I'm bored. Seems like Chanel Bleu is one of the most polarized scents on the board. It's in a lot of polls, but never just a straight up one like this (as far as I can find).

Let's put this battle to rest once and for all!! (*haha*)

Thumbs up for me.

Bleu is a mediocre, classless, Chanel unworthy, 16 in a dozen disappointment!
I wanted to like it, but I didn't...at all. Not saying it's a bad frag just definitely not for me.
I like Chanel Bleu. I don't love it, but I like it. It's more expensive than most designer aquatics, but truthfully, it IS classier than most aquatics. The longevity suffers and the drydown is relatively weak, so that weighs it down.

It depends if you like pink pepper in your aquatics or not as well.
It isnt a bad fragrance. It is just nothing special. And since there are so many special fragrances out there, I guess Ill give it a thumbs down, since neutral was not an option.

+1

That's pretty much how I feel about it. I'd probably buy it if I could get a 50ml for 40 bucks or less.
Up. I wouln't buy it though.
My co-worker wears it to work every day, and it's on the unpleasantly synthetic side for my nose.

Bleu isn't aquatic. It's a woody aromatic. What's the deal with people thinking that just because it uses the word blue (bleu, actually) that it's aquatic? I don't get it.

Anyway... thumbs down for me - but that's just my own opinion. I can't stand the stuff. I think it's the combination of pink pepper and ginger that totally yucks me out. For me, Bleu is a scrubber. But the truth of the matter is that Chanel has a hit on their hands.
If it didn't come from the House of Chanel, it would be one of those fragrances lost in mediocrity.
It quite remarkable really, when it first came out, it was absolutely hated hated within our community. People are coming round to it now
post #16 of 93
Far more a "yay", while not outstanding as other Chanel scents, still, consistent, albeit maybe unspectacular, quality and contemporary, trendy sense of style, without being too generic though.
Very nice scent but not worth for my money.
Yay. It's creamy, smooth, and unique. It's suitable for any occasion and has great projection and longevity.
Thumbs up. Smells excellent. So what if it's a Chanel that isn't unique? With that said, I'll buy a bottle if the price drops...a lot.
It's a very well made riff on a familiar theme for guys who generally do not go out of their way to wade thru batch number threads on perfume forums and it's in all the Duty Free Magazines on the right airlines and selling like hotcakes - a runaway success.
I give it a thumbs up. I waffle on this one quite a bit. There are times I wear it because I like it, there are also times I wear it mainly because I know I'll get complimented.
Thumbs up!
I like its bottle, but the juice inside did not impress at all.
Thumbs up for me. It gets slammed because it errs on the side of caution, which means massive mainstream success, but not so much for fragrance veterans hoping for something different. I think it smells great nonetheless.
It's ok but I don't have strong feelings either way about it.
Thumbs up. I have no need to smell challenging as hell all the time. Bleu is a damn pleasant woody and vaguely sweet fragrance that is extremely polite even though it lasts for a very long time. It's safe - and for some, safe means boring, and boring is more or less like killing yourself, apparently.

For me - I really like it. If I want other people to really like what I'm wearing without being complicated or repulsive, I go for Bleu. I really like it myself as well. Uncomplicated, smooth, refined and good.
Poor quality, over priced and under developed. A scent for people with no opinion or nouse. I find it a very cynical release.

Wow, before I went to bed, the vote was tied: 7 - 7. Few hours later THUMBS UP option is dominating.

Thumbs up!
Bleu smells pleasant but it bores me to tears!
Thumbs Up!

There are hundreds of more boring scents around and they don't take so much beating here as Bleu. Its magic works, look at the sales!
Well, first time I've tried it I was pretty much unimpressed. Later on I changed my opinion and is on my wish list
post #33 of 93
Thumbs down from me. I bought it because its basenotes smelled good on my clothes. Unfortunately it is so synthetic and screechy on my skin that it makes me sneeze a lot. For a fresh safe scent I strongly prefer Acqua Di Gio.
I tried it at Nordstrom's. It smelled awful on me. Couldn't wait to scrub it off, frankly. Thumbs down.

