Montale Oud Cuir de Arabie / Compared to Dior Leather Oud

I just received my sample today of CDA and I am rather impressed. It doesn't seem to have as much projection as LO but it is still too early to tell. It still projects fairly decently though. Longevity seems just average to me from my first sampling. Can anyone add to this ?

I do smell some LO in here yet they are two different scents. CDR being less sweet and more "raw" if that makes sense. LO is "polished" very well.

Would you get both if you were offered 2 free bottles of juice or would you get 2 of CDA or 2 bottles of LO or 1 of each ?

I agree that LO is more polished; it is also a little more woody and smoky to my nose. As hedonist described, it smells like burning oud chips. The Montale is an oud in the mold of the other ouds in the brand, but with leather and animalics. They are both powerhouses and have both great sillage and longevity on me.

If offered, I'd go for one and one. Indeed, I own the Montale already and have a big sample of LO, thanks to a kind BNer, which will likely be upgraded to FB. If I were forced to choose between the two, it'd be a hard decision.

Absolutely. I have bottles of each and they are both great IMO.

I love and own both. For me projection is fairly close but Dior comes out on top, but both last 12+ hrs on me. LO also seems a bit more animalistic and smokey in respect to the Oud with honey added to smooth things out while CDA has a more medicinal mellow Oud with Tobacco smoothing things out. With either all you really need is about 50ml to last for long time because you only need to spray once or twice. GET BOTH!!!!!!!!!!!

One of each. I like them both.

For $40 extra I can get 50ml more but I understand what you mean. Can you tell me if the 100ml will fit into a quart size ziplock back for air travel ? Is it a spray ?

After having CDA on for a few hours last night here are my thoughts (keep in mind that I've owned LO for 2 months now) :

CDA is definitely as nice as LO and shares many similarities as LO. Yet both are different enough to own. I love the fact that CDA has tobacco in it. Most tobacco fragrances I've smelled lately just don't do it for me. They smell nice but are too simple or too smokey/harsh.

I totally agree with LO coming out on top as far as projection is concerned but the honey can get cloying at times. That is what projects most on me with the oud noticeable but in the backround.

Sometimes I need to change fragrances because of it.

I was thinking use CDA if by chance Dior didn't have small bottles of LO available. However maybe I would be missing out.

The honey note in LO can get annoying after a few days. CDA may be a good substitute.

Please let me know if the bottle fits in a quart size bag and is a spray.

Thanks

Are you sure the Dior comes in 100ml? I almost had the impression it came in 125ml spray, which would be forbidden on a plane. But I need to check.

I was referring to Montale 100ml. The fact that LO is 125ml is a real nuisance for me since I like to bring my fragrances with me in my carry on bag.

I don't trust the TSA since they stole a carton of cigarettes from me.

If offered two free bottles I would get one of each. I believe my bottle of Leather Oud is 125 ML.

The Montale, made of thin aluminum, is compact. It certaily fits a rectangular quart size bag (like the ones you find at drugstores or the like). I'm pretty sure it fits a square ziploc as well - but I'll doublecheck.

I also need to doublecheck, but I think that the cap on a Montale comes off, which makes it easy to decant. The Dior cap doesn't come off.

I love and own both but I find the Montale more "classic" in its reproduction of the rose-oud accord. The animalic leather adds a challenging vibe wich is quite stunning but unfortinately it brutally recedes during the drydown which is basically all about dry oud and rose. LO is sweeter, definitely smokier but overall less challenging.

Well put. I find that LO is far more superior during the drydown phase.

Leather Oud is definitely sweeter, I found the Montale to be very dry feeling. I sold the Montale though, I just really couldn't wear it. While LO has skank to it, Cuir de Arabie was just kind of too far for me.

Really? I find LO to be much more skanky than Cuir d'Arabie.

I really like both of them.

I was debating how I was phasing it and I think you're right, LO is skanky, Cuir d'Arabie is just dirty.

I am completely obsessed with leather scents and OCd'A is one of my absolute favorites of all time. I struggle with LO. I find it much skankier and much more heavily weighted on the oud wood side rather than the leather side.

These are all great responses. Thank You very much.

I might purchase Caron Tabac Blond instead. I am really digging the sample.
