I was wondering has anyone ever encountered any shipping problems with USPS? Currently I am having a huge problem with them. Back on November 10th I shipped a package from NYC to Miami Florida, or at least so I thought. The writing on the package was misread as an 8 instead of a 3. This was brought to my attention by a fellow basenoter who hadn't received his package yet. When I tracked the package it was sent to Memphis Tennessee, that is only the beginning of the problem. When I contacted the postal service they said they will create a case number and have someone get back to me in one business day. Well, that didn't happen. Almost a week after they said they were going to contact me I contacted them again only to be told I would be assigned a different case number. Are you kidding me? I was instructed by the customer service rep to contact the consumer affairs department of the post office.
Here, is where it gets ridiculous. When the consumer affairs representative contacted me they had asked if I had insured the package. Of course I did not. They seemed more interested in blaming me for my sloppy penmanship instead of trying to resolve the issue. I have worked in the customer service industry for 16 years and I know that you never tell a customer what you cannot do for them, you only tell them what you can. When I asked them if they could contact the postal facility where my package was they had said that it wasn't proper protocol and they weren't allowed to do that. They weren't allowed to do that? So when asked what happens when a package goes undelivered what is the proper protocol? I was told that it is supposed to be returned to sender. So, you see the irony behind this one? I am told that they cannot contact the postal facility where my package is because that would be against company policy but they also went against their own policy by retaining the package for nearly three weeks now. This package has been shipped from Tennessee to Florida and then Florida to Tennessee four times already... This has been a surreal experience for me. When I asked them what can I do? They replied " nothing, hopefully the package gets shipped back and if not they are not libel because it wasn't insured". I know this post is a little long winded but I felt it had to get out there. Does anyone have any recommendations as to how to handle this one?
