A couple months ago, the forums began doing the following: when the last post on a thread was by me, then I post again (NOT editing the existing post), my new post gets appended to the previous post with "Updated" in light gray separating the two (or more) posts. I have two problems with this:
Example: http://www.basenotes.net/threads/289...sions%29/page7
I posted the reviews several weeks after the beginning of the post. Several participants of the thread have expressed an interest to know my detailed thoughts about these products. Because the thread does not get bumped up to the top of the forum and they get no email notification, they have no idea I have been offering these mini reviews up.
Proposed solution: Place a timeout on this functionality so it only fires when the time between the last post and the new is less than x. (30 minutes perhaps.)
- Most importantly, the thread does not go to the top of the forum, so people have no idea I have added another post. This, even if weeks have passed since I last posted on the thread, and I am giving an important update.
- Separating consecutive posts can be a useful practice, especially if the posts are thematically unrelated. (This is less of a big deal and more a personal preference.)
