HUGE sample purchase....need help deciding.....

hi guys

first post on basenotes.

i have decided to move away from the common everyday scents available at your local mall, and move into the niche market.

so i visited the perfumed court, as recommended by bn.
i worked up a list of scents i want to try.
Here is the said list i have so far.
All are 2.5ml glass spray vials.

\t
Tom Ford Private Blend Tuscan Leather
Tom Ford Private Blend Tobacco Vanille
Tom Ford Private Blend Italian Cypress (Milan exclusive)
Tom Ford Grey Vetiver
Tom Ford Private Blend Noir de Noir
Creed Silver Mountain Water
Creed Bois du Portugal
Creed Original Vetiver
Creed Himalaya
Creed Green Irish Tweed
Frederic Malle Musc Ravageur
Byredo Parfums Fantastic Man EDC
Byredo parfums Black Saffron EDP
Gucci Pour Homme II
Guerlain Men's Sampler - 12 men's Guerlain Scents
Creed Vintage Tabarome ~ Discontinued & Hard to Find

wanted to add aventus, but they only have the K04 batch, which i have read is not so good.
their is about $280 worth of samples there, a lot i know.
what i like i will buy in full from a split.

what should i add or remove from this list??
Also what are the more summery scents from this list would u say?? (since its summer her is Aus)

appreciate the responses.

cheers

Some beautiful frags you got headed your way.
Myself, I would do without the Guerlain sampler.
You have some that would work for summer, but I wouldn't classify them as such. Italian cypress and git are both pretty versatile.
I would recommend hermes for summer: un jardin en mediterranee or voyage him(if you like aquatics.)

Smw and gph2 can work for summer, as well.

Personally I'd remove:

Byredo Parfums Fantastic Man EDC
Byredo parfums Black Saffron EDP

Fair warning, you may wait a long time for those samples. People have said they wait upwards of a month for their samples to arrive.

I recommend ditching all the Tom Fords and Creeds - I feel none of them are very good - and adding some feminine Guerlains, perhaps a Chanel or two.

I ordered from them last month and it took around 4 weeks to receive my order. Though, they were in the process of re-locating at that time. I believe they've finished re-locating.

I agree with hednic, there is better out there than Breydo.

Before placing the order with Perfumed Court, look at Surrender to Chance. http://surrendertochance.com/

You will have a better chance of getting what you want much sooner than TPC.

The House of Guerlain has over a hundred year history with many high quality frags still on the market,so, I would not give up the Guerlains!

Hi! slider17...
I just posted my first post in the Basenotes forum, too. It was recommended that in addition to The Perfumed Court and other places that sell decants - that I should try the online shop, Aedes, for some samples. For $15.00, you get (7) samples (this includes shipping). And their selection was great for the niche-y stuff that I have been recommended here on basenotes. Not sure if they have your brands, but this was a great tip, and I thought I'd share...

Not being smart but save your money and buy a huge bottle of Aventus. You only need one if it's that good.

Add a few bykillians in there.

I don't have any issues with your list...just what you're paying. I don't know how others do their sampling, but I only need about 1 ML to make a decision on a scent. My suggestion: Drop down to the 0.5 - 1 ML range...get them in vial form...buy your own atomizers...and save at least $100 on this order.
that's a lot of money to spend on samples. if you have a bloomingdales, saks or neinman near you, you can sample the tom fords and creeds and probably get decants of the ones you want to sample further. i only buy samples of fragrances i can't find near me.
I'm a newbie here too, but thought i drop in my 2 cents since i've collected like 30+ samples in the last few weeks, haha. I'd say for all the tom fords and creeds just hit up your nearest nordstroms / neiman marcus / bloomingdales / saks fifth. Call ahead first to see if they carry it, then go and check it out to see if you like the scent. I was curious about the killian line and almost ordered some samples. Im glad i didn't because i didn't like any of them except for the back to black. IF you happen to have a saks near you they actually sell diptyque, which i believe would be considered a niche brand, i smelled their tam dao and its pretty awesome. (sandalwood + ambergris). Most stores still carry gucci pour homme II i think, so you can probably get a sample of that. I'd actually recommend ordering the penhaligon samples since theres not many stores that carry it. Check out Sartorial and Endymion.

Oh and on Aventus, check it out at the department store and if you like it buy it there. that way you can check out the exact batch numbers and exchange/return if need be. I got me the E01 Batch and i'm very happy with it =)

That is far too much to pay for samples in my opinion. If I were you, I would isolate the ones I really want and try and get smaller amount of them and go from there. Very likely, you will really love a few and will thank me for saving that $150+ dollars so you can buy a bottle or two, or multiple decants/splits from Facebook groups or on here.

I've used them...was happy with what I got. Again, I had my own atomizers, so that helped.

Azure Lime
Gucci by Gucci Pour Homme II

this is my new list.
a tad over $100.
all 2ml sprays.
from surrendertochance

better?

live in melbourne, AUS.
so don't really have many dept stores that have samples.

edit; just out of curiosity, how many sprays can u get out of 2ml?
Still a good list. A better price too. Now you can use that saved $180 to buy 1-3 bottles (depending on size and what you want) of these

I usually only spray each wrist 1-2 times with a sample spray and sometimes my chest 1-2 times. That said, I can usually get a few days to a week with a 2 ML sample.

From what people say on here, take out Azure Lime. Noir de Noir is awesome, but just be ready to smell kind of feminine.
I'd drop the Aventus, Black Orchid, Azure Lime n Italian Cypress. And get in more Guerlains.

Frederic Malle Musc Ravageur
Creed Millesime Imperial

Creed Green Irish Tweed

Tom Ford Grey Vetiver

getting the above from bn user kron.

Tuscan Leather
Tobacco Vanille
Noir de Noir
Azure Lime
Italian Cypress
Tom Ford Black Orchid
Gucci by Gucci Pour Homme II

the above from stc.com

about $115 all up.

looking forward to trying all the above!

thanks for all your help guys!!

U shouldnt listen to the people the say BYREDO isnt good, Black Saffron is the effeminate version of Tuscan Leather therefore it is redundant. But go for Baudelaire, a very impressive classic leather scent - nothing extreme but very classy, refined, restrained and signature scent worthy. Tuscan Leather is the more balls-to-the-wall leather.
Add -
BYREDO - Baudelaire
BYREDO - Oud Immortelle
Amber Absolute - one of the best Ambers ever made
CREED Virgin Island Water - perfect for that Australian beach summer
TOM FORD - Cafe Rose
Maison Francis Kurkdjian Lumiere Noire Pour Homme
byKilian Sweet Redemption
byKilian A Taste of Heaven
byKilian Back To Black
Frederic Malle French Lover - great vetiver woody frag
Xerjoff - Uden
Xerjoff - Modoc
Xerjoff - Mamluk - if you love cloyingly sweet scents, though Im not too sure about that Australian heat
Amouage - Reflection Man - a sure fire winner, if u remotely like Le Male, u will love this one.

U dont have to sample everything in the world right now, but definitely keep these on your radar for future reference. Cheers
