Hi, everyone! I'm new to Basenotes. Just registered about an hour ago, so this is my first ever post.
Yesterday I received in the mail some gourmand scents that I'm looking at getting for the upcoming winter season:
Givenchy Play Intense
Givenchy Very Irresistible
Animale Animale
Rochas Man
Angel Men
The closest I have to anything gourmand or good for winter is either Armani Code (which I see as more of cold weather, indoor fragrance) or Burberry London. So I'm looking for something a bit different, something with chocolate and coffee, maybe with a bit of vanilla. A warm mocha/espresso vibe for a night in with the lady would be nice.
Anyway, back to my samples...
I'd heard good things about Play Intense, but I can barely smell it on my skin, so I can't really tell if I like it or not.
Very Irresistible is my least favorite of the bunch. I hate the opening and I don't get any of the hazelnut people always talk about. I really don't like it at all.
Animale Animale does smell a bit like Angel Men, like I'd heard it would. But it's fruitier. There must be a citrus note (pineapple, I think) in there that somewhat ruins it for me. Makes it smell just... Very strange.
My favorite of the bunch are Rochas Man and Angel Men (which I know will probably get some hate for the tar note). I'm sure we all know what these smell like already. The tar note in Angel Men was slightly off putting at first, but it quickly settled down and I knew it was something I could definitely get past. Rochas Man is just exquisite.
Anyway, my question is... Of my two favorites, Angel Men and Rochas Man, which should I get and why? Or should I get one of the others I sampled? And why should I get that one instead? What are your opinions on the scents I chose to sample? Should I get something completely different altogether?
Finally... I am wearing both Rochas Man and Angel Men as we speak. I actually layered them one on top of the other and now I smell absolutely divine. Would anyone recommend doing this out in the real world? Why or why not? What are your two cents?
Sorry for such a long post and for asking so many questions! I'm just really excited to be here! Really looking forward to everyone's responses!
