Amouage Ciel for Him

I went to the Scent Bar a few days ago and sniffed Ciel.
Boy, how disappointing. It smells like a higher quality Le Male--which by no means smells bad, just not necessarily Amouage quality.

Does anyone else catch this parallel?

Unfortunately, the version I smelled a couple of years ago smelled much worse than Le Male. A most boring "fresh" sporty masculine. Luca Turin's positive review does not correspond to the current stuff and must refer to a long gone version. Yet another ruined perfume from Amouage.

I wonder what Ciel smelled like prior to its reformulation (if, indeed, Ciel really was reformulated--maybe this was just another left-field review my Monsieur Turin).

Also found it pretty bad although I didn't get the connection with Le Male.

Turin wrote, favorably, that it smells urinous, and cites Jules. What I smelled is nothing of the sort, so there must have been a reformulation, which unfortunately seems to have happened to many Amouages (Gold, Ubar, Homage, etc)

I don`t find any similarities with Le Male..

No similarity to Le Male that I can discern.

More of an aromatic fougere along the lines of GIT and MPG Garrigue, but with that slightly funky moist note Turin mentions in the opening. It's not one of my favourite Amouges but quite interesting if you like that genre, less obviously squeaky clean 'n green crowd pleaser than the more commercial ones.

Its good but unremarkable and not worth the high price in my opinion. Not too similar to Le Male to my nose.

See, I don't get the GIT parallel.

I should probably start a new thread on Amouage reformulations. Gold woman smelled fantastic last time I tried it. What did it smell like before?

I kinda enjoyed it...its no masterpiece but quite nice...I dont think I would spend the $$ on a FB though.

Gold woman and Ubar still smell good, but they were much bigger before. Gold woman opened with an aldehydic blast followed by an explosion of all types of flowers. The current version is smaller in size and more concentrated on white flowers, with less jasmine and a sort of woody ambery deep drydown that I don't like. Ubar was an enormous lactonic floral oriental; now it's still grand but less so. Homage seems to vary across batches, the latest I smelled was a thin neroli with apparently not much else.

Reflection Man is the one that smells like Le Male IMO.

My thoughts as well. Could there have been a mis-reading of labels?
