Modern Egoiste vs. Vintage Egoiste

I've done a bunch of searches to no avail... so I'll just ask.

Is modern Egoiste fairly similar to vintage Egoiste?
To my nose and in my experience - yes.
Their similarity that's obvious to my nose is the sweet vanilla, amber, and sandalwood dry down. What makes the latest reformulation more modern is that it's not as dense, and it also has brighter citrus and rosewood notes.

Vintage is plush instead of hard, and it smells better.
Very very similar. Dont search to hard for vintage when the current is a wonderful frag and 99.5% the same.

Think of whole milk compared to skim milk... the concentree version is heavy cream...

Perfect way of putting it.

Yes, the vintage is a bit richer, but I like the current version nearly as much. Some have said that the vintage EdT and Cologne Concentree are stronger and more tenacious, but I find them similar in performance to the current one.

If you can't find the vintage at a decent price, I wouldn't get too broken up about it. There are far greater reformulation tragedies out there.

It's a while since I've tried the vintage, but when I got a bottle of the current version last year it matched my memories well enough.
I've never tried the original, but the new one is pretty good.

I found last week the vintage version of L'Egoiste at the same price of the new one. The little parfum shop mixed up both versions.
It's vintage because has no ingredients list on the box.
I'm used to Antaeus , Worth of a blind buy?
Yes, if its in the box.
It's in the box, it's still sealed, and has no bar-code, so we can assume it's before 1998. (=before any reformulation/any IFRA directive/ any ban)

Buy all they have. If you don't like it you can easily sell it on eBay or BN at a profit.

I have to agree with this man. I've sampled and worn both and for the life of me, just cannot find that noticable of a difference.
I've owned both as well, and as others have said, there
is no need to hunt down the vintage, unless it is the Cologne Concentree.
I've never sampled that one, but I think it would be worth searching out.

The vintage is darker, "richer" and behaves more like and Eau de Parfum--it
sits closer to the skin and doesn't project as well as the current Eau de Toillette version.

I prefer the modern EDT to the Vintage version. Your mileage may vary.

I find the vintage a little bit dated, while the modern reformulation, which I prefer, can pass for something that's just been created yesterday.

I agree with Heperd. The vintage and current EDT have slight differences but not wort the extra coin in the end. Now if you are comparing the EDT to the concentree thats a different story and is worth the extra cash.

Interesting discussion, I too found some vintage bottles and bought them all (one is the Concentree) all boxes were sealed except the splash bottle (it was boxed though)

Does the Modern version have the "2nd hand smoke" smell to it? that with the cinnamon makes this thing amazing to me, I am already seeking out substitutes because I want to wear this often, but I hate using the vintage stuff up, would rather save it, swap, or sell.

Also FYI the vintage (maybe because of the splash application) does not seem to last long on my skin, but I do love the fragrance, a LOT

My vintage splash lasts for ages. Try buying an atomiser and decant into that one, that's what I've done

Do you guys find this modern reformulation easy to wear in warmer temperatures? I just got a new bottle and I am curious as to how it will fare in hot weather.

Heh, the guy that sold them to me, actually gave me an atomizer and a funnel to do just that, I just hate to decant this vintage stuff, would rather find a good substitute, if its Sandalwood, second hand smoke, and cinnamon, I feel like I would be in the ballpark to just leave these bottles untouched.

Or for that matter, if the modern reformulation has that second hand smoke in it, then I am comfy buying a bottle of that to use instead.

Not really. I have 'new' juice and it's still dense, sweet, heavy and I cannot imagine wearing it in hot Miami weather. Ick.
