Today I bought ~ January 2013

Thread Starter
It's a new month, a new year. I have a gift card and Christmas money that I'm dying to spend, but I can't quite decide between a few favorite fragrances. Soooo, tell me, tell me ... what have you bought this month?
I'm trying not to buy for 90 days!

I wonder how long
A) I will hold out
B) Before this thread becomes my version of porn?
I am trying to not buy as well. I might even try to sell off a few back up bottles of fragrances, though discontinued, that do not really need backing up any more. There are a lot of things I bought in the first throes of passion that I no longer wear with any regularity, or which were so darn reasonable that I stocked up as if I would get to love them....alas.

Anyway, if I had a wish list it would be:
Penhaligon's Night Scented Stock
Ellenisia
I came very close to giving these to myself as presents but abandoned the shopping cart every time!
Nothing yet this year. I'm waiting for something from ebay I bought before the end of the year. The first bid of the year was on an Amouage Gold man, though I doubt I'm going to win it.

I am wearing right now Angel Cuir, which I also purchased before the end of the year - and I'm considering whether to stock up.

I'm not buying (bought a couple in the sales).
I could not resist three deals on eBay. I bought a full bottle of Vintage Chanel no.19 EDP for $58 (I thought that was a great deal), a Vintage bottle of Hermes Amazone EDT for $28 (another good deal) and am bidding on a bottle of Kenzo Jungle PH for $16 (no other bidders yet and hope to win this beauty too). I don't have the money in my budget for these, but the sickness has gotten hold of me! I won't be buying anything else for a while!

thank you larimar, i went a bit overboard.
L, dior vetiver is one of the best vetivers i've tried so far. it's a perfectly executed, soft, refined vetiver, quite linear, what makes it unique is the coffee note which is not overly done and is integrated perfectly in its construction. it's not too green, but also not too woody or smoky (didn't detect any smoke), it uses very high quality ingredients and it shows. it has amazing longevity but it wears close to the skin and it doesn't over project which for some is a plus. i'd definitely recommend it to people who generally are afraid of or hate vetivers as a must try. this for me is a 'mature' vetiver, along the lines of let's say givenchy's vetiver, worn by an elegantly dressed/suited man in his 40's. i still have one or two 5ml official sample bottles i think, i'd be happy to send it to you, let me know.
Thanks danny! Vetiver is a note that is quite rapidly growing on me. Well, the mature Dior would have to do with me and my more casual jeans look. Hey, I'm still in my 30s!
Today I ALMOST bought a 15ml bottle of bois des iles parfum - outbid on ebay by £2 - grrr!

Bought a used 6.8 oz bottle of bois des iles edt instead, now I can spray my favourite fragrance with reckless abandon ;-)

My only other january perfume purchase was a 30ml bottle of samsara edp for €38 in the boots sale (not as 'loud' as I remember - it is almost subtle on me - love it).
I hadn't bought any perfume since summer - trying to keep my spending in check!
I used to wear Gai Mattiolo when it first launched (mid-90s, I think). I'd forgotten all about it until a recent glowing mention by a friend on another perfume board. If I'm remembering it right it was very pretty, along the lines of Allure. Found a one ounce bottle online for a tad over $20, so couldn't resist ordering it.

I received some Christmas cash which I think I will put towards a purchase of Vol de Nuit.
great choice tdem 1961!

I am not buying - I am not buying - I am not buying :-) YET!
I want to downsize my wardrobe now. Yet BEFORE Christmas I welcomed bottles of Shalimar Ode a la Vanille Madagascar, Loukhoum au Poudrée, Yvresse, My Queen.
I hope to get my beloved Rousse in a swap here - that would be my first new bottle of this year.
I found out that I could get Ineke Sweet William FB for $29.07 shipped and I snapped it up.Boxing day sale 30%off sale prices.
Tjmaxx -$5 Bijan for men- pine &carnation.Rather nice.

The Body SHoppe "Amber & Oud"

Hoping for Durbano White Crystal soon!
La Chasse Aux Papillons body butter 200ml. I own the EDT, but it's ever so fleeting that I thought perhaps layering would make it more potent. I guess I'll also pick up the body oil, if layering with the body butter doesn't sort out the projection and longevity issues.

Oh, and I also sold a 6.8oz bottle of Chanel's Coromandel for more than what I'd paid for it. It was a blind, impulse buy a year ago but patchouli is a note which doesn't agree with my skin. One of my new year resolutions is NOT to spend any more money on fragrances but to downsize my collection and use the money from the sales to get new fragrances.
I just received another bottle of vintage Cuir de Russie. It's in excellent condition, too.

