What to Get My Dad for His Birthday

Thread Starter
Hey guys, my dad's birthday is on Monday and overheard him saying that he really wanted to get cologne. He normally doesn't wear fragrance, so I'm trying not to get him something too strong. He's turning 53, so I'm trying to find him something suitable for his age and lifestyle. He works at the harbor and lives on the beach. I gave him my sample of Bond no. 9's Wall Street and he really liked that. Perhaps I'll get him that one, but if you guys have any other suggestions please let me know!

From your description of where he lives and works, Heeley Sel Marin should be right Up his alley.

Is it bad that I want to say Aventus? For less, perhaps TdH or something like Mugler Cologne or OV.

Something fresh and open-air. But not marine - he's probably smelling rotten fish already. In addition to what already suggested, YSL Rive Gauche will work too.

Rive Gauche is an excellent suggestion, but I would also very strongly recommend, Creed Bois du Portugal. It is a masculine scent with a wonderful woodsy dry down and it is well liked by men 40 and over. Classy, woodsy, undeniably masculine. It is one of my signature scents.

+3 for the Rive Gauche PH

Terre d'Hermes Parfum
Creed Bois du Portugal

Got the Creed for my father-in-law and he loved it. Finished the bottle in 6 months.

Terre d'Hermes edt. Wall Street is awfully expensive. I'm 45, and I think TDH is a hip scent for that age.

Wall Street is a great scent, but make sure that he likes the much different drydown of it too, because it's a damn long one.

Also, Rive Gauche is a nice one.

Maybe think about New York by Nicolai. Great stuff!

Here are some birthday gift ideas from buzzlepuff Santa for your dad:

Voyage d' Hermes. It refers to the ocean in its composition and has a sea voyage worthy bottle.

Creed Royal Oud - spice, oud, masculine and has the aura of the Creed name with its commissions from royalty etc.

Declaration L' Essence - just smells great, woody, with a slight oceanic feel.

Heely Sel Marin - smells very much like a harbor, ocean air and all.

Whatever you get him, make sure it's something you would like to have, just in case he gives it to you. He doesn't, like fragrances, so it could be regifted back to you.

Yet another vote for Rive Gauche

Maybe also Voyage d'Hermes (I guess, both concentrations are to be tested).
