I got two blind buys on the same day. Annick Goutal Mon Parfum Cherie par Camille reinforces the blind buy. If I were to mistake my lucky randomness for logic I would never have to smell another...
Fourreau Noir makes me consider the possibilities of copying and repetition. Part of a series, variation on a theme? Uninventive, deliberate, derivative? ...
At first sniff I get cumin quite strong and maybe some nutmeg trying to cover up . . . no other way to say it, an awful stench of burning onions with some other odd camphor. Sounds strange and...
I had a long perfectly civil acquaintanceship with Duc de Vervins long before I elected to purchase a bottle. I tried it several times at Bergdorf's and passed on it thinking it is too strong;...
Cool, but sunny Tirrenco opens up with dry, bitter orange peel and a very stark ouzo (or, if you prefer, vodka infused with fennel bulb). There's an undercurrent of salty detritus, washed up on a...
Strange question... my girlfriend has Stella by Stella McCartney and I absolutely love it. For those who know of it, is there a more masculine scent that is similar?

Sorry for the odd question.
THe absolute best male rose is from Montale...Montale Black Aoud, or Montale Louban...Dark brooding rose...WOW!
If memory serves me well, Stella is basically a rose-amber composition. What you exactly like about the fragrance? Is the rose part or the ambery part? Do you want something sweet or just a butch masculine rose?
A long time ago, I was looking for the perfect rose aswell. I find most of the popular ones are either peppered rose (rose poivre), rose with patchouli (voleur de roses, although the older version has a more tolerable amount) or rose with clove etc...
If you want roses and are not afraid to smell like one, pick up a woman's scent. Or try Montale Attar (rose without the fussy agarwood). Iquitos is nice too, but true rose only in the midnotes.
Lyric Man by Amouage
Portrait of a Lady by Frederick Malle
Black Aoud by Montale
These are three fantastic rose scents with Black Aoud being the most masculine.
I was just going to say Dior Ambre Nuit too, Its exactly what you're looking for.
Some of my favourites along with Ambre Nuit would be:
Armani/Prive - Rose d'Arabie
Creed - Windsor
Heeley - Agarwoud Extrait
Montale - Aoud Damascus (A little feminine but more enjoyable imo than the hugely overrated Black Aoud)
No particular ranking except for Windsor, which is the best among many very good examples:
Creed Windsor
Montale Black Aoud
Amouage Lyric Man
MFK Lumiere Noire Pour Homme
Le Labo Rose 31
Tom Ford Noir de Noir
I also like very much Malle's PoaL and Une Rose. I don't find them as clearly meant for men as the others, but they're great rose-based scents and find they work great for me.
I was also looking for rose masculine and I ended up blind buying zino from all the hype, Is there another rose with a great price point for the quality?
Does anyone know how if Noir de noir and black aoud are similar? They both share rose+oud notes but NdN only lasts a few hours on me and I hear black aoud lasts all day. I was thinking of purchasing black aoud if they are similar enough.

JHL by Aramis, as long as you don't mind your rose being mixed with a large dose of carnation. The vintage juice is superior and can be acquired relatively inexpensively on eBay for about $50 for a 50 ml bottle and the current formulation retails for that same amount for 100 ml.

You can check out burberry Brit.
I started a thread about it as I love the rose note but found it a bit too artificial over all.
I'm not so sure if it matches the same rose notes as Stella, but "Bollywood or Bust" by Smell Bent is a very nice rose, sandalwood, and spice scent by Smell Bent (smellbent.com). It hovers somewhere between unisex and masculine and has a nice linear spicy rose from initial spray all the way to the sligthly-less-rosy and more sandalwood-y drydown.
Not to resurrect a topic past its prime, but I bought Christian Dior's Oud Ispahan while I was in NYC this past weekend and it's a pretty darn amazing rose-oud that leans masculine. However, it has a feel that is very formal, which would limit it's "everyday" wear ability.

That's good info! I for one now look forward to trying this. Welcome to basenotes!

Rose Nacree du Desert by Guerlain - best incense rose
Rose 31 by Le Labo - sexiest rose
Black Tie by Washington Tremlett - a rose scent for black tie
Noir de Noir by Tom Ford - best party/club rose
Lyric Man by Amouage - most ciivilized men's rose
Lumiere Noire Pour Homme by MFK - most ethereal rose
Portrait of a Lady, Frederic Malle - most natural concept of the smell roses
Midnight Oud by JHAG - best rose oud
Wow, I just saw Rose 31 mentioned 5 times in the last 24 hours in various places. I think that's a sign that I need to procure a sample. I *just* fell in love with Patchouli 24 (how could I not since I'm an Annick Menardo fanboy?!) from the Le Labo line so I figured I'd sample the rest eventually...gotta ramp up that process, apparently.

I usually wear very butch scents (Bois d'Orage, Pure Oud, vintage Polo and Quorum etc.) but got a 4mL sample of Noir de Noir and can't believe how much I keep going back to it for that dark rose nose.
Before you know it I'll be buying ladies' perfume, after that I can only assume it's a short trip to buying ladies' underwear.
