What's your favorite/best citrus scent?

Thread Starter
I'm in the market for seemingly everything to expand my collection these days, and citrus is no different. I have TdH and love it, but I'm looking for something else as well.

Regardless of my personal motivations, I'm interested to hear what your favorite citrus is. I know this comes up a lot, but I only found threads that were a few years old and wouldn't be up to date while searching.

So, what are you a fan of? It can be any price from a cheapy to something monumentally expensive if you so choose.

the best citrus I've tried so far is Hermés Concentré d'orange verte
post #3 of 55
Xerjoff 1861 is the most natural, rich, and tenacious citrus I have ever had the pleasure of smelling. Nio is wonderful too if a little overpriced.

Acqua di Parma Colonia

Xerjoff 1861
Acqua di Parma Colonia Assoluta

Sauvage Extreme
Armani PH

Creed Orange Spice. Never get tired of this one.
My favourite citrus of the ones I have smelt is Bigarade Concentrèe. But I hear nothing but good things about Orange Sanguine.
Bergamote 22 -- complex, musky citrus
Dolce & Gabbana Pour Homme (Vintage) -- citrus + spices and tobacco

Guerlain Homme L'Eau
Eau de Patou by Jean Patou
Acqua di Colonia
Lorenzo Villoresi
I second the Concentrée d'Orange Verte. Other very good citrus frags are Jardin du Nil and Orange Sanguine
post #13 of 55
ADP Colonia, Armani Eau pour Homme, YSL pour Homme

It's easily Eau de Guerlain - everything else pales in comparison and that includes Acqua Di Parma, Monsieur Balmain, etc. To me it's really hugely underrated with great longevity which is unusual for what is, essentially, an eau de cologne. Whether it's the caraway or verbena - I don't know, but it's one of my all-time-favourites.

For a more regular edc - Jean Maria Farina Extra Vieille from Roget et Gallet is pretty good, although more conventional- and it doesn't have the longevity. But it's inexpensive enough to spritz all day long.

However, the Don of the cheapies is one I bought in a Spanish supermarket (1 euro 50 for 80mls) - the brand is called Gotas Frescas Agua de Colonia Concentrada by Instituto Espagnol. This is nuclear powered edc - and cheap enough to bathe in. Strangely, a Spanish colleague wears it too, although I didn't know it until we compared notes - but sadly it's virtually impossible to get outside Spain. Next time I go I'm going to purchase a container load.

It is beautiful. Overall, I feel that Creed does a nice job with citrus in general. Many of their frags have absolutely wonderful citrus openings, that for me at least, linger into the mid notes, and often, into the base as well.
For me there's no doubt: the best citrus is Chanel Eau de Cologne.

Xerjoff 1861

Creed - Jardin d' Amalfi
For lemon...Eau Sauvage, L'Eau Par Kenzo, Dior Homme Sport, Acqua Di Parma Assoluta
For Orange...Eau D'Orange Verte
No idea about a lime fragrance.
Creed Citrus Bigarrade. Unfortunately, no longer available.
Profumum - Acqua Viva
One of my favorites - Monsieur Balmain
I absolutely love Creed's Original Vetiver.

Also gotta mention Caron's L'Anarchiste, Cartier Declaration and L'eau D'Issey.

All have really nice citrus notes.
Jardin d'Amalfi probably sits on the top of the Citrus Mountain IMO.

However, I do find the lemon in Chanel Allure Homme Edition Blanche to be amazing. Also the orange in Chanel Allure Homme Sport. And I wouldn't want to forget the Lime/Grapefruit of Clive Christian 1872. And for a deeper lemon, Annick Goutal's Les Nuits d'Hadrien is magical.

Eau de Guerlain
Chanel Eau de Cologne
Eau de Rochas pour Homme (not EDR Homme)
Signoricci 2 (vintage)
Eau Sauvage (vintage)
Eau du Coq
Lime, Basil & Mandarin
There are just so many great lemon scents but money and good sense dictate I can't have them all. I rate the following all very highly

Eau Sauvage
ADP Colonia, Assoluta
Eau de Rochas Homme
L'Eau par Kenzo
Dior Homme Sport
Chanel Allure Sport Edition Blanche

Wish I could have them all.
+1 Eau de Guerlain

+1 vintage Signoricci 2, my personal favourite but it's a bit on the pricey side.

Also I'll take this oppertunity to put in a shout for Goutal's Eau de Hadrien and Eau de Sud, and for something less pricey YSL's Pour Homme and PH Concentree are both pretty good. Allure is probably worth a test as well.
Of the ones I own I have to say Cerruti 1881, Eau D'Orange Verte and Live Jazz. If I had to pick one of those it would be 1881 for it's longevity and versatility compared to the others.

This is the one. I have been close to pulling the trigger on a purchase several times. Maybe I will buy myself an extra Christmas gift.