Agreed. When I went to bed, Thumbs down was actually ahead. Funny what happens in the dark of the night
post #36 of 93
I'd recommend it to a person who wants a high quality, versatile fragrance. However, with a wardrobe like mine, I don't want an every day fragrance, so it's nay for me.
It took me some time 'to get' Bleu, but, now that I do; I dig it.
It's not at all as boring as it first seems like. Give it a fair chance.
It's like Secretions Magnifique, people know it's disgusting, because of
its rep, so that's what they smell. I had a sample once, the people who
didn't know its rep, didn't think it was bad at all.
Same with Bleu; people expect something boring, so, they smell it as
boring!

its a go from me... it is nothing spectacular but its solid.... has decent longevity.
wore it one morning at work...got them Ladies on!
Bleu is nothing mind-blowing or that spectacular but hey, it smells very pleasant to every one's nose and has a good longevity and projection so I personally can't complain. There are better scents out there but there are also quite a bit of those scents that are worse than bleu so imo bleu is way better than average. And yes, I own a bottle of BdC so thumbs up!

Come on, that's unnecessary.

You should host a Bleu split. You'd probably do very well.

Personally, I love the stuff. Hated it when I smelled it in the department store but ended up with a bottle somehow and now I'm onto my second. It's the only bottle I've finished and one of a few fragrances that really works for me anytime anywhere (TdH, Invasion Barbare, and Guerlain Homme L'Eau being the others). My girlfriend despises its trail when I spray it in the morning, and I've been relegated to putting it on in the basement or outside. I find it much deeper and more interesting than its commonly perceived and actually a fragrance that changes character depending on the day and develops dynamically throughout its life. I also prefer it to the Allure line, the Egoiste line, and both Pour Monsieurs (though I miss Concentree). I hold it in equal esteem to Sycomore. Long live Bleu.

On a sort of related note....I've been interested in frags for about 2 or 3 years now. You guys who have been around for a long time, let me ask you a question:

Have there been any male designer fragrances that have been released in the past, generally panned by basenotes and other 'aficionado' communities, only to be celebrated years later? I'm just wondering ,and not implying that this will happen with Bleu (though it may, who knows?)

Occasionally this happens in music and often with art, I imagine it must happen with cologne as well.

Great question. I'm thinking....

Aventus was getting pretty mixed reviews here at first, but when people started reporting lots of compliments, and everybody recognized the somewhat greater-than-average olfactory fatigue, opinions seemed to shift toward the positive.

I think Quiksilver was somewhat ignored at first, but there were a few good reports later on, and people started noticing.

Le Feu d'Issey is definitely one that flopped with the public, only to be recognized later as being remarkable, around the time it was discontinued. Not sure what the early opinions were here.

+1. I wonder if Bleu is Chanel's take on Terre d'Hermes? Both have a big grapefruit opening and plenty of pepper. Unfortunately for me they are both iso e super flame throwers (i.e. headaches in a bottle).
The number one proof/rule for me that a scent is good : when you sample it , buy it , finish the bottle , then after one week, your nose asks for it because it misses it = buy it again .

I'm not saying this stuff is a masterpiece , but it does not smell like anything else on the market .

Thumbs up
.
Thumbs down only because as a fan, I expected a lot more from Chanel. Juice-wise, it's a neutral for me.

What is being put to rest? It's not horrible smelling, especially to the "average" person, who most likely thinks it smells "nice." I think you need to be more specific. Is it uninspiring in light of it being marketed by Chanel? I wonder what the results of that poll would be! LOL.
I love it and the people around me love it.
In my experience it's universally loved among women. Personally I remember being impressed but not over the moon with it upon trying it for the first time. I think it would be an ideal choice for the average joe who just want's one good fragrance due to it's versatility.

Right, and also remember that some frags are being pushed heavily at the major dept. stores, whereas "under the radar frags" that might be similar but better collect dust in discounter warehouses and bargain bins.

I agree with that. It's essentially a cash cow... Nothing wrong with that, I guess, just really uninteresting.

I think that's pretty much how I feel about it. My wife loves it...I like it a lot, but don't love it. I like it because it can pretty much be whatever I need it to be. It's on my Buy list, but only in the middle of the list.
One of the most versatile fragrance around. True enough its average to most BNers but its good for everone else!
Not many thumbs down then!
It just about gets the nod from me too.
The only Chanel I really don't like is Allure Homme Sport
post #57 of 93
smells good, thumbs up
Bland de Chanel
nice bottle and the fragrance is not too offensive. But . . . other than that it's kind of bleu.
It's interesting that you mention this. I was at Macy's a long time ago and was actually specifically looking for this scent, hoping I would love it, buy it, and live in bliss forever with puppy dogs and bacon everywhere.

Unfortunately for me, when the sales associate sprayed it on the card, I didn't find anything special about it. I said so, and she offered me a bunch of other scents. I ended up getting 1 million.

I guess it's a thumbs down for me. I have nothing against the scent or anyone that wears it...I just wasn't drawn to it.
