If you can choose ONLY one bottle from the Private Blend line what would it be?
I'm probably alone on my choice, but i've purchased many, and tried almost all. Wonderful line, but Champaca Absolute is my favorite
post #3 of 43
I guess would be TV

Tuscan Leather

Moss Breches. Also like Neroli Portofino, Amber Absolute, and Tobacco Vanille.

I think the Tom Ford Private Blend line is overrated, particularly given the price.

The packaging is terrific and well art directed and there is that magnetic draw to all things TF as being a signifier of sleek and cool, but the fragrances themselves seem lacking relative to the amazing offerings to be found at the same price point. Don't get me wrong: they aren't terrible (except "Noir" which is just inexcusably boring given the potential of that moniker in the hands of TF - great bottle though...), but I don't think they'd stand up in a blind side-by-side with other notables that cost the same or even less. They really aren't that daring or bold, and certainly are not as evocative as their names. I really wanted to love them all, but...no.

That said, I voted for "Tuscan Leather" because it is the most interesting of the bunch and one I could find myself reaching for, although never for that price. It's just not that special.

LA2000, with more than 20 fragrances, quality control has sometimes slipped and there are certainly "fillers" in the line that are outrageously overpriced. Still, there are are gems there, sadly one of them is gone now; the wonderful and strange Moss Bretches. I have never found anything like it, it was one of the true originals of the line.

Of those I've tried, it was a close run thing between Italian Cypress (Mrs JTB's favourite 'date scent'), Oud Wood, and Tuscan Leather.

I finally went for Oud Wood 'just because'

I think Tobacco Vanille is easily my favorite, but none of the line is FBW at their lofty price tags, IMO.

Next to AA I would choose Urban Musk: a truly unique very nice scent on my skin.
AA for me. Very similar to 24Gold which I own and love.
Tuscan Leather, no contest.
Tobacco Vanille, although Tuscan Leather is close behind.
So many great ones - I had a hard time choosing between AA, Bois Marocain, NdN, Neroli Portofino, and TV. I decided to go with TV.

Also love Champaca Absolute, Black Violet, and Moss Breches too.

A great lineup for sure.

Tuscan Leather and it's the only one I own. If they were half the price I would be exploring the line with a lot more interest. I would like to buy Amber Absolute but with it being discontinued and the price being so high it hardly seems worth it.

Tobacco Vanille is the ultimate fragrance in my opinion. Divine smell, incredible utility and versatility. Lasting power is immense. I mean they really hit it out the ballpark with this one.

Lavender Palm, one of Yann Vasnier's creations.
Tough one, I would have to choose between tuscan leather, oud wood and tobacco vanille. My vote goes to oud wood.
I like a lot of the PBs very much, but my favorite is Cafe Rose.

Of the ones listed, I'd choose Japon Noir.
Tobacco Vanille
Tusc Leather
I find NdN to be the gem in his line, but Tuscan Leather and Amber Absolute would come in after that.
Neroli Portifino. The runner up would be Tuscan Leather.
Tobacco Vanille followed by Neroli Portofino
post #24 of 43
Tobacco Vanille, followed by Noir de Noir, then Oud Wood. My wife likes Neroli Portofino.

THIS!

I own Noir de Noir in FB, and have a small decant of Tuscan Leather. Only yesterday I tested almost all of the Private Blend fragrances when I went to Bloomingdales, but they all come a cropper when one factors in the price. I still love Noir de Noir, but you can find a spicy rose fragrance just as good as NdN at half the price (Ormonde Jayne's Ta'if, Rosine's Rose Kashmerie). A lot of his latest offerings have either been unmitigated duds or just plain mediocre, or worse, very generic smelling.

Noir de Noir would've be my second choice.

I would say that TV is my favorite, but given the not so amazing bottles and the price, I would never own anything other than a decant (which I do).

Santal Blush.
By the way, has anyone seen the preview of the new 'mysterious' TF on 1000fragrances? Apparently, it something very dark and very very good. be still my heart..
I echo the sentiments regarding the price. I'm a big fan of the Tom Ford Private Blend and love a lot of their fragrances, but at $205 for 50 ml (not including sales tax), it's just over priced in my opinion. That's why I've gotten all of my bottles via splits or from eBay.

My favorite PB is Noir de Noir. I really like a bunch of others though as well: Tobacco Vanille, Oud Wood, Amber Absolute, and Italian Cypress.

Mine is Tobacco Vanille. While I really enjoy NDN I find that it is really not something that is easy to wear casually.
My son likes Tuscan Leather
For me, TV is the only one worthy of purchase.
None, actually wanting to trade the few I own.

Which ones do you own?
My favourite is tobacco vanille, just because I haven't found such a strong vanilla scent that projects so well in my skin.
Noir de noir, followed by tusc leather
Chose Tuscan Leather but also love Tobacco Vanille
post #38 of 43
Personally, I thnik the TFPB is worth every single penny. Just shows how subjective fragrance is. Tough choice, but I voted for Oud Wood. I've not smelt a TFPB that I didn't absolutely love. Possibly my favourite house/line ATM.
For me it is Tuscan leather. Noir de Noir and Tobacco Vanille is the second (and third) option after TL.
OW >TL > TV > AA. Would like to try a few more though.
Happy to see Tobacco Vanille was at the top of the list. It is my favorite from the Tom Ford line.
Mine changes. I voted Italian Cypress, but in the past I've listed Tobacco Vanille as my favorite. I'm just on a Italian Cypress kick now.

Amber Absolute
