Questions about Chergui (and Serge Lutens)

Hey folks.

I am thinking about BLIND buying Chergui (or Alien Essence Absolue) as a present for my girlfriends birthday but I have some questions first:

1. Does Chergui has its kinda old school feeling like Shalimar or Chanel Coco or it is more modern?

2. It is very thick and heavy (lets say Opium PH or Egoiste) ?

3. Is there anything on my "tried" list that smells close to Chergui?

4. It is too "nichey" or could it be easy sold as a designer?

5. If not Chergui, what other Serge Lutens do you recommend as blind buy for her (She has and loves Alien, Addict, Euphoria, Gucci Rush, Ange Ou Demon Le Secret, also loves Black Orchid so she is gourmands positive and loves vanilla based fragrances and fruity florals)

Okay, female here. LOL

Going by her tastes I would go with the Alien Absolute.

Chergui is not gourmand, yes sweet, hay like. I will say its a classic but a modern one for sure.

If you want to buy a SL for her then A La Nuit which is jasmine based will be more to her taste.

Thank you so much for comment donna255. We both liked Alien Absolute (I may prefer it over regular Alien which is in my top5 bes scents on females) but I was also playing with idea about getting her something more exclusive (because 60ml of Alien Absolue has same price as 50ml of Chergui or 50ml of Black Orchid). I will do some research on La Nuit . Thank you.

Neither old world nor modern. It's Serge Luten. Lutenesque.

2. It is very thick and heavy (lets say Opium PH or Egoiste) ?
Relatively compared to designer.

Not too nichey. I'd say very nichey.

I agree. Alien Absolute IMHO is the best Alien produced.

You know she likes it, so why take a chance that she may not like Chergui.

do not blind buy this there are safer frags out there

If I may suggest something. Have you tried Ambre 114 (2001) by Histoire de Parfums?
Absolutely amazing unisex fragrance and I think it is safer blind buy than Chergui and a better fragarnce

Yeah I wouldn't consider Chergui to be a safe unisex blind buy...I get a nice cigar vibe from it myself...maybe not what you want your partner smelling like bit hey everyone gets a bit of different vibe from the stuff. I woul say go with Alien but Limaaas suggestion for Ambre 114 is also a good one.

Heh, ok guys and gals. It seems that blind buy of Chergui is not smartest thing I could do. I will probably get her Alien Essence for now and try to get my hand on SL samples. Thanks everyone. Also thanks Limaa for Ambre 114 suggestion. I will put it on my sample list.

It looks like you're not going to blind buy Chergui for the girlfriend. I absolutely agree with that decision. Don't do it.
I'd just go with Chergui.

Jeux de Peau is worth a sniff. Don't blind buy if you can avoid it.
