TOP 5 Must Own Scents For the College Student!

Dig deep into your collection. Choose 5 that you would suggest to a young college student.

I don't want to smell like an old geezer. Consider the babes!!! Not too concerned about prices.

The colognes must be appropriate for college students in their early 20s. Consider the babes!!!

Please try to appeal to the younger crowd on Basenotes. Let's hear your top 5 colognes for the young college student.

Take his advice if you want to be known as "the cologne guy." I'm in college now, and I'm just starting my collection, so it's hard to give you a lot of advice.

Aventus is good for all weather, any occasion. Just wear two sprays to class and it will be enough to get the desired effect.

Pure Malt is also great in general. It's sweet enough where girls tend to really like it, but it's boozy enough to be worn to parties or other outings. You could also just do what I do and wear it casually.

If you want to smell really sweet, you might be able to pull of 1 Million as a clubbing/party scent. I own some and wore it as a signature scent for a while in college. No compliments though.

Just another thing you may want to know. College girls (in my experience, and in the experience of others) tend not to be so open to just randomly/spontaneously saying "you smell good" or "you smell nice, what is that?" than other people would be. If you are already with a girl and you can tell she likes you, you may get a complement. Food for thought.

Below is a list of designer fragrances, some of them are easy to find/sample. Cost of each is less than $100 for a full bottle.

In no particular order ....

Bleu de Chanel
by Chanel OR the original L'Homme by YSL - clean, fresh, pleasant.

A*Men Pure Havane by Thierry Mugler (OR get the cheaper Bogart Pour Homme by Jacques Bogart) - more wearable than the original A*Men

Givenchy Play Intense by Givenchy - another sweet scent; better, and more masculine than Rochas Man.

Vintage Michael for Men by Michael Kors - Tobacco-plum-dried fruits... a gorgeous scent, especially when dining out.

Eau des Baux by L'Occitane - I've read a lot of people compared this to Tobacco Vanille, without the high price tag. A pleasant vanilla drydown, smoky, and manly.

Others:
- Spicebomb by Viktor & Rolf
- Allure Homme Sport Eau Extreme by Chanel

Except for L'Homme, everything I listed lasts on me for at least 7-8 hours without reapplication; with average-to-very good projection.

Yves Saint Laurent L'homme/Bleu De Chanel for casual wear.
A*Men/Rochas Man/Blue Sugar for a sweet scent. IF you're into that.
Burberry London/ck Encounter for a fall scent.
Versace The Dreamer as a date scent.

Sorry these aren't a top 5 but you can not go wrong with any of them. Just be easy on the trigger with The Dreamer and A*Men.

Creed Aventus
Escada Magnetism
Victor & Rolf Spicebomb
Mont Blanc Individuel
JPG Le Male (or Perry Ellis 360 White)
CK One Shock
Burberry Brit
YSL La Nuit de l'homme

All of those would be great for colder weather at college.

For different reasons, all. This would, in my opinion, be a good core collection:

Mugler Cologne
Spicebomb
La Nuit de l'Homme
Bleu de Chanel or Terre d'Hermes
Play Intense

Pure Malt is a good one, too, but not quite as available.

I'll stick to relatively inexpensive and easy-to-find for a college student:
Rochas Man or Givenchy Play Intense
Diesel Fuel for Life, le Male or One Million
Burberry London, Brit, YSL La Nuit or Armani Code
Aqua Di Gio, Perry Ellis 360 Red, Nautica Voyage, A&F Fierce, L'eau d'Issey or Chanel Platinum Egoiste
Chanel Allure Homme Sport or Sport eau Extreme

One from each of those should set you up just fine in the versatility & compliment categories.
