Bond No 9 Manhattan first impressions

So I received a sample of Manhattan in the mail yesterday and figured I'd wear it today and post my initial thoughts. This is a very sweet fragrance all throughout. I sprayed two sprays around noon then bombed myself with about six or so sprays around 7 PM when I was certain I was in for the night. For about the first hour or so I get honey and a generic sweet fruitiness that I guess is what Bond describes as "gourmand red plum" on their site. The fruitiness lasts for an hour or so on me, but the honey has stayed throughout. Also from first application I have this animalic funkiness that is just lingering underneath everything, which is somewhat off putting to my nose. About two hours or so in I start to get a spiciness and I definitely get the gingerbread which is fair to nice and somewhat reminiscent of Bois des Iles. I also get a non-descript woodiness in the base that I am continuing to get wafts of. This one is very long lasting in my opinion. The two sprays were still evident when I reapplied hours later in the evening. This one would likely last 10 hours or more on my skin. It is unisex leaning towards the femme side in my opinion, but so many of the Bonds are like this.

These are my initial thoughts from wearing Manhattan today. I own a number of fragrances from Bond, but I can't see myself purchasing this one as I can't get past the funk that just hangs in the background on this one.

Tomorrow I will try the Harrod's Oud Patchouli I received on skin. I sprayed a bit on paper earlier and it seemed more up my alley than Manhattan.

Thanks for the review on this one! I am curious to try it sometime and see if I find that lingering "funk". But based on that, I certainly won't be blind buying it!

Looking forward to your input on the Harrod's Oud Patchouli, since I haven't had a chance to try that one yet either...

Seems like Bond No 9 is loving the plum thing. I bought Andy Warhol last year and it's all plum. I'm already sick of it.

The plum in Manhattan is much sweeter than that in Andy Warhol plus AW Has that incensey vibe to it that I find very pleasing, however I have only worn the AW 2 or 3 times since I bought it

I don't own Andy, because I did find that a little obnoxious when I tried it. However, they also have plum as a note in their I Love New York For Marriage Equality, and I really love that one.

I too got the vial from a SA from which I bought my only Bond a few years back. Manhattan opens with a sweet (guess what) apple note that had me raise my brows for the stereotype. But then all the other fruits that pharma mentioned came out as well. This is a sweet thick fruity. Not something I like.

^^^ Same here. Wasn't bad, but to me it isn't something I would purchase. Now I await the new Musk scent that is supposedly set to release sometime next month.

I sampled New York Musk last week, and it was pretty solid. Need to give it a full wearing but early returns were positive.

Agreed! I've tried NY Musk out twice now and I'm quite impressed. I'm excited to get some samples and give it some more wearings to really get a feel for it.

Where do you get samples and do they have sprayers? I'm dying to try both of these (NY Musk and Manhattan).

AFIK, all the new Bond samples are spray samples. Last time I was in Saks, they had plenty of samples of Manhattan. In regards to Musk, the Bond SA wasn't allowed to bring it out, until Manhattan was officially released. Now that Manhattan has been released, I am sure they have Musk samples available, or at least a tester.

The Bond guy just got out their tester and sprayed away. The first time I tried it I don't think he was suppose to let me try it because Manhattan had just been announced the day before and I didn't even know that NY Musk was coming out soon. The second time Manhattan had been released but they didn't have official samples yet, and NY Musk still hadn't been announced. He was nice to let me try them out. He said he'd send me some samples of both when they are both available.

That's basically what happened for me as well. They didn't even have full bottle testers yet, just small decanted bottles of them, so I sprayed some on from those. The Bond rep I always talk to is always very helpful, and is going to mail me spray samples when they get some in.

If I love New York Oud , do you think I would like Bond Manhattan?
Interestingly, there was a Bond rep at Nordstrom today handing out samples of I Love NY for Him. I asked if they had Manhattan in and they'd just gotten it on Tuesday, but they didn't have any samples. Strange the rep would be there pushing I Love NY for Him instead of Manhattan. I don't get that at all.

Manhattan is surprisingly sweet. I was expecting it to be more masculine. I'm getting too much honey and not enough woods. I think the honey makes the plum too sweet for my tastes. Or perhaps too light? This one is a very rich scent, as Bonds tend to be, but it's not dark. I think I might enjoy this on a woman, but not so much on myself.

This, on me, smelled like an amped up version of Paco Rabanne Black XS - it replaces the strawberry note for the aforesaid plum not, but this is way too sweet.

But somehow, I still came away liking it. But not full bottle worthy.

Tried it again this past weekend and once again found it too sweet.

I have 4 Bonds and almost never wear them. I've basically given up on Bond.

That was my assessment also when I had a chance to try it - extremely sweet.

Yeah. Cut the sweetness in half, give it more of a masculine edge, and I'd probably love it. I might really enjoy this on a woman. But on me? After two hours, I had to wash it off. I certainly don't hate it. I don't even dislike it. But I didn't want to wear it, even for a day.

Received my generous spray sample via UPS from a drawing on cafleurebon.com today. This starts out uber sweet and leans feminine for a good hour or so. The plum note is fairly present, but I found myself liking it more after about the two hour mark when I got a more masculine vibe out of it with the immortelle and gingerbread notes. Didn't really detect any oud, but it might have been tucked away in the fruity top notes. Overall, I'd say it was ok - not sure I would have labeled it Manhattan.
