Own both and love both but prefer the latter.

I like Idole the best as I find 1697 a bit overwhelming with the amount of different notes that are coming at you all at once. Though 1697 is nice I much prefer the boozy saffron accord of idole to the slightly buttery boozy vanille accord of 1697.

Idole is my choice without question. 1697 is too busy and it smells a bit off.

Frapin 1697 cause it's like a richer Idole.

im a big fan of idole and saw this thread so I spring for a sample of 1697 which just showed up. it's ok i guess but really not that impressive, definitely not idole caliber. i believe this is the edp version of 1697, how different is it from the original/absolu version? Is the absolu version super rare and expensive?

ugh i actually want to scrub this stuff. something about it is offputting. it's not cloying exactly but something about the composition seems off kilter. starshipvelcro said 'something smells a bit off' and i think that's a perfect summation. do people think this smells like idole or was it just the rum note comparison?
