Highly reviewed fragrances that you dislike?

Thread Starter
This is a play on the other thread "Poorly reviewed fragrances that you like?" I'd like to hear which positively reviewed fragrances in the community that you absolutely dont like at all! (If you like them all, feel free to move on! )

For me, it's easy. Two stand out above the rest. Creed Aventus and Terre d'Hermes.

Aventus is putrid. Its like an overripe rotting pineapple with the most annoying smoky note that i've ever smelled. I bought a 10ml decant of one of the "good batches" and have wore it on 3 separate occasions. All 3 times I have regretted it hours later.

Terre D'Hermes smells like a hamster cage. I like cedar but there is just something off about this one. Pretty sure it's the ISO E Super.

Speaking of ISO E Super,... Dirty English is stomach turning. Wont even talk about that one anymore because I dont want to throw up.

I have always been hating on PR 1 million and Armani Black code but thats just me
post #3 of 153
Hands down it has to be:
Terre D' Hermes EDP

Just terrible stuff!
Never got on with Fahrenheit.
La Nuit and Terre DHermes. I don't dislike them, but I'm nuetral on them.
Most recent for me was Midnight in Paris EDP. My wife and I both agreed it was the worst fragrance ever on me. Just completely overpowering powder and rubber. I can handle powder, but oh man, that awful rubber note....it was just all-consuming and made my stomach turn. :-(

Dirty English, Sex Appeal, Nightflight, Obsession, Safari, Michael, L'Essence de Cerruti, Ikon, Eau de Cartier, Tomorrow, Black Suede Touch, The Dreamer, Citrus & Wood, Bogart pH, Bergamotto Marino, Everlast Original, ST Dupont pH.

Tauer's L'air du desert marocain. My skin pulled the amber and nothin' but the amber, and I was surrounded by a sickeningly oppressive cloud of AAMMMMBERRRRR!!! all day, with the promised "mysterious spices of the Orient" and "smoke on the desert wind" conspicuously absent. As my partner said, "What is that you're wearing? It smells like old ladies dipped in industrial waste."

I've also been pretty disappointed in most of the CdG I've tried, but maybe it was more exciting back when fragrance tech wasn't so universally used in everyday home products.

Escada Magnetism

Some Creeds, Penhaligons Hammam Bouquet, Dior Homme (though I enjoy DHI).

Terre d'Hermes -- I've worn it numerous times, but I'm just not a fan of its bathroom cleaner vibe.

Also, douchebag/air freshener scents, like La Nuit de L'Homme EDT and Aventus -- I've worn these two (even ordered a decant and an official sample) and have smelled them on other people, and they're just both terrible synthetic scents.
Almost everything by Bond No.9 just smells "off" to me, not sure what it is, but not a single one of their scents agrees with me.
I'm neutral on LIDG but I've only worn it once.

For comparisons sake, take LIDGE and picture it as this well made pasta with sweet marinara sauce along with small diced tomatoes and exquisite parmesan cheese. LIDG is naked cold spaghetti to me. I'm going to give it a proper wear (four days in a row) next week though so hopefully I change my mind.

Aramis
Tiffany For Men
Black Orchid
Guerlain Vetiver
Rose 31
Hmm. I've only sampled a few dozen and haven't really come across anything that's repulsive to me. But I'm not a fan of Ambre Precieux, La Nuit, Real Patchouly and Mona Di Orio's Vetyver and LDDM.

LDDM might be the only one that I actually really dislike.
Anything with a lot of oud or vetiver.

Anything with a lot of oud or vetiver.
Another one I had forgotten about - I thought Chanel's Cuir de Russie was absolutely disgusting.
A great many of them. Though I wouldn't always go so far as to say I dislike them. Usually I just don't find them very exciting. The whole YSL l'homme thing, among many other BN fads make me go 'bwa?' when I smell the fragrance itself.
JUB XXV- only worn once, discovered I don't like frankincense

Not a fan of LDDM as well. Its incense note gives me that 60's hippie vibe.

I'm curious why? I just ordered a sample of this.
A few already mentioned that I don't actively dislike, but still leave me completely cold (La Nuit, Aventus, TDH). Not overly keen on Dior Homme. The only two that I have always found absolutely repugnant are Fahrenheit and Musc Ravageur.
Lidge, Terre de Hermes, Encre Noir, Yatagan, Hermes Equipage, Hermes Bel Ami
post #25 of 153
There's a few that the enthusiasts seem to love ...

Terry 'ermies
Creed Greed Irish Tweed
Creed Aventus
Guerlain Vetiver
M7
Spice Bomb

I really don't like any of them.

At.

All.
Aventus and TdH don't work for me either. I'd say those are my top two. Also:

Tobacco Vanille and Tuscan Leather: while I love many of Tom Ford's fragrances, these are both too literally realistic to me. I don't want to smell like pipe tobacco or a leather sofa.

