noir de noir vs noir?

how similar are these two? i smelled noir the other day and it smelled damn good. now, i havent been able to smell noir de noir, but from reading reviews of both they sound extremely similar. and its not like the name is the same right? one is half the price of the other, so my other question is, are they similar enough to wear i can purchase the cheaper one and feel like im getting the same scent?

With Noir de Noir I get a dark chocolate rose poured in red wine with hints of patchouli and vanilla, it's good and best worn as a evening scent imo.

With Noir I mainly get a powdery Iris and violet on a bed of peppery geranium and patchouli which gets sweeter in the basenotes with vanilla/amber.

They smell different to my nose and I prefer Noir de Noir as I find Noir generic and unintresting.

Very different fragrances - NdN is more along the 'strong masculine rose' line, in the vein of Black Aoud, 88 et al.

Noir is a more versatile, middle of the road kind of fragrance - the risks it takes are fewer, and ultimately it's less rewarding than the fragrances in the Private Blend collection.

I don't find them similar at all.

so they are totally different then. well ill have to check out noir de noir and the rest of the private blends and see what all the fuss is about.

Yeah, Noir is pleasant enough, and it's good to see mens florals getting a bit more exposure, but it just seems a little light to me. It doesn't help that I don't really like iris in my frags, and am much more a 'heavy rose' fan.

Definitely seek out the Private Blend line - I'm not wild about Tuscan Leather but others seem to love it, Tobacco Vanille is a terrific sweet fragrance, and along with NdN, Neroli Portofino and Italian Cyprus are my favourites from their line.

IMO Noir de Noir is a strong rose with a creamy chocolate vibe. Noir is kind of floral and a slightly powdery rose. Overall NdN is much better.

These are completely different fragrances that share only the word "Noir" in the name. I own both, but I think Noir de Noir is by far the better fragrance.

They are not even close. Noir drys down smelling like M7. I prefer Noir de Noir b/c it has "Noir" in it's name twice, so it's twice as Noir.

Definitely not, they're very different. NdN is one of my favorites from the TF Private Blends. I get a dark woody rose that is actually not unlike Montale Black Oud or Bond NY Oud, just a lot sweeter.

Nothing to do with each other except Tom Ford and Noir. Noir de Noir is for sure the best Tom Ford ever and Noir is ok i guess.

As others have pointed out, these are very different. NdN is an amazing dark rose, while Noir is Iris/Patchouli/Civet. Civet is usually a deal breaker for me, but in this one it's almost ok. Almost.

Pretty much this for me as well, except I don't much like either. Noir de Noir is more interesting, and I'd lean towards that one. Noir has a nice opening, but after a short time smells very strongly of powder, and little else.

First time i smelt Noir i thought it reminded me so much of NdN, which i already own. There's so much disagreement by others about their similarity that i am inclined to believe i was wrong to associate them, but i really thought Noir smelt like NdN.

NdN is the better frag, IMO.

This is a very good description of both but in my case neither was appealing. Noir de Noir is the more intriguing composition of the two, IMO, but it is not really my kind of scent at all and I find it difficult to wear or enjoy. Noir smelled good if not a bit bland on paper, but on skin it is all about the powder and things go south real quick. Neither is worth owning, IMO.

Noir de Noir is the absolute gem out of anything in Tom Ford's line of fragrances.

The only thing I can think of that Noir's got going for it, is that Tom Ford's name is written on the bottle.

Night and day difference.
