It gives me palpatations just thinking about it, lol, but I'll try to list just 10, they are not in any particular order.
1. Chanel Bois des Iles
2. Ormonde Jayne Frangipani Absolute
3. Chanel 31 Rue Cambon
4. Jo Malone Dark Amber & Ginger Lily
5. By Kilian Back to Black
6. MFK Lumiere Noire pour Femme
7. Guerlain Oriental Brulant
8. Guerlain Apres l'Ondee
9. Hermes Ambre Narguile
10. Serge Lutens Feminite du Bois
These are if I had to pick from what I already own. If you were to pick your ideal 10 then it would be some different, there would be a Malle in there I know that, once I figure out which is my favorite, lol.

Hmmm ... very tough!
1. Angel
2. Ambre Sultan
3. Bandit
4. Dior Addict
5. Chergui
6. Cuir Mauresque
7. Eau des Merveilles
8. Fumerie Turque
9. L'Air du Desert Marocain
10. Sweet Redemption
But oh gosh, these are some heavy hitters! I would also "need" 10 more with a lighter feel.
Notice: listing may change without warning!

Rochas Femme
Montana Parfum de peau
Chanel n°19
Christian Dior Diorella
Christian Dior Diorissimo
Bvlgari Eau parfumée au thé vert
Guerlain Mitsouko
Jean Patou 1000
Chanel Bois des îles
Acqua di Genova Colonia
Funny how I mostly stick to old-time favourites as time goes by. I hope Jean Patou 1000 will still be in production (otherwise Chanel Coco mademoiselle, not that I think they are equivalent !). First time discontinuations are making my life easier...

1. L'Artisan Fleur d'Oranger
2. Creed Fleur de Thé Rose Bulgare
3. C&E Evelyn
4. AG Eau d'Hadrien (earlier version edp)
5. YSL In Love Again
6. Rosine Diabolo Rose
7. JM White Lilac & Rhubarb
8. Coty Muguet des Bois (earlier version; sentimental for me)
9. L'Artisan Jour de Fête
10. Demeter Gingerale
I would hate to have to give up L'Artisan Premier Figuier and Provence Santé Tilleul/Linden, but I realize I don't wear them often.

Ain't that the truth -- and evidence that the fragrance arts are a field of exploration, because our individual preferences are so varied, even within a connoisseurist crowd.
As with most things, we can look for patterns, even though we're extrapolating from a tiny sampling:
4x Caron Tabac Blond
3x Chanel Bois des Iles
3x Guerlain Mitsouko
3x Guerlain Shalimar
2x Guerlain Jicky
2x Guerlain L’Heure Bleue
2x Chanel No. 5
... and, big surprise, there are no celebrity fragrances! (insert sarcastic smiley)
From your list, 30R, I see you prefer a certain sharp or fresh edge to your wardrobe. C Rose loves classy feminine scents. Teardrop appears to like what I think of as "big" fragrances. LadyM is into rich juices. In general, the classics remain popular overall.
We've done these lists every now and then, and I know my top ten change by at least 50% over the time before. The consistency, though, is that I like my fragrances to sweeten me up and mellow me out, and if they’re green, so much the better.
1) CdG Jaisalmer
2) Bond No. 9 Mothers
3) Guerlain With Love
4) Jo Malone with Mint
5) Sabi
6) Parfums de Nicolai Cologne Sologne
7) Trish McEvoy Sexy 9 Blackberry & Vanilla Musk
8) Boucheron
9) Nanadebary Green
10) Jo Malone Black Vetyver Cafe

I've come back to this thread a few times now - I'm finding it quite impossible to list only ten. I think I could do ten for summer and ten for winter, and there would be some overlap of course, but I just can't seem to narrow down my favorite categories - I adore too many chypres, orientals and roses to exclude any of them, but I need some fresh greens and florals in there too. Hmm...
Okay - here goes.
Chanel Coco
Chanel Coromandel
Dior Dune
Guerlain Iris Ganache
Guerlain L'Instant or Dior Addict
Guerlain Chamade
Gucci L'Arte di Gucci
Hermès Rouge
Balmain's original (Germaine Cellier) Vent Vert
and since I'm always happy to buck a trend, Catherine Deneuve's Deneuve. Here's that celebuscent you were lookin' for Q.
There - done!
...but now I must take a page from teardrop's book and include a few runners-up because I just don't know what I'd do without them: K de Krizia, Molyneux Quartz, Malle Portrait of a Lady, Guerlain Shalimar Parfum Initial, Tom Ford Noir de Noir, By Kilian Rose Oud, La Perla, Yves Rocher 8e Jour and Gucci No3. And the original Calvin Klein for women. And No5, of course.
That's better.
Sigh ...I know I'm not fooling anyone, lol. I don't even know why I try ...I like a challenge I guess, and to participate (I just can't resist making a list!) but I knew I couldn't do this one. I suppose I'm just too indecisive when there's absolutely nothing at stake.

