Have you already found it?

Finding the perfect fragrance is like finding the perfect woman. Some people are luckier than others, some will find it early on, and some later on in life. Maybe some will never find it but let us be optimistic.

I'm eager to finding that perfect WOW smelling fragrance that I will stick with it for the rest of my life. I have a gut feeling that it's out there and one day I will find it.

Have you already found it?

If you don't believe in monogamy then maybe this thread is not for you lol

Took me many years and it was right under my nose.

Terre d'Hermes Pure Parfum is what I am gonna use all my life.
Everytime I find it, I get bored and then look for the next one.
dior homme ill snort the stuff if i could
post #7 of 84
Don't think I could ever be content with the "one".
Perfect? Definitely not. But Hugo Boss is the one fragrance I can wear any time I am stumped.
Some people think they find "it", but nobody ever finds "it"...
not perfect but close. This probably sounds Cheesy but I absolutely adore Givenchy Play Intense, it just describes me in every way and..yeah. lol.
My fragrance harem numbers 150 or so. We all have our appetites. hehe.
'The One' only exists in The Matrix.
I have only found two that are close to holy grail status and one that is close to perfect.
If you are a collector of frags, you will never find. There will always be affairs....Smile
post #14 of 84
Well, after a lot of searching, I found the "one." But now it's not as interesting as it used to be. I mean, every time I wear it, I'm still wowed, but the degree of passion with it has diminished. I think that's just human nature, and applies to everything, significant others included.

Doesn't mean it's not still "the one" though. It's still my favorite and I could live with it the rest of my life.

Interesting analogy to women (or significant others), Freschi.
I haven't found that "one" fragrance that I'd be completely fine with claiming my "one and only". I enjoy the variety far too much, so I doubt I ever will....

I haven't found it but I will say Dior Homme is like that girl you can't leave alone.
Ironically was one of the first things I sampled, and 2 years later and many dollars after, it still is the perfect scent for me: Dior Homme Intense

This! But I can`t guarantee 100% it will last for the rest of my life. Fahrenheit has everything I`m looking for in a perfect fragrance.
the one for me is burberry touch. it could change if i find something else to knock my socks off.
I used to think Egoiste was the one. Now I think it's Dior Homme, with Midnight in Paris closely behind (and in the future MIP might become the one with DH taking runner up).
I would say Aventus is my go-to
When it comes to fragrance, I definitely don't believe in monogamy. With that said, the closest thing to what you call "that perfect WOW smelling fragrance" is, to me, Knize Ten.
Black Orchid is the closest I've come - followed very closely by Douce Amere. I haven't smelt nearly enough yet to be sure though...
I have classics that will be staples in my wardrobe, But I think I like to pick on my mood to much to stick to just one.

Yep, me too! It can get a bit frustrating at times. I still like all of my previous loves - but just as friends......
I could wear Portrait of a Lady every day of the week and be quite satisfied... That said, I am glad I don't have to and can use the many other fragrances I love in my collection.
I haven't found a perfect fragrance, but I definitely have a couple that I will never be without.
Aventus/Dior Homme Intense/Midnight in Paris/Tobacco Vanille
post #29 of 84
M by Puredistance is a once-in-a-lifetime scent, which certainly would be in the running.

agree. same with food, music and so forth, variety is the true spice of life. this is my hobby, the more the merrier
post #31 of 84
ONE? Never I have a few I can't see myself living without.
Just when I think I have found IT I grow weary of it and move on. There are a few ITs that I come back to though and that I assume I will never be without. It still doesn't cure the hunger to keep searching.

I guess that is when you know you have found IT. My assumption is that it would completely kill any desire to keep looking for the next one.
i agree with the above. i used to fall for a fragrance and instantly spring for a bottle only to tire of the scent within a few months. these days i buy 10ml decants of scents i love and only if i use the entire thing and still feel the same love for the scent do i spring for fb. needless to say, my fb bottle purchases have come to a standstill while my collection of decants has grown drastically. for me its much better this way. the more fragrances you own, the less ml of each you need. but im not a collector, im just a fragrance lover. being one doesn't necessarily mean you're the other, and vice versa.
I think I may have found the perfect 200, but that won't stop me from sampling new ones that I think I might enjoy.
Nothing is as perfect to me as Habit Rouge by Guerlain, which I stumbled upon quite early on in my fragrance searching.
Hard to find one "it" for all ocassions, seasons, moods, settings etc. But several that serve their own function well while good enough to fill another. None perfect but some damned close.

