New here! A*men, Le Male and...

Hi all!

I'm new here but have always been into fragrances! My favourites are A*men and Le Male. I use these for years now but can't seem to find other fragrances that I like?

What would you recommend?

Well, if you are looking for things directly similar to those, there is a Reflection Man comparison I hear a lot (to Le Male). As for A*Men, it's unique for sure, but some of it's flankers like Pure Malt, Pure Havane, and Taste of Fragrance are noted around here as being good. I like Pure Malt a lot, and Havane is just okay. I get a poor man's Back to Black vibe from it.

Sounds like you are fond of gourmand scents. And they both have vanilla.
Try:
Dior Homme
Body Kouros (opens different but has vanilla/incense thing le male does.)
Rochas Man
1 million (sweet but not much vanilla)

Well thank's for the quick replies. I tried 1 million of all the suggestions you made but it seems a bit synthetic to me? Can a fragrance smell synthetic?? Don't know how to describe it.

First of all Welcome to Basenotes! I was told in the beginning to start sampling different fragrances by trying samples you find free at some stores or buy them on websites like Surrender To Chance, The Perfumed Court, My Perfume Samples and try Crystal Flacon. It's the best way to try different fragrances and discover what you do and don't like cheaply without buying full bottles.
Good luck on your scented journey and feel confident that you have picked a good board to be on!

PS Givenchy PI is a good vanilla to try.

Welcome to basenotes dsquared2. Happy to have you aboard. One million is certainly a synthetic smelling fragrance. You may want to try more natural smelling gourmand/vanilla scents such as Jaipur Homme, Tobacco Vanille, Givenchy PI, Play Intense, and Dior Homme. All are good fragrances. I also suggest that you purchase samples and test before you buy a bottle. This will save you a lot of money in the long run. Once again, welcome to basenotes. Stay Fragrant.

Thank you for all the suggestions. I guess there are some really professional frangrace specialists here! Some suggestions I read, I have never heard of. Here in Belgium we mostly see the fragrances in the shops that are very (armani, gaultier, dior..). When I am in an airport shop then I see a lot of other things (like Tom Ford... Is TV worth the money?) Where can one buy bottles on line to sent to Europe?

Yes fragrances can be synthetic to answer your question it is a very common term used by fragrance aficionados to describe fragrances that smell fake and chemically.

Also if you like One Million but found it to be too synthetic (which I agree with), then give Viktor and Rolf Spicebomb, they are similar but Spicebomb does it a million times better (no pun intended).

I think Armani Code and L'Occitane Eau des Baux would be great fragrances for you to try.

There are lots of people who experience Le Male is very synthetic too.

In addition to the various A*Men flankers that others have mentioned, I think there's a good chance you'd like Bond No. 9 I Love New York For All.

Armani Code is the only thing I could think of. It is slightly similar to Le Male (almost like a darker, spicier verison)

I was originally trying to suggest common fragrances. But, as senore1 pointed out, TV is amazing. My favorite vanilla. It is totally worth the price, but you could always go in on a split (even with extra shipping charges it will still be cheaper than buying a full bottle.)

Well I went to the shop here to sample some of the suggestions you made. Of course only mainstream fragrances are available here. But... it's a start!

- Couldn't find any flankers of A*Men... :-(
- I tried Givenchy Pi, it's nice but do I smell something like aniseed? Like a Ricard?
- Armani Code, not bad but the notes that make Le Male so special are missing here...
- Play intense, nice but does it last long?

For the other tips, I guess I have to hit the sites to sample!

You might be interested in Datura Blanche (Keiko Mecheri). It is very, very sweet. It's a bit on the feminine side. (I'm reminded of this because I'm wearing it today.)
