Body Kouros: Good, or only good for the price?

Poll Results: If Body Kouros were $50/$70 for 50ml/100ml respectively...

  • 31% (15)
    I wouldn't buy it for $25, much less $50 or $70
  • 27% (13)
I would buy it for $25, but if it were more expensive, I wouldn't
  • 41% (20)
It's a good fragrance, so it would even be worth double its price

Do you think Body Kouros is mainly good because it is cheap or is it good in its own right?
It's a sweet frag that I like and think it's good, but yeah I guess the price is quite an allure with it. I don't think it's better than any of the following other sweet desigers: La Nuit, Le Male, The One, DH/DHI, LIDGE, DG PH, AMen and its pures, Rochas, Pi, these are off the top of my head that come to mind that I find better. Considering I own quite a few of those, I wouldn't buy Body Kouros since I think it's outclassed, regardless of the price

I don't like it. It was probably my worst blind buy to date.

While I am not particularly keen on it, I do acknowledge certain good notes of this one and would consider buying it for an affordable price.

I don't really like it. Not at all actually. I think it's one dimensional, heavy handed and lasts way too long.

I usually love Annick Menardo's work, but Body Kouros just pushes the wrong buttons for me. I much prefer Le Male, which is similar but more complex and just so well done.

Good in its own right.

I do not like it.

It's ok. Just not quite my style.

BK ain't cheap, it's 100$ in Europe. I think it's good compared to most designer crap you can find at Sephora...

not bad , I use to wear it after my workout as a balsamic element.

Agreed. I actually like it, I think it's better than many designer fragrances that are more expensive.

It's ok. I can take it or leave it, personally. I agree with the above post that Le Male and the Le Male clones (like 360 White) do this type of fragrance better. I think I would like Body Kouros more if it had actual vanilla in the base and not just the generic sweetness of benzoin/tonka. Also, the eucalyptus top could be toned down in favor of more smoky incense. The eucalyptus mixed with the other notes kinda gives me a hospital or medical bandage vibe. It is unique though, if that's what you like. My vote goes to ok for $25-30, which is what I paid, but I wouldn't buy it at full retail.

If I was looking for a powdery winter/cold weather designer scent, I'd choose Le Male, 360 White, Burberry Brit, or even 212 Sexy over BK.

yes, body kouros is a strange smell, but it has great longevity. and it gets more pleasant during the drydown than in the opening.

i agree, i like le male and rochas better, but body kouros is still good. i think i would still buy body kouros if it were $50, but i probably would have been lower on my to-buy list if the price were higher.

It's an okay frag imho. Nothing that I would write home about. I certainly would not pay more than $30.00 for it.
There's other similar fragrances that do the same thing for a cheaper price.
I like it and used to love it but right now its one of fragrances that I hardly wear and could easy live without. It projects and lasts better than most for that price but its just "too strange".

I think it's a really goog frag in it's own. I don't like to buy backup bottles but i did with this one at 30 euro for 100 ml, it is amazing value for money

I don't mind Body Kouros. I was surprised in a big way when I smelled it and couldn't help but wonder why the heck it had the Kouros name on it. Still. I think it's interesting. Closer to its release date I think the price could be higher, and the fragrance still worthwhile because individuality in the designer world is always worth it to many. However now it's been around for a while I think it's only natural the price should drop. In this country it's one of the cheaper YSL masculines, and a fair price I think.

Hard to ignore Body Kouros for its name, longevity and sheer popularity. Just look at any thread here on top 10 , holy grail scents or sexiest scents and BK will come up over and over again. It is in fact in my own top 8 fragrance list. Great value for money and at the current price alot of bang for the buck.

I have a small decant of this somewhere, and was put off by the cloying heaviness of the scent. As one of the previous posters described it, it also struck me as heavy handed and one dimensional. It might be worth trying again at some point, but it's not something I can see myself ever buying. That said, I can definitely understand why some people like this.
I like it but seem to never find an occasion to wear it. It's a bit one-dimensional sweet, and I have other sweet frags that I like better.
I think it's an excellent scent, soothing yet stimulating. If it has one flaw, I find it somewhat linear, not really changing or evolving with time. I feel it has got somewhat more expensive over the past while, was formerly available at much cheaper prices, but remains decent value now.

This is my opinion also. I'm a bit sick of it now but have gone through a couple of bottles to get to this point.
Really good stuff. It's just easy to bash because it's not a classic like many other YSL men's fragrances.

You guys directed me to BK and for that I will be eternally grateful, this is one of my best finds due to Basenotes. I got it cheap but its easily worth double what I paid.
It's getting also very rare on the shelves in france. Maybe they really stopped production?

great along with kouros classic!

I quite like it but I found myself very rarely reaching for my bottle. In the end I had to swap it.

This was YSL's attempt to replicate the megablockbuster success of Le Male. I think the idea was to create something in the profile of the JPG hit, and use it to reintroduce the Kouros brand to a new generation. Didn't quite work out, however.

I was a big Le Male fan for many years, and I tried this to shake things up a bit, but it certainly didn't surpass its inspiration. I would rather spend the money for Le Male (which I hardly use anymore anyway) than live with the adequate but ultimately less satisfying Body Kouros.
