Solid, Versatile, All-Season Designer Fragrances

Hello, I've been really getting into the world of fragrances over the past year or two and would like to know if I have all the seasons, time of day and occasions covered (in your opinion) with my relatively modest collection!

Bear in mind I'm at university so I can't really afford to have the envious collection I see most on here have!

Boss Bottled
YSL La Nuit de L'Homme
Viktor & Rolf Spicebomb
Bleu de Chanel
Armani Acqua di Gio
Chanel Allure Homme Sport

I've definitely got the cold nights covered with La Nuit and Spicebomb, also got warm days sorted with di Gio and AHS. Boss Bottled and Bleu are my versatile go-tos when I can't decided on the occasion or weather. I was wondering if anyone could recommend a designer cold weather daytime fragrance and possibly a summer night one too as I'm not sure that AHS is really a night time fragrance.

Any help or recommendations would really be appreciated!

Forgot to add, I was thinking of either Burberry London or Chanel Allure for a winter daytime fragrance.

As I understand London is much more suited to winter but has longevity problems and Allure is more versatile?

We seem to have very different tastes as I own only one of the scents on your list, but bearing that in mind, I have found Terre d'Hermès one of the most versatile scents on the market, so I recommend it for trial if you have not already.

Well, some of the Dsquared2 fragrances might be interesting... Rocky Mountain Wood I think is the most versatile thing imaginable, and quite interesting at that, but that's just me. I find it a tad dull (but I say that about most things) and slightly lacking in projection (I preffer sillage monsters) so haven't bought it. Can be found for a most affordable price.
I think it really fits whatever I wrote about it in a little review....walking around a almost cold spring or autumn day in the woods etc.

I think Chanel Allure is a good choice though it's underrated here on the board. Rive Gauche pour homme by Yves Saint Laurent would be another good choice to smell. It has a masculine, barbershop type smell that works day/night. So would Dior Homme Intense or the sport edition.

Cold Weather Day Time: L'Occitane Eau des Baux or Rochas Man
Summertime Night: Hanae Mori (HM)

As a bonus I will recommend Mugler Cologne and Prada Amber Pour Homme as both are great for all-season all purposes.

Thank you for your responses!

I went to my local department store today and they didn't have Burberry London so I tested Allure Homme. The opening seemed to be quite fresh but the cedar and tonka bean drydown won it for me, I seem to be a sucker for the Chanel line, probably because their fragrances are versatile.

From your responses I will definitely be checking out Terre d'Hermès and Prada Amber, also I'll have to find somewhere on the high street that stocks Burberry London.

Dior Homme is what you're missing! Get it and you will have a solid collection Dior Homme fits perfectly in all seasons and occasions except for maybe summer days.

In the Chanel line, I'd check Egoiste (the regular Egoiste, not the platinum version), a smooth, warm sandalwoody scent that's suited for many occasions - it is elegant, but can be worn also during the day.

I'd also look for some old classic, for instance Caron pour un homme, lavender-vanilla, simple and as classic as it gets.

Believe it or not I used to own a bottle of DH before it got reformulated (I think it got reformulated?), this was a few years ago when I was 15-16.

Unfortunately it evokes too many memories from that time period and that was before I knew anything about fragrances, I feel that there are more youthful and versatile fragrances out there than DH that I haven't tried yet!

Two excellent suggestions from my friend, cacio. So, +1! However, Egoiste may be a little mature for you - but still a good suggestion. Platinum Egoiste may also be a nice choice (but please note that the two fragrances are totally different and really a marketing goof by Chanel to not come up with an entirely different name).

I would add to this a recommendation a "solid, versatile, all-season" fragrances to be (keeping in mind your age) -

John Varvatos (Classic)
Hugo by Hugo Boss
Diesel Plus Plus Masculine
Zirh Ikon - perhaps three-season and more for the cooler weather, but a great cheap scent in the realm of incense
and another vote for Terre d'Hermes

I saw Platinum Egoiste at the Chanel counter today but I was too busy being 'Allured' towards Allure to pay it much attention.

As I said I'm a stickler for Chanel so I'll definitely add it to my list to try!

I will jump on the bandwagon and give a thumbs up to Terre d'Hermes.

You may also want to try Gucci Pour Homme II - this is a great fall fragrance. Others that wouldn't set you back too much are Dirty English and Gucci Pour Homme I (if you can still find it).

I also love most Chanel offerings - Sycomore and Egoiste are tops in the colder weather. If Sycomore is a little steep, you could go with Encre Noire.

Allure Homme is de-lish! The Chanels you like are Jacques Polge creations - with that in mind, Chanel Pour Monsieur Concentree is a must-try.
