Funny thing about La Nuit De L'Homme is if you look at its reviews on Fragrantica, it is probably the highest rated fragrance with such an enormous amount of reviews (over 1500 people have rated it). So it's tremendously successful. Personally, I never cared for it, and I'm wondering if I should revisit it given all the great ratings.

Tea for Two, not really my thing
Tuscan Leather
I agree with YSL La Nuit De L'Homme. I bought a bottle based on the hype and hated it. It just smells so synthetic to me. Never buying a fragrance based on hype ever again.

+1 on The Dream. Nothing unique about it; opening is terrible, dry down is only decent.
Creed Millesime Imperial - I'm afraid I just really don't get it...at all
post #127 of 216
GIT. But then again, so is Cool Water.
By far and away Knize ten.
Puredistance M. Ok it is good. But not THAT good.
-The Dreamer (current version) +1
- Egoiste +1
Diamondflame, you are absolutely right. I just happened to get a sniff at Puredistance M today, in NYC. It is good, but nothing that I would go out of my way to purchase and let alone, pay an enormous amount for. It is truly overrated big time.
one million. aqua di gio. bought these sorta before my "basenote days". but to the person that said pure malt, i just bought it haha. and i love the dreamer. another mans trash...
Pour Monsieur and Antaeus are both grossly overrated on here. They smell dated and just plain bad to me.

Wow. There's nothing overrated about AdG. It isn't the sort of bold and exciting scent that will thrill the experienced noses of basenotes, but it is among the highest regarded scents for men among women in the real world. I will gladly tip my hat to any perfumer who can accomplish that.

I've been having that thought too.

I can't really add anything that I think is overrated, because really, that'd just be me saying I don't like it. I don't like Egoiste, but that doesn't mean it's overrated. It just means I don't enjoy it.

DHI. One spray of that will ruin your day. Ghastly frag, truly ghastly.
Aventus, was so glad to obtain 10ml decant. Now I am just puzzled. Yet I love BdP.

Knize Ten, Yatagan and Musc Ravageur
I agree with your thoughts on Aqua di Gio, and would add Bois du Portugal, Millesime Imperial and Mugler's Cologne.

Addidas Victory League has more presence than any of them.

Renato

To be honest, a lot of expensive niche fragrances. It's simple human psychology. People save up and splash a huge sum on an expensive bottle and then try to hype it as much as possible to garner more interest to justify the amount they spent (hoping also that more and more people want to get that fragrance but can't owing to availability and/or price).

Very well said. ADG is severely looked down upon on this board, but is adored in the real world.

Yes, I find ADG kind of watery - like someone splashed water on me.

I'm far more fond of Halston Unbound - it's like someone splashed flavoured water on me.

Renato

Acqua di Parma Colonia. Yes, the rose is rather nice, but...ugh, that musk in the base! It is not a classic composition so much as the silhouette of one.
Black Afgano
La Nuit
Musc Ravageur

Sorry but I still love Aventus.

My main problem with it is that it is boring compared to others of a similar idea. The fact that it sells so much, gets so much praise, ect while I don't particularly care for it is the definition of overrated.
Dior Homme Sport and Chanel's Allure Homme Sport.
Aventus +1

I can completely agree.

I could live in that skanky amber cacoon that ambre sultan envelopes me in. I think serge lutens and sheldrake are amazing. Best perfume line that I have encountered in my short niche history. Like everyone else.....aventus, but I also don't think l artisan is all that. I've sampled nearly their whole line and haven't been interested in anything.....maybe patchouli patch. Everything duchefour make he puts cinnamon in or at least that's what it smells like to me. I just don't get the l'artisan hype.

Eau des Beaux
Le Male
Most Bonds
Most Creeds
Pure Havane
Musc Ravageur

But I love Egoiste!
Frank No.2

Bang by Marc Jacobs. Remains a favourite despite my general shift towards niche fragrances.
For me, Acqua di Parma's Essenza Colonia doesn't get the hype it deserves.

I agree. Definitely the one in the main AdP line that seems to get little love, but I place it right up there with the best the line has.
Guerlain Bois D'Armenie

where are the loves for this????