I actually cannot decide, but I know these would be in there:
Chanel Bois des Iles
Chanel 31 re Cambon
Chanel Coromandel
Malle Iris Poudre
Dior Homme
Those are my only cannot do without loves to date. I feel incredibly comfortable and myself in all of them, even though they are somewhat different. The rest of the list would probably consist of some easy summer scents and a gourmand.

Yep!
That's why l had to put Eau Prem in the runners-up, because l feel l should really have something "quieter" for work. Thanks for an interesting analysis, Q!

THIS!!!

What the heck -- I'll take a whack at it. I already know my list won't include any of the favorites Quarry compiled. I'm contrary that way.

My goal is to make sure I have at least one fragrance that satisfies each of the very definite seasonal olfactory urges I experience. I would have preferred a list of 15, but I think I've largely got it:
Serge Lutens Ambre Sultan
Serge Lutens Daim Blond
ELdO Divin'Enfant
Givenchy Organza Indecence
LMdlV Vanille Givree des Antilles
Frederic Malle Carnal Flower
Diptyque Tam Dao
Mazzolari Lei
Sonoma Scent Studio Voile de Violette
Serge Lutens Gris Clair

OK, I'm doing this quickly, no backsies (;
•Mollie Parnis, of course!
•Miss Balmain
•Weil Antilope (vintage)
•EL Private collection vintage extrait
•Shalimar
•Oscar de la Renta Volupté
•Nocturnes de Caron
•SL Sarrasins
•Rive Gauche
•Guerlain Chamade
I think about 7 of those would be consistently listed, three less so (not necessarily in the order I posted them)

Well, mine has one celebrity fragrance, although it's a very non-celebrity fragrance sort of celebrity fragrance: Cumming. And I hope to always have a bottle in my wardrobe. I think I wear it at least once a week. I must say I get loads of compliments when I wear it too. I've been told it smells like 'your skin, only better.'

Wow, what a hard question to answer! A year ago I didn't even own 10 scents & my taste just keeps evolving. For now I would have to say:
Lyric Woman
Ubar
Hypnotic Poison
Apree L'Ondee
Bois des Iles
Cuir de Lancome
Ambre 114
Ambre Narguile
L'Eau d'Hiver
Eau de Guerlain
No particular order here. Wonder what our lists will look like next year!!

Not easy, but the practical pure 'wearability' list would probably look like this (if they were all still available):

New York (Nicolai), Granville (Dior), L'Heure Fougueuse (Cartier), Sous le Vent (Guerlain), Eau de Cologne Imperiale (Guerlain), Tiffany for Men, Santal Noble (MPG), Derby (Guerlain), Extrait de Santal Mysore EDT (Crabtree & Evelyn), Patou Pour Homme.
Ubar or Attrape Coeur might well nudge Derby out of the frame

I'm probably just responding to a "who's buried in Grant's tomb?" type joke, but here is the directory listing:

You have a wonderful way of putting things.
You're right, Mike, I missed Cumming, and we've had the addition of Deneuve. Let's just say, there are celebrities and there are celebrities.

Thank You Roses! I thought that was it, though the limited edition threw me.

My list looks like no one's, but everyone's... i.e., different.
I like these lists - they sharpen my awareness of where I am, as opposed to where I've been, fragrance-wise. But that doesn't mean the narrowing down process isn't excruciating:
In no order:
Chanel - No. 19 (vintage is best, but I'm not broken-hearted over the re-formulation)
Nasomatto - Narcotic Venus
Serge Lutens - De Profundis
Serge Lutens - Rose de Nuit
Diptyque - Opone (I'm still mourning its demise - I ran out of my bottle, and am now haunting ebay for a replacement
)
Guerlain - Jicky
Susanne Lange - Vanilla Coconut
Thierry Mugler - Cologne
Penhaligon - Amaranthine (It's not green to anyone else, but it's my new green)
Dolce & Gabanna - Light Blue (I almost feel guilt over this one - it's so light, powdery and airy I feel the need to dismiss it, but I keep coming back to it. It just smells so nice on me)

I look at everyone else's lists and think "I'm not worthy!!", but here goes:
Estee Lauder - Knowing
Stendhal - Noir Divin
Chanel - Coco
Chanel - No 19 Poudre
Bond No 9 - Chinatown
Bal a Versailles
Balmain - Ambergris
Guerlain - Nahema
Hypnotic Poison
Fendi
I might add, I didn't know half of these when I started with Basenotes. Wonder what the list will look like next year.
