Vetiver by Guerlain compared to Givenchy Gentleman

I am interested in both of these fragrances and am wondering if they are too similar to get both. I am going to order some samples, but am wondering if the "educated noses" here would say they overlap. I am talking about the current versions. Thanks.

Not similar, get both (after sampling of course, by which time you will be able to answer this question yourself ).

You may want to sample Givenchy's "Vetyver" as well.

Not similar at all, you may want to try Guerlain's Vetiver Extreme instead if you can. It has better longevity and sillage.

They're very different.

Vetiver is vetiver based and Gentleman is patchouli based.

Try for yourself and see.

One smells like leather and honey with an old school patchouli base. The other is a bright vetiver with a lot of lemon, bergamot, and a background of tobacco, spices, and masculine florals. They are really nothing alike at all. The only thing they share in common is that they both are very woody and distinctly not modern. Both great fragrances, though. If I had to have one, it would be Vetiver by Guerlain.
