Is it worth paying retail for Dior Homme original formulation?

Is it worth paying retail for Dior Homme original formulation? No discount since its at a major departmental store.

Silver collar, silver straw/tube.

From the tester I sprayed on my hand, and immediately I noticed the difference from most-current-my-made-in-2012 version from top to till dry down its so much more pleasant and smooth without that strange note/vibe (that I can't describe) in the current version.

Will be returning to the store to check if the boxes in stock are the original or if its only just the tester thats got only 30% left...

(note: Dior Homme, not the Intense version)

Not sure I understand your question.

Dior Homme (original formulation) can be had at regular retail price, so yes it is worth retail to buy it at retail.

If you have found the original, vintage formulation still in stores then yes it is worth paying retail.

Check the code on the bottom of the box to make sure it is indeed the vintage. They might have a vintage tester but new juice for sale. I found a 2010 Dior Homme vintage at Sephora a couple months ago and snatched it right up.

Sure it is. It's my favorite among the four Dior Homme/Dior Homme Intense originals/reformulations. If you don't like it, I'm sure that you can sell it here.

But the current version is just fine, too.

I haven't smelled the reformulation yet, but vintage Dior Homme is one of my favourite scents ever so I'd say yes to the topic's question. I was lucky enough to find a vintage bottle last month.

Having said that, I've heard that the reformulation is closer to vintage Dior Homme Intense with the increased cocoa, so I'm interested in trying out the reformulation as well.

If I like it well enough, yes. I don't buy stuff just because they are on discount.

Btw sjackal, since it seems we are on the same sunny island, where exactly did you find this vintage? My bottle from 2010 is running low and I've been searching for a backup. Without a side by side comparison I'm not entirely convinced the silver tube is THE definitive indicator of Dior Homme's vintage.

Yes, by all means, buy it! It's totally worth it. Dior Homme is fantastic in all formulations, but especially the original.

Diamondflame, Isetan NEX shopping centre. I was prepared to buy all the vintage there's left there but alas... the tester is June 2010, the 100ml in stock is May 2011 black stem, the only 50ml bottle left is August 2010 silver straw vintage which I just bought minutes ago. Sales lady skillfully opened box to check for me.

Haven't spray test the 50ml yet but the tester bottle smell distinctly smoother than my 2012 current batch and it last a significant longer time.

I think there might be higher chances finding it in the heartland stores than the popular stores in town.

THIS!!!

Never assume the tester is what you'll get in a brand new box. It's not usually an issue for most scents, but when dealing with batch variations or new/vintage, it matters.

Nice find! I thought most dept stores would have sold or return all the older stock. I bought mine from Mustafa's in 2010 but the last I check they no longer carry any old stock. I agree it's worth scrounging through the odd neighborhood fragrance stores for vintage DH. But with a big wardrobe I'm not particularly concerned. Will probably just 'archive' the last 5 ml and move on.

I've only smelled the original juice, and I dig it. I've read more than a couple of times that the newest reformulation is nice so I'm'a have to check it out. But yeah, if you like it the way it smells and it's something you can see yourself wearing, then it's worth it.

Thanx, I actually like both. Especially since the Intense version is not available in my region and the new formulation is a lot like the old Intense version - or so they says - I dont know, perhaps will never.

There is a weird vibe that is hard to describe with the opening of the new formulation, which I find it more sharp/defensive which I don't prefer. The original is smoother and denser to me, almost mysteriously inviting, if thats the way to describe it, as a layman/newbie. After an hour its smells the same.

Also to add, the original feels stronger to me.

Thanx lot.

I thought I should put this down; 2 days later now I still smell the original on the left sleeve of my pajamas (yeah I didn't change!) which I worn the original on my left forearm, which is remarkable considering I showered and thought I washed it off. Nothing left at all on the right sleeve, which I worn the reformulated on my right forearm.

Will not hesitate to buy another if I ever came across another one.

I found a 1.7 OZ Dior Homme Vintage in a cologne shop a few weeks back. I went back yesterday and bought it for a mere $44.95. That's a bargain, and much better than the new stuff. I have my new version up for sale on ebay at this moment. I paid $60 for it, and I won't get it back. The old version is worth it, the new is not.
