Tobacco Vanille- How do you wear it?

I bought a sample of TV, and decided to give it a run today. Oh man is it strong. I put one spray at the base of my neck, and a half spray on my wrist so I could continue to test it if I was unable to pick it up from my neck. I definitely did not need the spray on my wrist. So far in the first several hours, it is strong, harsh, sweet, and just continues to project. I constantly pick it up. I've considered showering to knock it down, but I've been lazy.

Any input on how, when and where to wear it? I think for my next wearing I'm going to move the sprayer back quite a bit. I'm just not sure if I like it. It is super sweet, and never gives up.

Spray some in a vial and then dilute it. Then dab it on, one dab at a time, until you get the desired strength (that's my method).
1/2 spray on both sides of my neck just behind the ears.
When I used to have a bottle I only needed one spray to the chest and even then it was strong and really projected.
I wear it lightly. One or two sprays is often enough with this one.
One spray. Usually under my shirt. It's serious.
Same here I have backed off to a single chest shot, it's just too potent outside on the wrists. I smell like a tobacco humidor coming down the hall with more than that.
It was my SOTD in fact, and I did 2 shots under my shirt. Just right. I was wearing 2 shirts today though. I would avoid spraying outside of clothing.

So weird. I have a sample as well, and do a shot on each wrist. It's strong, but not nearly as strong as the rest of you seem to experience.

This reminds me of my initial experience. I bought a sample of TV as well, about a year ago. It was super strong, even with just one spray to my neck. I would never wear this on warm days. The way I would apply TV is the same way I would apply the other Tom Ford Private Blends (e.g. Oud Wood, Noir de Noir), and that's one spray on each inside of the elbow - two sprays total. Anything over two sprays is too much, IMO. Also, spraying on the chest/neck area would make it too cloying.

Spraying on the inside of the elbow would give the scent a nice distance away from my nose, so that I can truly enjoy it.

I did a single spray for a Birthday party I had to go to, it can be a tad cloying if overapplied
post #12 of 46
One spray on each side of the neck.
I have a sample and two shots will last me all day. I assume that since it sprays less it would equal one normal shot from the bottle or a larger atomizer. As others said, I usually just spray it under my shirt, or occasionally on my lower neck.

In the winter I do 1 spray on the chest, 1 on the front of the neck, and 1 dabbed between wrists.
I full shot to the upper chest (on the skin, not shirt) should do the trick.

Only 2 things will survive a nuclear war: cockroaches and Tom Ford's Tobacco Vanille.

I would recommend 1 or 2 sprays no higher than your chest. If I am wearing a short sleeve shirt, then I will apply 1 of the sprays to my arm. Oh, and don't apply it to your clothing because the heavy parfum oils will leave a stain.

definitely some TV humor, its indeed a sillage monster

I follow my normal routine - one spray on each side of my neck, just below my earlobes, and one spray on the back of my neck, near my hairline.

i'm not sure how some of you put on more than one spray. I usually dont do more than one spray with 90% of my colognes.

I barely had any on and it had constant projection.
4 sprays for me, each earlobes, neck and back of the neck.
Just like all my other fragrances....6 sprays....
impossible..

Just a dab on my wrists projects pretty well. One to 2 sprays at the most for me.
6-8 sprays!
One spray to the stomach and one inside each elbow. With some of the loudest scents with huge projection (Cuir Mauresque I am looking at you) I decant into a vial and just dab a drop on each elbow.
One spray on the back of the neck is more than ample for me. Even then it will be at least an hour before I leave the house and only ever on a cold day! I think my 50ml will comfortably see me in my box.

I'm with you on this. It does seem a little odd to me, though. Tobacco Vanille and Oud Wood used to scream in my face...now seem far more tame. I'm almost having to double up on my applications to get the same effect as when I started wearing them.

I also find if I apply TV on my skin (opposed to clothing) it ends up smelling exactly like cocoa butter after several hours. If I spray some on clothing, it retains some of that tobacco "bite" much longer.

1-2 sprays low on the chest then dab my wrists on that spot and dab on back of neck, inner elbows, hair.
I adore this scent. 3 sprays: one on each side of the neck and another on the back of the neck.
Amazing frag. 1 spray will def last you, but I usually go 2 because I love it so. 1 to the neck and one to the chest.
I never subscribe to the 2 or 3 sprays idea, but TV literally needs 1 or 2

pretty funny
Optimally, I would be able to bath in it. I simply cannot afford that so alternatively 2 sprays to the neck. Love this frag.
I use a little roller bottle. Allows me to put a small amount on both wrists and both sides of neck to its not too much.
A spray on each forearm and just one spray on the chest. This is powerful stuff!

Off topic: but can this be worn in the spring/summer with less application??

Thanks

I haven't tried wearing it in Chicago heat. But I could see it being ok with 1 spray up to 80 degree weather.

My best friend has been wearing this as her signature scent for the past 2 or 3 years, and she goes with 8-10 sprays. Yeah, I counted. About 4-5 around her neck, 3 down her chest, couple other random spritzes. She wears it primarily for the compliments/comments that inevitably come after a good spraying. I suspect she is a little anosmic to it after so long.
usually 3 sprays on my neck and 1 on the back of my hand.
I only have a 4 ml decant from Nieman's Marcus, transferred some to a spray vial, and this is how I apply:

1 spray to the chest, under the shirt
1 spray to the base of the neck
and an optional spray at the back of the neck.

Wear it on a super cold day out on the town. honestly, I could go 5 sprays and I'd be fine only because I love TV. But, in reality I do 1 on each side of the neck and one on the chest. 3 in total.
One shot, one kill with TV.
Half spray on each cuff.
One spray on neck/beard.
One spray across waistline.

I normally wear 12-18 sprays of everything, but TV is so strong, that's PLENTY.
1-2 sprays is enough for me, for the whole day. I'm not anosmic to TV.
I did 2.5 sprays today, that was ~6 hours ago and anosmia has not set in at all. Next time I will try 1.5 sprays.

Awesome stuff though.

I tried it again, gave it a little more distance, and did one spray, and it was amazing.

I really like this stuff now. I'm sure my 5ml sample will last me a while
