What do you think is the best of these legendary fragrance? Vintage formulation
post #2 of 20
This question should have a specification of vintage, since all of them have changed over time. In the current state, I voted for Jicky. But HB vintage is glorious - as is of course Mitsouko.

IMO Shalimar is the best.

For me, Jicky--by far.

My wife would say Shalimar.

I voted for Shalimar under the guise that the others were not vintage, though I love them all.

Wore Jicky EdP again yesterday. It's just as edgy and beguiling as it was the first time I tried it, hell since 1889 probably.

(Voted with PdT in my mind, since I've never come across vintage EdP. Amazing stuff!)

In other news, I just so do not get L'Heure Bleue.

Vintage:

1 Mitsouko / Shalimar / L'Heure Bleue
2 Jicky / No. 5

I meant to say all vintage juice

although I vastly prefer No 5 in parfum to all those above mentioned Guerlains

Mitsouko EDP would be my preferred choice since No 5 EDP is a disaster.

But if it was a parfum battle with VdN

it would go

1. Vol de Nuit

2. No 5
3. Mitsouko
4. L'Heure Bleue
5. Shalimar
6. Jicky

A second Paris, I unhesitatingly give the golden apple to the goddess Jicky. She is sublime.

From the list, I'd say No. 5 - 80s EdP.
The newer Guerlain EdPs listed are ok, but the PdTs are sublime.
Now, if you wanna talk vintage extrait, well...

Gardens, I also love them all. I can't choose. That is like saying you want to eat Chinese food every night. Sometimes you want French food, and sometimes Mexicain, and sometimes a hamburger.

I can't decide which one of these classics is the best.

+1 on asking where is Vol de Nuit. I was my SOTD twice this week.

I love these fragrances but vintage Shalimar EDP just does it for me.

No Vol de Nut? Vintage Vol de Nuit pure parfum is heavenly.

I have spent the most on vintage Guerlains.

I said Jicky, because that is the one that is closest to its potential in EdP (I.e. relatively recent vintages).

if we're talking about the vintage Guerlain Parfum de Toilettes, that's a tougher call. I have Jicky, Shalimar, and Mitsouko in this version and they are all fantastic.

If you include the vintage parfums, I only have Shalimar, and its hard to imagine anything better than that.

No. 5 is alright.

On the basis vintage at its time... I voted for L'Heure Bleue EdP. It's FORMIDABLE! Today's is crap in comparison. Shalimar? Only vintage ( really old) extrait for me please? Jicky I LOVE big time in today's extrait and EdP formulation, the PdT was outstanding, extreme, but also extremely good . Mitsouko is the least of the great Guerlain classics to me. Vol de Nuit vintage extrait is the quintessential classic Guerlain to me.

Vintage:

Jicky / Shalimar / Mitsouko
Why must there be a winner? They are all so very different from each other, and all so very very good (I'm talking about the vintage fragrances here).

Judging the non-vintage, mostly EDT formulations I have smelled it's

L'Heure Bleue & Mitsouko > Jicky > Shalimar > No 5
