Your opinions on CDG

Hi everyone

I have the first CDG for men , i do love it . I would like to buy the CDG 2 Man and i read reviews about it .
Some say it's quite simiar to Puig Quorum , that i also have . Is that true? Do you see any similarities ?.
Some others say it's like Gucci PH ( i have too ).
I have Avignon , and i expect in CDG2 Man , a mix between Avignon and CDG the first . In fact , i would'nt want something like Quorum , i want something more "strange" , with incense but also the fresh spicy notes of CDG first one . Could CDG 2 Man be a good one according to you ?

Thanks a lot for your answers

2 Man is excellent, but I really don't see much similarity to the also excellent Quorum.

2 Man is better than Quorum or Gucci PH in my opinion, and different enough that you could own all 3. I've never tried the original CDG so can't comment on that.

I'd still sample first, though.

Definitely sample first. I don't find CDG 2 Man anywhere near as "mainstream" or "easy" as many on Basenotes would have it. It turns on a shamelessly synthetic accord of odd-numbered aldehydes paired with frankincense. The aldehydes do indeed created a "snuffed out candle" effect, but to me, it also smells like a chemical fire. I don't find it warm; I find it arch, avant-garde, and remote.

The similarity to Gucci pour Homme (2003) is the frankincense note. Otherwise, GpH is a wholly different scent -- the frankincense is surrounded by ginger, black pepper, dry cedar, and a quietly sweet amber. What woods are present in CdG 2 Man are quite subdued indeed -- you won't notice them much for all the synthetic weirdness.

For what it's worth, I haven't warmed up to CdG 2 Man at all yet, but I do really like both Gucci pour Homme and CdG Avignon. So these are all quite distinct fragrances.

Man 2 is excellent, but nothing like Avignon. People call it an incense scent because of the white smoke accord in the opening, but really, to me, it is smoky but not an incense - Not all dry woods and smoke smells are incense.

You'd probably want to sample first.
