I do sort of agree with Greyland however all I got from it was cumin.

You limited it from the things that Montale actually does right...

Dark Aoud

Montale is known for oud. So why Montale if you seek other notes? Just curious.

Patchouli leaves
Attar
SOD

I think I like some of their "non aoud" releases better than many of their ouds.

Blue Amber, Sweet Oriental Dream, Patchouli Leaves, Red vetiver and Vanilla Absolu are amongst my favourites.

Greyland and Patchouli Leaves. I used to like Blue Amber as well but lately I can't stand its massive sweetness...

Black Musk
Velvet Flowers
Louban
Soleil De Capri
Greyland

Not that there's anything wrong with just reading the title and not the original post, I do it myself from time to time...

Just curious, I have Patchouli Leaves and get a lot of chocolate from it. I REALLY like it. Are these two scents fairly simular?

...thanks so far guys...!
The reason for asking for the best of Montale without the aoud-, and leather-dominated scents is that I am not really impressed by the smell of these substances (to put it euphemistically) and that both smells are already represented in my wardrobe. So I consider that part of my olfactory journey as covered. Since I have the possibility to sample this brand Montale I wondered if it markets other interesting fragrances, preferably (a) masterpiece(s).

Red Vetyver is worth trying, it's similar to TdH.

NO Oud no leather limits Montale from like 500 frags to 2 or 3!! Seriously Louban is great brooding dusty rose, Aoud Forest has NO oud in it, and doesn't smell like a forest...fresh smell. Chocolate Greedy is incredible, but I wouldn't want to smell like Willie Wonka's Chocolate factory!

Then I would say you can safely pass over Montale, they don't have any "masterpieces"

Patchouli Leaves does have a certain cocoa vibe to it but Chocolate Greedy does not have the camphor in it. It's just a very dry cocoa

The only ones I have tried are Black Aoud and Full Incense. I'm not ready for Black Aoud but I really liked Full Incense. I recently purchased 28 Montale samples and according to tracking, they were delivered to my home this morning. Unfortunately I am on the road until Friday. Looking forward to the weekend!

Full Incense is a great fragrance that is in the same vein as CDG's Avignon. Avignon is a little more straightforward Catholic Church incense and a little more dry than Full Incense.

I like Red Vetiver, Black Musk, Wood & Spices, Mango Manga and Pure Gold
