Ambre Sultan or P DE Ambre Rousse??

Whoops, I mean Ambre Russe. If I have AS, do I need P DEmpire AR??? Im getting that theyre slightly different beasts, but are they similar in spirit and do I REALLY need both?
AS pushes my sweetness envelope, though its not exactly saccharine and Im a wee bit concerned that AR will just be a bit erm... Gloopy.
Pinions??

IMO worth having both.

AS is over here

Ambre Rousse - Ambre Précieux - Versilia Vintage Ambra Mediterennea are over here

If it were between the latter three, I'd say no need but AS is different enough from the latter three to validly owning it and AR or AP or my personal preference and reference-amber : Versilia Vintage AM.

AR is sweeter and a bit boozy. V nice.

I have AS and Amber Absolute FBs but only a sample of AR. Nice, but redundant IMO. If I didn't have AA however..........

Have you considered AA?

Oddly, no I havent. Im almost exclusively a fan of over the top scents (tame isnt really my thing ;-)) To me, everything I smell of his is just so... Assaulting, like walking into a small room lined entirely in purple fake fur. I always smell pouty insistence instead of persuasion in his fumes; its almost like his narcissism is oozing through the bottle at me. I know I should just get over myself and smell AA but I have a hard time getting his LOL blue steel intrusions into his own ads out of my head.

ANYWAY, A Russe is sounding like a starter, and Im staring at a slightly used bottle on the interweb for cheap. Just shelled out big time for miel de bois, though, so any more advice would be appreciated......

If you're serious about your ambers which I'm sure you are, get both. If I had to pick one, I think Ambre Russe is better. I prefer the overdose of vanilla in my amber fragrances. Someone mentioned Ambre Précieux. That's an excellent one as well.

I would suggest you look at Patchouly pour Homme by Reminiscence, which is also very much in line with this list.

^ In line with what? I don't pick up patchouli in either of the scents mentioned above.

Op, I like both of these scents, and don't see owning both being redundant. They're quite different.

And you would be surprised: patchouli is often dosed below perception levels and is often present even when most people wouldn't recognise its presence. In any case I find Patchouly pour Homme is a Woody Ambery where Patchouli is blended with an Ambre Sultan accord that softens the composition, but only one way for you to see this: smell it!

If you don't mind some tobcco in there then go for AR, it's stellar.

I'm also a fan of Ambra Nera by Farmacia Ss. Annunziata... I didn't like AS, and AR can be a little cloying.

You definitely need both, no regrets, life is short...

I absolutely LOVE AS! I have yet to try AR so cannot weigh in on this matter. Ambre Sultan is definitely one of my top fragrance picks though. It is so comforting and cozy in a sexy way.
