What next for my collection

Hello,
I'm pretty new to the world of fragrance, but after discovering this wonderful forum I'm finding plenty of excuses to spend money on building my collection.

I looking at adding another bottle or two and thought now might be a good time - especially if there are any good sale offers around.

I currently have...

  • Boss Bottled - have purchased a number of Boss fragrances over the years and tended to stick with them before disscovering this place.
  • Jazz - trying to recapture my 20's (I'm 44 now).
  • Aventus Creed - my first and only niche purchase. I got in on a BN split, having joined the site whilst looking for something special to wear on my wedding day in June this year. Absolutely love it but my budget really won't allow many niche purchases.
  • Thierry Mugler A*Men - was my back-up wedding day scent and one I really like.
  • Diesel Only the Brave - liked enough to purchase but not sure now. Hoping it might come into its own as a summer scent but could end up selling it on.
  • Bogart pour Homme - I wanted to try an inexpensive power house scent.
  • L'Occitane Eau des Baux - bought as a poor man's Tobacco Vanille which I loved (and will probably be my next niche purchase).
  • Thierry Mugler Pure Malt - asked for this as a Christmas Present and very impressed with it.


I'm still trying to learn about what I like and don't like (and how to describe that) but common notes in the above seem to be bergamot, tobacco, vanilla, tonka bean and others.

What should I go for next? Your recommendations would be welcome. Especially any (UK based) sale bargains.

Why not go British with Tempus Ludendi from Pell Wall Perfumes? Made in Shropshire!

"Precious woods enhanced with some very fine vanilla and ambergris. Overlaying these is a distinct tobacco and subtle cognac element keeping everything in balance. There are subtle notes of rose and orange blossom as well as spices and some low-key citrus, mint and lavender."

Certainly London would make a good choice, IMO. I personally prefer Costume National Homme to it, occupying a similar space (dark, warm spicy). Either should do the trick.

Either L'Instant de Guerlain pour Homme Extreme or Spicebomb. Stay away from L'Instant de Guerlain pour Homme, it doesn't sound like you'd like it.

From the suggestions you made I like Spicebomb the most. It's not such a "bomb" but I like the spices and the way the scent developes. Really wearable for many occasions. A 5-star scent for me!

London, LIDGE, and Spicebomb are great choices. You would probably be happy with any of these. I like Tom Ford Tobacco Vanille, but it is expensive. Samples can be acquired, and will last a while. I only need one spray with TV.

Le Male may not be your style. You could always try Perry Ellis 360 White and see how you like that. Much cheaper, and very similar to Le Male.

London & LIDGE are 2 of my absolute favorites, so I highly recommend them. I also agree that a little bit of Tobacco Vanille goes a long way. A 5-10 ml decant could last you quite a while.

Huh? You recommend LIDGE, but tell him to stay away from L'instant? Aren't they pretty much the same fragrance?

They're close but at the same time they aren't even in the same league. LIDG to me is way too citrusy and linear. I just get a much better experience with LIDGE.

Thanks for all the suggestions.
I think LIDGE is looking favourite at the moment - it's available for £42 in the Escentuals sale which seems a good opportunity. London or Costume National Homme won't be far behind though, and if I can find a customer to visit in the Shropshire area I will look forward to a smell of Tempus Ludendi.

go with Le Male, amazing scent. and also try Montblanc individual. i would def recommend Chanel Allure homme

Bumping this thread from a couple of months ago.
Based on the comments above I have subsequently purchased LIDGE and Costume National Homme, and also YSL La Nuit - all of which are keepers in my collection.
I'm also re-living some of my 80's youth with power house scents - I've added Azzaro, Lapidus and Smalto.
I'm now thinking a vanilla based scent might be to my liking, and Caron Pour Un Homme or Boucheron Jaipur seem to keep coming up as I research this. How do the two compare, and based on the rest of my wardrobe which would you recommend?