Puredistance M
Spicebomb
Jublilation XXV
Yosh Negra Sombre
If I could have only two scents the rest of my life, they'd be Dior Homme Intense and Creed Aventus. That is the holy grail for me

I'm curious, Jack Hunter and L'Aventurier, which fragrances are these?

Thanks everyone for your feedback. From what I read, maybe "The One" does not exist for the majority of us. I guess it's true, human nature, we're curious creatures and we always like to try different things. But also some may argue and keep true to their principles of One fragrance policy (maybe woman as well) like Dailey and his fahrenheit or eggy and his Aventus. For example, my dad uses only Kouros since the day it came out in 1981 and still happily married to the one woman he loves since his early 20s.

Jack, whats the difference between holy grail status and perfect. Does perfect somehow trump holy grail status ?. To me I always thought holy grail = perfect
post #43 of 84
If I would have found it, I would not be on these forums

NO questions about it...I'm in a lifetime relationship with Molecule 01.

Fortunately for me, I can layer it with anything and it only gets better!

My mistress is Kenzo Air. --- I cannot live without either.

It's no surprise that you love Kenzo Air - it has one of the highest concentrations of Iso E Super on the market! It's a great scent and so hard to find these days

My Holy Grail is Angeliques sous la pluie. People complain about its longevity, but one spray to each side of the neck lasts 12 hours easily as an under the radar fragrance. I've gotten tons of compliments on it (hours into a wearing), even though it's not very popular on Basenotes.

(It smells like a sexy gin and tonic)
The two closest will be the top two now. L'edu d'Hiver is so comforting and Noir de Noir is simply sexual. One is like a wife while the other is a mistress
post #47 of 84
Well I thought that I had found "it"; but then it was reformulated!
My latest "it" is Eau des Baux by L'Occitane.
Armani Eau pour Homme - probably the only or, at best, one of the "chosen few" scents I'd be "monogamous" about.
I don't think I can be monogamous to one frag, but there may be a one that I go to regularly.

I absolutely love this fragrance. Will forever be my favorite, my "it"

It is subjective but for me a Holy Grail scent is something that has that big "WOW knock you off your feet factor every time you smell it" but may not be versatile. A perfect fragrance is a scent that is well balanced in every department and ticks all the relevant boxes for projection, longevity, unequal smell, complexity etc.

Out of the hundreds of fragrances I have smelled only the below two have come the closest to what I consider to be a Holy Grail fragrance but they are not perfect.

Vintage Amouage Homage
Creed Jardin d Amalfi

Fahrenheit is the only fragrance I consider to be as close to perfection you can get.
I plan to remain polyamorous and fall in love many times.
Vintage Givenchy Gentleman, vintage Worth Pour Homme and Annick Goutal's Sables. These three I'm certain I will always be wearing. Not a 'one' per se, but still. The thing is I don't wear them all the time because I want them to be special. To stick with your analogy I'll say fragrance as a whole is my 'one,' and these three are like three different sorts of... activities.
Yeah, a number of times...

First "it" was Aventus, then it was Straight To Heaven, and right now it's Oud Wood. I never ever want to settle for one. There's too much to experience out there!
By Man by Dolce & Gabbana is my holy grail.

That still doesn't stop me from enjoying other scents but By Man will remain king.
It's hard to choose. It's probably between Tonka Imperiale and Fahrenheit.
Thought I was done; Nothing but Eau d'Hermes for nearly two years, but after finding the copper cap harder to get my hands on, I allowed myself a mistress or two, and have fallen hard for both Sycomore and L'Air du Desert Marocain.

Continued to lurk during my monogomy and inevitably cheated on my lovely Eau.

@ theonlywaste - Prada Amber pour Homme is, indeed, a fine scent, and was, in fact, my SOTD.
And, by the way:
