Thread Starter
today i received decants of neroli portofino
i fint it quite similar to Acqua Di Parma - Essenza Di Colonia which i like a lot and got me 180ml Bottle.
im right now waiting for a Bottle of Eau De New York By Bond No9
which it seems to Be very promissing, it was a Blind Buy, i never smelled it Before
and for what i've read, i think the proBaBility of liking it , its pretty high.

i also like original vetiver, But price is not justified
when i can have mugler - cologne for 1/7 the price
and right now i like mugler - cologne is the one that i like the most, so far, from all the ones i've mentioned

Mugler - Cologne
Acqua Di Parma - Essena Di Colonia
Bond No9 - Eau De New York
Tom Ford - Neroli Portofino
Creed - Original Vetiver
Prada - amBer PH

whats your favorite or your top 6 ?

Mysore Sandal Soap

Guerlian still make an excellent Habit Rouge soap. Crabtree & Evelyn also do a terrific Vetiver.

Roget & Gallet soaps

The Creed soaps are of terrific quality. Not cheap though admittedly.

None of that overpriced old pony.

Cusson's Imperial Leather.

There has been a bar of this soap in every house I've ever lived in since the early 70's.

Plus one; it's a wonderful smell. Also love Shield soap (but I'm a bit biased)

Savon Du midi - Vetyver. Best thing ive ever smelled.

The one that doesn't get in my eyes.

My favorite soapy frag of the ones I have tried or own, would probably be Infusion d'Homme.

Aesop body cleansing slab; Bergamot rind, Ylang Ylang and Tahitian Lime.
Despite the somewhat misleading title, I think the OP meant soapy scents rather than bars of soap.

Agree, I love this soap.

To me, it's a pretty tough decision between Mugler Cologne and Creed OV, since I adore both, also Prada Amber and - this one not on the list - Rive Gauche PH by YSL being quite close to the top spot.

I agree, Prada Infusion d'Homme is very good in these terms
post #16 of 36
Prada Infusion d'Homme, which is definitely much soapier than Amber PH.
I don't even find Amber PH soapy, just cloyingly sweet.

Same thing for Essenza, I don't find it soapy. I think the soapiest from the AdP line is Colonia Assoluta

David, do you do a shield soap? If so, which one?
I have strong memories of the mid-late 70s advertising....

The official title of this thread reads......What Is Your Favourite Soapy Scent ?........I am a little confused as to why everyone is listing their favourite soaps and not their favourite soapy scent ???

Here's mine
Boss no 1 ~ for me the ultimate soapy fragrance, but just one spray ~ this strong stuff.
Ivoire, Balmain ~ pure white soapy fragrance a la Lux, Camay or one of those other classic bars of soap.
Kobako, Bourjois
Chaumet Homme ~ very soapy lemon fragrance
Boucheron Homme

mugler and grey vetiver

Don't forget about Gendarme and Gendarme 20. Both great in my book. From your list: OV and Prada Amber PH.
of those you listed I'd go for Mugler Cologne.
I prefer the Prada

The title was "What's your favorite soap?" at first, then the OP changed it.

My favorite soapy scent is Derby. Not among those listed, but if you're looking at Creeds, you owe it to yourself to try this one out.

Prada Amber Pour Homme
Mugler Cologne

I like AdP Essenza and Mugler Cologne....but I also consider Guerlain's Vetiver pretty soapy after the drydown

Creed Himalaya
original vetiver has gotten me more compliments than i expected
i usually wear this to the gym, or just to smell nice not looking to make an impression
post #28 of 36
I voted for the Acqua di Parma Essenza. I got this towards the end of the summer and have been very happy with it since. Original Vetiver was my first Creed, but I only use the shaving soap now - the cologne seems to bland for me and Essenza is more unique in my opinion.

I have to say that Essenza has gotten me more compliments in 3 months than OV did in 3 years (first bought it 2009). I'll be definitely getting another bottle when this one runs out.

Truefitt & Hill Grafton Cologne is VERY soapy.
Please try it on you travels.

prada amber pour homme
Oh! I get it now. I think. The only one I know from the list is Essenza, which I developed a liking for earlier in the year. I didn't know it was soapy. If on the other hand I was having my linen soaked in anything, it would be TF Lavender Palm.

Thread title change make Joe look silly.

Joe no like title change.

Joe smash title.

Wife always tells me Blenheim Bouquet smells 'soapy'.

She's raving mad, obviously.

Vetiver Hombre by Adolfo Dominguez

Of the ones you listed, I voted for Creed's OV ( Yes, a compliment getter, esp from the elegant and restrained) but THIS is the soapiest vetiver I've smelled.

You will either feel like a cartoon character that's burping soap bubbles or rejoice in finding one of the classiest barbershop-soap scents.

And I rejoice to say I haven't the slightest idea what the price/ratio is to Mugler.

Cheers,

Mario

From the list given I have to say Amber pour Homme is my current favorite. That being said I do find both Infusion d'Homme and Infusion de Vetiver to be far more soapy.
Changing the goal posts doesn't help much. The original question was "What is your favourite soap/"; this was answered. The adjective "soapy" can mean many things in Perfumery. Traditional Fougeres are often described as "soapy" as they often fragrance shaving products. Very aldehydic fragrances are often described as "soapy" as aldehydes work very well in soap fragrances.

Not sure what is wanted here, or why.

now that we've had the gendarme family mentioned, i'll throw in votes for the original EdC or EdP, and Green, and to a lesser extent Grabazzi and Sky. I'm saying this because just in case the OP is looking for soapy scents without having any knowledge of the gendarme house, he should make a mental note to try as many as he can get his hands on, since being soapy is pretty much a given with them.
