I just tried two sprays of TDC Oud for Love, one on each wrist. One spray was about two inches away and the other was about eight to ten inches away, much more diffused. The closer spray seems much stronger up close and there are certain notes that are really popping out (maybe the saffron?). It's kind of fruity but sour, kind of like cough syrup. It could be the whiskey...
The wrist that I sprayed from farther away is much more balanced and no one element seems to overpower another. It is very warm while at the same time sweet and spicy. It comes across as much more balanced and the scent covers a lot more of my forearm because the sprayer was so far away.
What distance do you spray an atomizer from? Does it depend on the fragrance? Do you spray farther away for heavier fragrances or it is it always better to spray from farther away so that the oils/chemicals can atomize and diffuse more before the molecules attach to your arm, and therefore mix better?
Even more technically, do fragrances smell more balanced when they are broken down into finer and finer droplets? It looks like "Aldehydes" are listed as a top note for Oud for Love. Does this have something to do with how it smells more pleasant after coming in contact with more oxygen? Do some notes not develop when they aren't atomized because they don't interact with oxygen or for not long enough?
Either way, what's your experience with distance and atomizers? Technically or not technically at all.
And finally, some delicious food for thought....Is it ideal to have a sprayer that sprays a super fine mist so you don't have to be so far away and you can "catch" more molecules on your skin closer?