And Ken: I was a little repulsed by Cuir de Russie the first couple of times I smelled it. I'm sure I even wrote here about the "dirty hair" smell. Now I can't get enough of it. Tastes change!
YSL Pour Homme Haute Concentration, extra powerful and sharpppppppp citrusy to me.
Joop! Homme really makes me mad!
One Million is just terrifying!
Dior Leather Oud. That stuff smells like s#!%. Seriously.
Terre d'Hermes
Encre Noire
Fahrenheit
Green Irish Tweed (can't say I really dislike this one, but *highly* overrated)
I greatly dislike Chergui. Not sure if it's the honey notes or what, but something about it reminded me of garbage.
Montale Black Aoud - can't take rose based fragrances. They smell like my grandma... literally, my grandma wore rose based fragrances.
Aramis New West for Him, Caron L'Anarchiste, Gucci Envy for Men, and Versace Black Jeans come to mind. I think these are all pretty favorably reviewed.
DHI is not appealing to me
Many: Fahrenheit...Antaeus...Aventus...AdG...Guerlain's Vetiver...Knize Ten...

Most of these, I can at least see why others like them...they just didn't work for me.
A*Men and Le Male take top billing for me, although both are pretty polarizing. Don't think much of Acqua di Cuba by SMN (smells like stale spit to me), Amouage Gold Men, many Montales, nearly all Bond 9's, Aventus and Erolfa by Creed, Canali Men, and Frank No. 2 by Frank Los Angeles. Creed Green Irish Tweed and Cool Water fall into the overrated and overplayed pile for me.
A*Men Les Parfums de Cuir Thierry Mugler for men

Patent Leather, rubber, and something sweet that will not wash off even after 24 hours and two showers.
Pure Malt, Pure Havanne, Allure Homme Sport. Nothing worth bragging about in my opinion.
Egoiste has something in it I don't like. Don't get the hype.
Encre Noir by Lalique
Sycomore by Chanel
Allure Homme Sport by Chanel
The Dreamer by Versace
La Nuit de L'Homme by YSL
Fahrenheit by Christian Dior
Terre d'Hermes and Egoiste for sure.

Also Sycomore, Carnal Flower, L'instant De Guerlain Pour Homme Extreme, Ambre Sultan

Never understood these and I keep on sampling them.

I sometimes wonder if the popularity of some scents are due to the consequences of pluralistic ignorance.
Easy one...dhi. I'm convinced the idea behind that frag was conceived in a bar with 2 drunken businessmen who were having a bet on if they could create and produce the worlds ugliest feminine scent and sell it to men. Hats off to their clever marketing!
Musc Ravageur...smells like an old lady's ass powder and Nivea face cream. No thanks
post #43 of 153
Chergui
Ambre Sultan
Musc Ravageur
Timbuktu
I suppose there's no real upside in being an online hater but, wth, since you asked, I find both Terre and Green Irish Tweed to be kind of massively disgusting.
The only one that comes to mind is La Nuit de L'Homme by YSL. Just far to sweet.

Now if we're talking about fragrances we don't really get why they are so highly rated, then the list will probably expand a bit.
Sycomore ... I had a head cold when I sampled it and I am certain it gave me a piercing headache. Which is strange because I get along well with Timbuktu.
Well there are many of those but to start with :
1. JPG Le Male
2. Cool Water
3. AdG
4. 1 Million
5. Aramis
There's something about Knize Ten that grates on my senses...industrial shoe polish?
One of the top notes in Sycomore makes me very unhappy.
Something in YSL Rive Gauche pour Homme triggers my gag reflex. Seriously.
Grey flannel tops my list
Then ADG just because 3 of my coworkers bath in it everyday
post #52 of 153
LDDM
Musc Ravageur
Chergui
Dior Leather Oud
Chanel Cuir de Russie

LDDM
Musc Ravageur
Chergui
Dior Leather Oud
Chanel Cuir de Russie
Musc Ravageur - don't like it!

I'll stick to MKK
Sycomore
Rose 31
Domenico Caraceni 1913
Millesime Imperial
Tabarome
I really dislike Millesime Imperiale and Terre d'hermes.
Aventus...it smells like my late beloved grandmother and her attic...!
Guerlain Habit Rouge - armpits and baby powder
Frédéric Malle Vetiver Extraordinaire - musty vegetation
Jean Paul Gaultier Le Male - plastic flowers in Lavender
post #58 of 153
Lately:

4. Terre d'Hermes. Used to like it, but now it just smells . . . off . . . to me.
3. Invasion Barbare. Acrid and unpleasant.
2. Parfums de Nicolai New York. Turin be damned, powdery, smelly orange is not for me.

And the current (and forever) winner . . .

1. Creed Aventus. This scent utterly baffles me. I don't smell anything good in it, and no one around me, when I wore it a few times, liked it even a little bit. And it's not just a single bad batch; I've tried at least three separate batches.
Ou yeah that 2, i cant stand Farenheit
Dirty English- the most disgusting fragrance I've smelled.
Antaeus - can't get into it,the opening notes are not on my taste.
