A*Men
Dior Homme
Fahrenheit

They are not necessary best, but all have strong and very different personalities and are often used as a benchmark.

Montale Dark Aoud
Creed Aventus (I like the stuff, just HATE the hype)
YSL L'Homme
Mona d'Orio Vetyver
Amouage Tribute

If you're interested in Colognes:

Eau de Cologne Imperiale (Guerlain)
Eau de Cologne du Coq (Guerlain)
Eau de Guerlain
Colonia (Acqua di Parma
Acqua di Colonia (Lorenzo Villoresi)

If you're interested in reasonably contemporary fragrances with a 'classic' sensibility that tend to be worn more by men and would like to avoid the synthetic sugar bombs out there for guys right now:

Invasion Barbare (MDCI) Nu-Fougere
Cuir de Pleine Fleur (Heeley) Floral Leather
Santal Noble (MPG) Woody Oriental
Granville (Dior) Aromatic Green Garrigue
Songe d'un Bois d'Ete (Guerlain) Spiced Woods Leather Oud
Memoir Man (Amouage) Green Woods + Frankincense
French Lover (Malle) Bitter Green

Sorry I got excited and lost count.

If you are interested to know what men can and do wear altho they are not all necessarily marketed to men, and while you're at it, also want to get an idea of the origins of what now passes for commercial fragrances:

Patou Pour Homme - Difficult to describe . . .
Knize Ten - Leather
Jicky (or Mouchoir de Monsieur) (Guerlain) Fougere
Mitsouko (Guerlain) Chypre
Shalimar (Guerlain) Oriental
