Lady perfume traders? Anyone? *crickets*

I don't want to seem ungracious, because I have had so many excellent trades on Basenotes, but coming back to trading after a year or so away, I've noticed that there are a lot less women trading. Don't get me wrong, I have found some gorgeous perfumes from trades with male basenoters and am grateful, but I do lean more towards unisex or feminine fragrances and would love to find more women basenoters interested in trading.

tl;dr: Women basenote traders, where you at?

I have often wondered the same thing. I have done some trading, but largely with guys who have purchased ava-luxes and found them wrong with their chemistry. I have also felt a little skittish about setting prices on things I'd just like to unload. Ebay is much more anonymous and bidding sets the price, win, lose or draw.

Oh yes, definitely. When I sell perfume, I prefer to do it anonymously because wheeling and dealing can feel awkward with people I consider friends.

Men seem to have less worries about the "make an offer" thing. We worry that we will feel awkward and that people will be upset with us personally. I think that sort of sums up why fewer women list items, while plenty of us buy.

I agree 100%. I have felt this way myself?

Do you think the same reason is true, for women not trading? Even when there's no money involved and it's just a bottle for a bottle?

I can feel uncomfortable with having to decline perfume trade requests from men, though I want to be clear that it's never been because I felt pressured by any basenoter in particular. I do find myself going out of the way to politely decline a male basenoter's offer when I'm much more casual and relaxed with another woman.

yes, I would love to see more women here too. I am new to trading here, so I put unisex bottle up for swap first, but maybe I should also put there more female scents.

Yay Veroniche! I'd check out some scents of yours.

I like the format of the MUA swap board & also see more people swapping samples & decants there, rather than bottles. I don't swap bottles all that often. That being said, I am thinking of trying some ebay sales, as not as many people are swapping on MUA anymore for the newest high end fragrance decants, and I'm not getting many inquiries from swappers that can offer me items on my wishlist. I did like to use the Scentsplits wiki site back before it got too unwieldy, & then closed...

I sold some items on basenotes not too long ago -- 4 or 5 transactions were a pleasure, then, was scammed by a male Basenoter. I hate to have something like that sour my Basenotes experience, so in future I'll probably sell on eBay.

(by the way, latelittlesleeper, the link on your signature is "invalid". Unless that's just an iPad problem.)

Hi There!

I sell and swap on basenotes, just a few bottles from my wardrobe as my tastes evolve or blind buys that were not 'love' for me, but might be exactly what another basenoter is looking for!

I would love to see more female basenotes sellers and swappers!

I do tend to favour swaps with basenoters who already have feedback, as I am nervous of being scammed so I won't take the chance. I live in Ireland, which puts a lot of US swappers off, due to possible customs issues :-(

I've bought and sold on here without problems, but swapping is inherently harder-- you each have to want what the other has to offer. It's not as likely, especially on a forum that is mostly male (and I don't tend to wear masculine scants.)

As to buying and selling, eBay is a better venue for scents that have very limited appeal or discontinued fragrances that have appreciated in market value.

I buy and sell on BN but for swapping I mostly use MUA, because the format (searchable swaplists, wishlists, and notepads) makes it vastly easier to find a "match." It is more geared toward finding specific things you're interested in or that someone else wants. MUA is mostly women, so there are plenty of feminine fragrances--although it would be neat if more men used it.
