RIP: Dear Abby

I've been a fan as far back as I can remember. From her obituary on the front page of today's New York Times, this is the last bit in the obit - a brilliant summation of her wit and wisdom:

Dear Abby: Two men who claim to be father and adopted son just bought an old mansion across the street and fixed it up. We notice a very suspicious mixture of company coming and going at all hours blacks, whites, Orientals, women who look like men and men who look like women. This has always been considered one of the finest sections of San Francisco, and these weirdos are giving it a bad name. How can we improve the neighborhood? Nob Hill Residents

Dear Residents: You could move.

Maybe it's because I don't know her style but the above excerpt is just terrible advice.

Sad news. She was truly and institution and a marvelously imapactful personality. I imagine she touched and affected many many lives.

Sorry to hear that too. A brief search reveals that she was preceded in death by her twin sister in 2002. The sister was none other than advice columnist Ann Landers.

Really sad to have heard about her death. I remember my mother reading her column years ago.
