Calling all Hermes experts..chime in..

I would like to be educated on two scents high on my list to try...Bel Ami and Equipage. Just down and dirty...are they sweet? Are the new versions worth trying? Opinions both good and bad. Do they go good with single malt?

Thanks

They are not sweet to my nose at all.

I'm not as familiar with Equipage, but Bel Ami (either version) would definitely go well with scotch. I much prefer the (drastically altered) new version as it does not rely on smoky birch tar like the old stuff.

They're somewhat sweet to my nose but not overly. Both great scents.

They might have some sweet aspects, but I definitely wouldn't call either a sweet fragrance. Equipage is the more "dated" of the two imo. I own vintage Bel Ami which I find quite superior to the modern formulation. Bel Ami & Equipage are both high class sophisticated fragrances that I think a man who likes to dress up and enjoy single malt whiskies would enjoy.

I don't think of either one as "sweet". If one came closer than the other it would be Equipage. Both are nice, but I find them both dated. Bel Ami is not as harsh as Knize 10, but it still reminds me of something from yesteryear - it is not a clean modern leather fragrance. Coincidentally, I wore both of these this week. Both are nice, and worthy of getting a decant / sample if you can - but I would certainly not recommend either for a blind purchase.

I only have the newer versions, so I can't speak to the vintage.

Neither is sweet. Bel Ami is a more refined leather and very distinctive. Hyper masculine, with a long lasting sillage. The "classic" or older version is far superior [the one in the umbrella shaped bottle] vs the new version in the square bottle. Equipage is also horsey or leathery but in a more social vein. Bel Ami is a fragrance that you can become known by. I own both and wear both.
