Looking For A Modern Spicy Leather

Thread Starter
Hello folks. I just had a mental visualization of an ideal fragrance for me right now. I'm looking for a modern spicy leather scent. Little to no sweetness. Smooth and high quality. I'd prefer it if it were not rough around the edges/too harsh. I'm looking for refinement.

I'd prefer it if it were heavier on spices and less on leather(sage, pepper, cardamom etc). Honey or beeswax are welcome notes. I'd prefer if patchouli wasn't too dominant. I already have Giorgio For Men & the VIP version. I have Antaeus too!

Does anyone have ideas? I'd prefer a more modern release as refinement isn't a forte of 80's powerhouse frags.

Cédrat Intense by Parfums de Nicola (Don't let the title fool you) Patchouli is understated. Has spice and leather. Just a suggestion.

Dior Leather Oud may be just what you want. The leather is spiced and mingled with agarwood smoke, and the drydown has a slightly naughty honey/civet base. Despite that, from a foot or more away its effect is very sophisticated and warm, rather than skanky. Patchouli isn't much of a player there, either, if at all.

+1 on the Dior Leather Oud. This opens with a smooth smoky saddle leather with tobacco. It reminds me of the scent from imperial leather soap but intensified and with a symphony of notes.

As time goes by the civet kicks in and gives the scent a dark muskyness within the smoky woody smooth saddle leather. This sweetens with honey to make the whole composition smell just great.

Now their are no jagged edges within this scent accord as everything is blended to perfection. The oud in this smells like smoky burning wood and the leather is more of a light supple saddle leather. Mixed together with the honey and civet gives you a smoky leathery dark sweet musky scent.

Dior Leather Oud sounds like my type of juice. I am going to have to take a sniff at this one as Dior is my favorite line. Thanks for the information.

To me Leather Oud is more Oud wood & Civet. I love it.

Maybe Or Black.

@Critic

+1 For Leather Oud recommendation.
It's exactly what you described.

Leather Oud works fine, but Puredistance M fits the request better.

Bel Ami Hermes, IMO

If you want a modern spicy leather, you should look into Puredistance M. While many people seem to enjoy Dior Leather Oud, I personally think is smells like a barnyard (any many people around you may also), so give that a try a few times before you jump onto that one.

L'artisan Al Oudh might not have leather listed but it is a spice and leather fragrance imo. Very heavy on spices.
Little to no sweetness and smoothness suggest almost an impossibility to me but.. anyway.

Some more:
MFK - Absolue pour le soir
Hermes Bel ami & Puredistance M +1
Lancome Cuir

I find Leather Oud's combo of oud, musk, civet and honey = urine, so try before you buy.

Here's a cheapy worth a shot: Sienna by Crabtree and Evelyn. 'The fragrance features leather, spices, citruses and green notes'. It is dry and spicy and not loud-leathery, but it isn't that smooth. More of a low growl than a purr.

Leather Oud was my scent of the day yesterday and I have to say it is one hell o of a scent. Long lasting and smooth leathery and smokey oud. I get at least one complment every time I wear it. It works so well on me. Try it and see how it works for you.

Definitely Puredistance M.

I get this too, in the drydown, when I stick my nose right in it. It frightens me, because I don't want to offend anyone. Two things reassure me though: first, that the urine effect isn't really there for me from a foot or more away; second, friends who I've asked to sniff close up have said it smells nice. Weird.

Despite that challenging base, I keep going back to Leather Oud. There's a whole other aspect to wearing it that I find both warm and thrilling.

Tom Ford Extreme

My favorite smooth spicy leather is Tom of Finland: saffron, lemon, and leather. Cute logo, regrettably plain bottle.

I like Leather Oud but I don't think it's very spicy.

Have you tried Habit Rouge by Guerlain? The vintage juice (especially the EdC) has a nice whiff of leather.
