Clueless grad student

I've decided to step it up from my current collection (Aqua Di Gio, Curve, Cool Water)...

I'm looking for something I can wear to school on a daily basis. Can you suggest a masculine, alpha and unique cologne that will impress, but not give people headaches and get me kicked out of school?

Key word being masculine... Most of the cologne that I've sampled has either been too much (1 million & A*man for example), or kinda wimpy and feminine. What do you think is the perfect balance?

Welcome!

Not very easy to find, though not expensive when found, I'd suggest one of the classic Carons. Caron pour un homme is a classic lavender-vanilla and Troisieme homme is slightly sweet, musky, and with a touch of citrus.

Well, Aventus is a good choice generally. However, if you want to get more abstract, check out Honour Man by Amouage if you like woods. Creed Himalaya is another great daily wearer. It's a little "safe" for this crowd, but it's a killer and super versatile.

Aventus is pretty masculine...
Tobacco Vanille is awesome. Vanilla pipe tobacco.
Green Irish Tweed is safe, but classic and great manly scent.
Carbone de Balmain: surprised Hednic didnt rec this one. Flinty warm fragrance.
Sartorial: manly barbershop frag

Thanks for the advice all!

I ended up trying Burberry London, and buying a small bottle. It was basically just what I was looking for! I didn't get a chance to try all of them, but I'll keep my eyes out.

Oh, and a buddy of mine said YSL la nuit would be good. But don't you think that is more for going out?

I think Terre d' Hermes is good for you also.

But if you don't end up liking it, that's okay because fragrance is a personal journey.

Rive Gauche is a good choice too.

In the end though, masculinity and alpha-male can only be achieved by how you act. No fragrance can give you those qualities.

I agree with the Rive Gauche suggestions, and based on your criteria *highly* recommend trying VanCleef & Arpels pour homme. This one *will* be different than anything the other students are wearing, is masculine, says the wearer means business, and can be had for < $30 online.

Hey bro I am a 20 year old college student and have tried YSL la nuit for class. It is not overbearing if you do not overspray it. A couple sprays gets me compliments in class, but doesn't choke people out. It is more alpha male I'd say. IMO for our age, it is fine to wear on a cold fall or winter day. Other than that, night. It seems pretty versatile for a college student in the colder seasons.


Just my 2 cents, but I am a college student and can testify to you that the girls will enjoy it.