Agreed.

Uh . . . catchy name. Seriously tho, thanks for the heads up. Would love to try some day. Longevity decent? Omg that's 2.5 cents per ml. Value!

Piment Brulant - citrus and bell peppers
Cacharel pour homme - citrus and nutmeg
I don't have many citrus scents but Bleu de Chanel is the one that I've been rocking in the warmer weather. Also enjoy L'Homme by YSL which also has some citrus.
Penhaligons Blenheim Bouquet.

Citrus and lavender to start, and pine, pepper and musk for the rest of the day.
My vote for Eau de Rochas Homme and for the beautiful Eau d'Hadrien.
I discovered recenlty Versense pour femme, truly lovely lemon note there
post #37 of 55
So, when people say citrus, do they really mean lemon?

Guerlain Pamplelune
Crown Spiced Limes
I love PdN's Balle de Match. A grapefruit, oakmoss and woods composition as beautifully balanced and dry (and nearly as tenacious) as its name is unfortunate.
Another favorite that hasn't been mentioned is Annick Goutal's Eau du Sud, which is lemon and herbs. Very nice on a hot day and again surprising longevity for a citrus.

Eau de Patou
Eau de Guerlain
Philtre d'Amour (Guerlain)
Bergamote (The Different Company)
Colonia (Acqua di Parma)
Acqua di Colonia (Lorenzo Villoresi)
Bigarade Concentree (Frederic Malle)
Have to go with Bergamatto Marino.
I really like Imperial Lime from the Anglia Perfumery (formerly Crown). It's not particularly commercial and is a bit old-fashioned. Very clean lime peel scent and it lasts for about 5 hours on me. Think Edwardian barber shop in St. James's.

Eau de Guerlain
Grey Vetiver and Bleu de Chanel both have fantastic citrus openings.
IMO Eau Sauvage (incl. 100% Glacon), Jo Malone's Lime, Basil & Mandarin, AdP Colonia Intensa and Dior Homme Sport are all very nice. If you want lemon then look into Monsieur Balmain.

1. Creed Selection Verte
2. Hermes Concentre D'Orange Verte
3. Maitre Pour Le Jeune Homme
4. Parfums De Nicolai Cologne Sologne
5. Truefitt & Hill West Indian Limes

Those are my top 5 most worn/most liked Cutrus scents. Some other worthy CITRUS SCENTS (and not just scents with citrus) are:

Kilian Prelude To Love
Creed Scent of Oger
Brioni Eau De Parfum
Thirdman Eau Monumentale
Hermes Eau D'Orange Verte
Penhaligon's Eau De Cologne (anthology)
Guerlain Imperiale
Guerlain Cologne Du Parfumeur
Annick Goutal Eau D'Hadrien
PDN Balle De Match
Villoresi Acqua Di Colonia
Creed Citrus Biggarade
Trumper Extract of West Indian Limes
Bombay Sapphire Infusion
Acqua Di Parma Colonia
Creed Zeste Mandarine Pampelmousse
Atelier Orange Sanguine
Trumper Eau De Cologne
PDN Cedrat EDC
Syed Junaid Alam Raiq
Eau De Rochas Homme
Fresh Hesperides
Malle Cologne Bigarade
Roger & Gallet Extra Vieille
Chanel Eau De Cologne
Chanel Allure Cologne Sport
Jacques Fath Green Water
4711

If we include fruity/fresh/floral/oceanic scents with a little Citrus to compliment them, that still have an overall "citrussy attitude":
I then include:

Cereus #4, Dior Homme Cologne, M7 Fresh, Eau Sauvage, Bleu De Chanel, Amouage Arcus, Amouage Ciel, Rasasi Al Wisam White, Montale Boise Fruite, Xerjoff Mefisto, Silver Mountain Water, Original Vetiver, GIT, Erolfa, Millesime Imperial, VIW, Aventus, Mugler Cologne, Sisley Eau De Campagne

I think "citrus" is really an excessively large category to have much meaning.

To take just one example, there are lots of lemon dominated colognes, lots of lime dominated colognes, lots of orange dominated colognes, and lots of Neroli dominated colognes. I think some would consider all of these citrus, but I wouldn't lump them together.

At the moment, using an expansive view of citrus, my fave is probably Chanel Eau de Cologne. If you don't consider Neroli citrus, then Hermes Concentre d'Orange Verte.
Tough tough call but i love the classy citrus notes in Tiffany for Men. The opening notes are lemon, tangerine, and rosewood. The projection, sillage and longevity are all solid for a lemony scent. Most lemony scents have low projection and longevity, ie. the beautiful Eau Sau Sauvage by Dior. This scent is a classy lemon creatd by a genius, Jaques Polge.

Another +1 on this comment, which I think ought to have been said, but I immediately thought of Eau Sauvage and stand by it. My favorite citrus scent ever.
