How are you coping wiht the impending Hurricane?

It is very windy and raining in New York City. Mass transit has been suspended. Wishing everyone a very safe and blessed day. Stay safe. I will be going to work to make sure the streets of NYC are that much safer.

I'm down here in Florida worried about my daughter and her one year old son in NJ. Watching the Weather Channel and hoping some of the steam runs out of this storm.

So far, so good, but the higher speed winds are not here yet. We have lots of bottled water/tub filled etc. anticipating power outages (our well pump doesn't run when power is out.)

I have to drive to Mom's in a few hours to take her to the rehab department where she is supposed to start treatment for her shoulder arthritis/bursitis flareup. She had therapy there last year for her hip fracture but wouldn't remember how to find her way there without help.

Voluntary evacuation in some districts here in Jersey City, and there's a driving (not parking) ban after 2PM today. One family has evacuated to our apartment here. Fortunately, we live in a higher area of our town so flooding is not an issue. Work is cancelled, I'm stuck here hoping the power doesn't go out. Stay safe, senore01!

Keep safe, everybody!! You all have a lot of people west of you praying.

Stay safe!

Keep safe indeed! Though living way outside the risk area, I have relatives living in the NY region, thus they are with in my thoughts.

We're not on the coast in Virginia, so we're ok. We were lucky not to lose power in the last one (Irene). Hopefully, it will be the same this time. Be safe, everybody. I've been watching the coverage on TV, the water is over the Battery wall downtown in NYC. And that was at low tide this a.m. Please be careful!

Stay safe everyone!

A friend of mine from NY said she lost power about three hours ago. Hope you all are okay.

So far so good here in MD. The wind is picking up, lots of strange noises out there. It's nerve wrecking, I just hope it's just the wind and not a tree! This drafty old house doesn't help either. Lay low everybody.

My power has blinked a couple times but hasn't actually gone out yet. I'm expecting it too, honestly didn't think it'd hold in this long. Work was closed today, I'm hoping it will be closed tomorrow as well as things are going to be messy out there. I'm not planning to set one toe outside my apartment until this is over.

Everyone stay safe, take extra precautions and stay inside if at all possible!

Still okay here, lots of wind but we have power.

The governor came on TV just now looking very frustrated and said they are estimating there are thousands of people trapped in inundated homes on the shoreline-- people who refused to leave their homes when asked to leave in a door-to-door campaign. They are being told to climb to higher levels, to the roof if necessary-- with high speed winds and rain.

More than 500,000 are without power in the state according to the Hartford Courant.

Hi everyone, from way "out here" I've been watching the conditions in the NY/and area weather, it looks more than nasty, stay safe and sound.

Head of the NYC subway system says that the amount of damage is unprecedented in the systems 108 year old history. Stock exchanges closed Tuesday for second day. Reports of people on their roofs in Bergen County, NJ waiting to be rescued.

I've been watching TV, seeing images of the worst hit areas. I feel so badly for those with homes and businesses along the coastal areas, and so many without power (including my inlaws on Long Island now). We live outside Richmond, Virginia, and we have power. I didn't get much sleep with all the wind whipping and rattling the house overnight, but no damage done here. It's still raining this morning. We need the water. I will be remembering everyone affected by the storm in my prayers. It is all I can do for now.

Got the power back just two days ago. Friends (and friends of friends) have been in and out of our apartment to recharge their bodies and their electronics, since some of the places here are still in the dark with no heat, gas, or food. Curfew is still in effect, and gas rationing system has been implemented.

I'm glad to hear that, Del. My husband's family in Long Island say it will be another ten days or so without power for them. And now there is a nor'easter due (Tuesday), and a drop in temperature. But at least their houses are still standing. I feel so sorry for those who have been absolutely wiped out - devastated - by this storm.

Another 10 days, that is unbelievable, lilybelle! My heart goes out to them. I imagine they will be thinking of buying a generator after this is over.

My husband's parents have a generator, which is keeping the fridge going, and they can run a couple of smaller appliances...but it runs on gasoline. I don't think it is the kind that is buried in the ground and kicks on as a back up. But every little bit helps. The siblings are own their own. No school for the kids. It is only because where they live is so wooded - like CT on the other side of the Sound.

That's some help, then.

We have thought of getting a generator but in all the years we've been here, the power has never been off longer than the 50 hours it was last year.

I threw out all of my fragrances because my fragrance refrigerator stopped running

Seriously? What kind of financial setback was that??
