Having read so much praise for Sycomore I too was keen to try it. I have ordered a small decant from the perfumed court.

It seems Les Exclusifs are only sold in a few select stores in each country, the chanel site should say which stores in Canada sell it.

Thx man. I wish people would do splits of it.

I'm actually in the US now, but I appreciate the info

You can get it direct from their website: http://www.chanel.com/

Not sure where you would go to sample it though.

Ah - you say you are in the US now... You can purchase samples from: http://theperfumedcourt.com/

I've only tested the following six, which I'll list in order of preference:

1. Sycomore (gotta get a bottle)
2. Givenchy (really nice, well balanced and dynamic)
3. Encre Noir (my first vetiver, love its dirtiness)
4. Vetiver Tonka (interesting, likeable...I'd get sick of it quickly)
5. Guerlain (meh)
6. Tom Ford (found it stuffy, boring, old...an unhealthy gray)

Vetiver's I'd love to try:

1. Villoresi's
2. Vetiver Extraordinaire
3. Route du Vetiver
4. LesNez
5. Adolfo Dominguez Vetiver Hombre

I agree. Original Vetiver by Creed is fresh and light IMO.

Eau Sauvage has a nice stinky vetiver in the base. It emerges soon after the famous citrus starts burning off, and you dont have to wait very long. In fact, Ive long thought of it as primarily a vetiver fragrance...

The latest formula of Guerlain's Vetiver is my favorite (Habit Rouge bottle, yellow juice). The formula in the heavy glass deco bottle with green juice has a moth ball note that makes it stink for 20 minutes. I own TF Grey Vetiver and love it - and I was in Vegas at the Doir boutique and sniffed their version...which smells identical to Grey Vetiver. I also enjoy Prada's Infusion de Vetiver...different, but still a favorite nonetheless.

Wow - what an amazing amount of votes and responses! Thank you everybody - this has been really exciting to follow. However, there hasn't been much excitement in the top positions: Sycomore clearly runs faster than all its competitors, Guerlain Vétiver stays safely in second position and Vétiver Extraordinaire makes it to 3rd place with Encre Noire and Grey Vetiver behind it.

I very much appreciate all the good and well-informed responses (and cool pictures!) and I do realize that significant and popular vetiver frags (like Original Vetiver, Sel de Vétiver, etc.) were not included. What can you do? With the "Others" option taking up a slot for itself, there's only room for 19 contestants so there's really no way to make room for all the vetivers out there. I tried to do my best, and with (at the moment) less than 12% of all votes falling into the "Others" category, all the many scents making up that category would still only make it to a split 5th position as it stands now - combined. But knowing what I know now, I realize I should definitely have put at least the Creed and the Different Company in there and left out Chaman's Party and Fumidus who both have yet to score a single vote.

Once again, thanks everybody - and do feel free to go on voting. The poll stays open!

I have tried Guerlain Vetiver, Tom Ford's Grey Vetiver, Chanel Sycomore and Noble Vetiver Chopard but IMO Encre Niore is more natural (raw), complex, robust and has better longevity out of the whole bunch. It smells damn sexy too.

Vetivere extreme by Guerlain!!!

ONLY 6 people voted for Mona di Orio??? Her Vetyver is like nothing else I have ever smelled...NOT raw vetiver, but polished and smooth...be patriotic-VOTE! for MdO!!

I've heard about the Chanel Sycomore, on a different thread it was mentioned that it shared some similarity to the Original Vetiver. I love the OV, but the price on the chanel is looking pretty good right now. I might have to go in and sample it.

Guerlain Vetiver Extreme is my good old standby. Have to go easy on the trigger though or you will knock yourself out!

No apologies needed - and thanks for participating!

I haven't tried everything on your list, but my favorite right now is a tie between Vetiver 46 and Vetiver Extraordinaire.

I guess my favorite is Vetiver Extraordinaire though. Dominique Ropion somehow managed to get rid of all the earthy muddyness of vetiver and only allow the green, radiant, musky and woody sides of it show. It really is a class act of a fragrance. Super smooth and never overpowering or perfumey.

Vetiver Tonka and Sel de Vetiver.