I will be getting 5mls of Dior Oud Ispahan. There was a split more than a month ago but the girl who organizes didn't want the money earlier but at the moment when she'll be in Poland to visit her family and to post all decants here to make shipping cheaper. So spending money now counts as buying it
post #27 of 109
I bought Mirabella by DSH and Datura Noir by Serge Lutens a few days ago. DN arrived today and it's my SOTD. Mirabella will be waiting for me in SoCal.

I relapsed. Bought Molinard Nirmala yesterday.
I recieved a edt bottle of BBW Cashmere Glow for Christmas (was wishlist-nice apricot/vanilla/amber with a bit of woods musk)but when I went to uncap and spray some the entire spray sheared off! So it would have to go back . Any edt is WAY too strong to have the whole bottle open like that so like any good perfumista I promptly dumped the contents into a clean empty stopper bottle I had sitting around.
I took the stoppered bottle in with me along with the broken original and the store gave me store credit for the regular price of the bottle and I got to keep the old juice !
So I used the credit to get some Orange Sapphire shower gel, (3-4)Forever Sunshine gels,a lotion and a shower gel of Lemon Vanilla,an Oak shower gel and body spray. The Citron was kind of nice too -I may go back for that.

Thanks for the encouragement Cello :-) I already have a 75ml of bois des iles I bought in july, but I wear it several days every week so I'm draining it faster than any perfume I've ever owned! I love catching little whiffs of it throughout the day. I will eventually get a bottle of the parfum.

We have a few likes in common cello - bois des iles, cuir de russie, iris poudre & cadjmere to name a few!

I found these bottles at a flea market last weekend.
Most of them modern bottles, but one is particularly
interesting. A 50ml bottle of vintage Ô Intense, EdP.

... yes, the deo stick is sealed! So is the soap bar!

Total blind buy on the Kenzo .Based on glowwing reviews Youtube Teresa and Basenotes'Ducky get the blame or praise for this one.

I already own a 100ml bottle of this, but I stumbled upon a brand new 50ml bottle on ebay for a great price. I couldn't resist.

Frederic Malle Le Parfum de Therese

I'm staying strong. No purchases in January so far. Though the samples I ordered before the end of last year are arriving regularly so will keep me out of mischief
post #41 of 109
I spent my Christmas gift certificate to Love Potions - a little nervous about trying pheromones. I love sexy fragrances, but pheromones might go over the edge for me into manipulation...

I read some of the input on their boards, and there are some true horror stories about slathering themselves down with the juices before heading out clubbing, to attract a partner. Couldn't they smell themselves before they went out of the house? Pretty funny.

I also put in an order to Surrender to Chance - lots of samples and decants, which I'm really looking forward to, and finally a decant of Jicky. What took me so long to appreciate it? It's great stuff. I'm getting the edp.
I just bought a decant of Guerlain's Attrape Coeur. Cannot wait to put my hands on it.

Luckily, they were sold out of Sweet William when I went to the site! Would have had a mini-splurge relapse!

Lush are discontinuing many of the original fragrances. So bought a 30mls Breath Of God for half price, I do own a 15mls already but the deal was too good to let go.
I finally ordered the Musk tonkin, too, which I have longed for way to long, and tossed in a bottle of Ambre Sultan, plus a backup on gucci Rush just because the price was great. Going to sell off a lot of bottles so I figured its forgivable
Congratilations on all your finds, its a shame the dont sell out fumes the way they do clothes this time of year!
If I ever go to Denmark one day, lol I would need to find that lovely flea market!

Danny, I like that Armani pic, I'd like to see it in black and white as well.

Well, I celebrated Boxing Day late, hehe..instead of having something I would never ever use, I got Briar Rose and Bottega Veneta.
Ok I gave in. Well sort of. I raided the sale at The Body Shop for shower gels in Vanilla, Amber Oud, Satsuma, Mango and Lemon & Thyme. Bargainatious!

I've been wanting a vintage bottle of Vol de Nuit extrait for a long time, and finally got it. It's a 2.5 oz. bottle, apparently 1950s vintage, sealed in box.

Flying back from Japan today, went to the Hermès shop at Narita. Got a gift set of four 15 ml Hermessences: Iris Ukiyoé, Poivre Samarcande, Vanille Gallant, and Santal Massoïa. It turned out to be somewhat cheaper than had I gotten them at the Hermès boutique here. About $130 versus $145 plus tax. The SA quoted me at $123 for the current exchange rate.

Buying vintage VdN always terrifies me R. I have bought vintage VdN in the past that has turned and really couldn't be worn at all...that particular note in the top notes (jonquil?) just smells absolutely horrible when it ages improperly. I hope yours smells wonderful. I happen to be thoroughly enjoying my 'new' VdN parfum that I got last year, so I'm set myself.
