Found something that smells similar to Aventus !

Yes I know what you're thinking, another bloody Aventus thread.

Call me crazy, but I think I've finally found something that smells like Aventus. Believe it or not it is Paco Rabanne's "Black XS"

I've had Aventus for a few weeks now (The A4...... Batch) and I never even thought that the two smelled alike until today I was randomly going through my collection and smelt Black XS. I paused for a while and thought WHAT THE F*** THIS SMELLS LIKE AVENTUS.

I think the fruity punch and darkness in Black XS seems to resemble Aventus. Maybe my batch is different to most.

Anyone who has them both, smell them side by side and let me know what you think.

Huh, definitely never heard that comparison before. I've never smelled Black XS, however, so I'm afraid I can't compare/contrast. I'm interested to see what others think, though.

I own and love both of these (Aventus and Black XS), but don't really find them similar.

Hey, why not....I just said in another thread that I thought Exceptional For Men smelled similar to Silver Mountain Water....so, see, it could be much, much worse...

I own both - they are NOTHING alike... Actually Black XS L'Excess is closer, since it has a pineapple note instead of the strawberry top note. But still as similar as AdG is to Avignon.

The new Black XS L'excess could very well fit better in your comparison, as they replaced the strawberry note with pineapple .

You should try it out .

Black XS smells like strawberries. Nothing smells like Aventus. Even different batches of Aventus itself don't smell like Aventus!

for me black XS sucks I hope the almighty aventus that everyone talks about it's not like Black XS

only my sister loves Black XS so I gave away mine to her so she could give it to his boyfriend

I see the connection. Both have in your face fruit accords and contain patchouli. Can't really say they smell similar.

I have to say that I thought I found something that smelt similar to it recently, though it's not another fragrance as such. I've been meaning to post it and it seems this thread beat me to it!

It's the Revitalise Me hand lotion by skin care company Elemis.

Apparently, this contains "aromatic oils of thyme, sweet orange, lime and neroli" which is interesting as someone at home told me that Aventus smelled of thyme after I showed off the very first sample of Aventus that I got back in 2010...

Anyone else agree with this hand lotion?

I don't see the connection. However, you may wanna try Jaguar Vision, as the pineapple notes are near identical imo. But where Aventus turns into this amazing smokey, woodsy fragrance; Vision has this common and cheap overly sweet tonka bean dry down.

yeah, i think so.. the TS is talking about L'Excess.. somehow resembles the opening coz of the pineapple note but not really quite similar..

They are so different as Strawberry & Pineapple.

By the way, L'Excess replaces strawberry with pineapple, the top notes has dominant pineapple note, but I still can not see the connection between the two.

I have to say there is n't any similarity to me. Black XS was one of those rare frags that were so sickly to me that I went and washed it off after an hour or so. I just remember a cheap overpowering strawberry note.
I thought the original XS was ok though.

The new XS opens with a pineapple smell so that''s comparable to Aventus, but Aventus is darker actually, with the smokiness too

I have Black Xs and L'Exces and they don't smell like the X02 batch i've had, BUT, this cheap perfume called Zara-Gold smells at the beginning just like X02, i swear!!!

Himalaya is a copy of XS. He's comparing Black XS to Aventus. It's much different than XS.

That's the closest I've found so far and it's not even close at all. Both have a pineapple note and that's where the similarity ends. Vision smells like dried sugared pineapple chunks. Lapidus PH has a distinct pineapple note as well, but it's not the same as Aventus.

hey IncOgnito, you know what!? I actually think Aventus has some stuff in common with Black XS. I wouldn't say they smell like each other, but they definitely share some of the same DNA.

The vibe is similar too - they're pretty musky and fruity, modern orientals.

While we're on the subject, I also wanna mention that the drydown/basenotes of Aventus smell a lot like Straight to Heaven by Kilian in its own drydown/basenotes. They share the same patchouli-vanilla-musk thing. (Straight to Heaven smells nothing like Black XS though).

Me and you might get bashed for it, but if you pay enough attention, the similarities are there.

That being said, so far, nothing out there smells enough like Aventus to replace it.

P.S. I own both Black XS and Aventus (2012 batch)

Not even close. Black XS is all strawberry syrup with a hint of weird fecal note to me. Totally unlike Aventus XD
