Creed Original Santal

Thread Starter
With fall and winter around the corner, I exchanged my full bottle of Silver Mountain Water for Original Santal and haven't looked back. By the way, SMW is good, but not great. I grew tired of it and eventually found it uncreative. However, OS is simply amazing--best longevity of any Creed including Aventus. At first I thought it was too sweet, but for some reason I don't find it that sweet anymore. I absolutely love the juniper berry and lavender; kind of reminds me of Drakkar Noir but way better. I'm really looking forward to using it in the colder months.

What are you thoughts on OS?
Do yourself a favor and buy yourself a bottle of Mont Blanc Individuel. Cheaper and virtually identical... arguably better given the improved longevity.
I like OS - I guess I can start wearing it again soon!

I discovered SMW this summer - so I'm still a bit in love with it. But OS is like an old friend. Gotta break it out this month.

I'm not so keen on the lavender. What gets me is the fruity stuff - just perfectly balanced with the spicy notes.

I'll have to try Individuel. Thanks for that recommendation. I'm betting I'll like it. But no way will I ever toss my OS!

Both SMW and OS are among my Creed favorits. OS is very sweet in the opening, but calms down after a while to a very nice smooth masculine sandalwood. A compliment magnet!

OS is a very nice scent. I will be adding it to my collection this fall. All hail the house of Creed.
I may have to revisit OS. I couldn't get along with it when I first sprayed it on as it reminded me so much of Joop.
I have a large bottle of it and like it a lot.
I just recently bought a 4oz from Fragrancenet for $135 and feel it's one of the best scents in my collection as for longevity and uniqueness alone.

I just don't get the comparison to Joop! at all after a few seconds of the initial spray which was what I was most worried about since it was a blind buy.

A+ scent in my opinion.

Won't be re purchasing OS when I run out. Mont Blanc Individuel FTW!!
Love OS, I agree that Individuel is like 99% similar (in this case they really are unmistakable, this makes the Cool water and GIT comparison look like a joke). It's funny that OS came out after Individuel, so technically it copies the cheaper scent. I'll probably end up buying OS though in a few weeks if I stumble on a good deal. I think OS beats Individuel in potency and longevity battle

I've only sampled Original Santal once, and I really didn't like the opening - it seemed sickly and overpowering, and I had to go wash it off.

But it was on a very warm summer day - I guess I should try it again later in the year when it gets colder.

I dig the OS. I don't get any Drakkar Noir vibe, but I dig it none the less.
Have both, wear both, love both. OS and SMW belong in any well-rounded collection. Wear with impunity.
Sample first. I didn't and should've. Applies to both OS & SMW. Good night.
OS and SMW are both great, IMO. I like SMW especially in the summer months. OS more often in the fall and winter.

OS is way stronger and lasts longer than the Mont Blanc.
OS also shoots out double the juice if not more from a single spray...

True that! But you can wear 1 spray of OS, and be set for the day. The same can't be said for 2 sprays of Individuel.

I'm not bashing the Mont Blanc by any means, I'm just saying a bottle of OS goes a long way, and I do slightly prefer it. Individuel is a hell of fragrance though!

Original Santal is pretty amazing. Beast projection and Longevity. Makes X02 Aventus look like a sissy.
I haven't tried Original Santal, but I own Individuel. I like it but I don't reach for it.

Total opposite to me. I'm yet to find a batch of any creed that does more than 5 hours. 5 might even be generous.

I have the paper sample from yesterday. It smells better today, now that the sandlewood has emerged. It was the only one the SA was intent on pushing on me. I had to be a little asertive to score a bit of BdP.

i find it the other way around..

It's good but it reminds me to much of Joop to enjoy it even though I know it's better.
Original santal reminds me of dolce and gabbana ph at first sniff.
Odd that so many people get great longevity and scent from this. On my skin, it lasts two hours and then fades into the background to the point where you would have to be resting your nose on my neck to smell it. I was just very underwhelmed by the scent as well. Nothing really unique, just simple to me. Good thing I just got a 1.5 mL sample.

I love other Creeds too, so it's not a hate on Creed thing. I own Aventus and Windsor, and will eventually have GIT and/or MI.

Another vote for Individuel. I own that, but tried a sample of OS. I even tried them against each other. I'll say this: everything about OS is slightly better. It smells a little better. It projected a little better. It lasted a little longer. It feels like the ingredients are slightly better. Individuel feels like the store brand name you buy at the grocery store instead of the name brand.

That being said, if this scent was going to be my signature scent, I'd go with OS. Since it's only something I wear every once in awhile, Individuel works just fine.

Since I've gotten a 4 ouncer of this it's actually passed Aventus on my list of Creeds. It has great longevity and I find myself enjoying it more everytime I wear it.

Agreed. No DN vibe to me.

I am in my second OS bottle and fourth SWM, and I like SWM over OS anytime.
SWM easily among my top five while OS I am not sure it even makes my top 30.

I like OS a lot, don't get me wrong, but just doesn't make it to the top.

Funny, on me ANY Creed lasts at least 8 hrs, with some lasting over 12.

On the other hand, many people claim that Chrome and Eau d'Issey have a monster longevity while on me they don't last not even one hour.

Type of skin I guess.
I'm a big Creed fan, some (my girlfriend) would even call me obsessed as Creed is what got me involved in the finer world of fragrances and broke the shackles of mass produced synthetics.

However, with that said Mont Blanc Individuel is very very close to Original Santal. I've tested wearing both at the same time and the scent is nearly identical although I get a hint of more sweetness from Individuel. Santal lasts about 7 hours on my skin while Individuel is around 5, but as already mentioned that may have to do with the spray atomizer on Creed bottles. I love all things Creed even most of the subpar scents that have been produced, but Individuel is so close to Original Santal in my opinion that it makes no sense to pay almost 4 times the price.

Just my 2 scents,

^^^the funny thing is OS came after Individuel, so technically it copies it

Awesome. Did not know that.
Original santal is my winter staple. Opens with candied citrus and spicey juniper but dries down to a warm, sexy and smooth sandalwood vanilla cream. Just amazing !
I absolutely detest Joop but have owned and used OS - go figure.
I have and love both Joop and Original Santal, and cannot honestly say they smell near-identical. Alike? Quite, like Nasomatto Duro smells like M7 without one taking away from the other. However, there is no accounting for individual value and olfactory perceptions.
Think I might just revisit this one in store...

I also hate Joop! but like sandalwood as a note, but only when it's not too strong/harsh.
