A nice fragrance to wear as a college student?

I want something that will allow me to smell nice throughout the day, but it can't be too powerful because that would be distracting/annoying to classmates.

Just something that smells wonderful as I walk by or whatever.

What would you suggest?

It would be nice to also not smell like everyone else.

Do you know any fragrances that might fit the bill?

edit:

I don't want to smell like a hot date, but I want to smell masculine and refreshing.

edit again:

I really like the smell of Paco Rabanne's "1 Million," but when I'm walking around campus, I smell a LOT of people who smell like this. It smells great, but I don't want to smell like someone's ex-boyfriend, ya know?

look into a scent called 460 Park by Peter Thomas Roth. You can find it inexpensively on eBay (Like $15-20 shipped). You may not find much info online about it, but take my word when I say it smells IDENTICAL to a scent called Il Du Tulipano by Hilde Soliani which will set you back $180 a bottle. It doesn't scream the way 1 Million does, but it can be smelled when passed by in the hall or on the quad. It will turn heads.

For the money, it's well worth the risk. My wife gets compliments on it endlessly.

My other suggestion is Molecule 01. It's almost a certainty that no one else will smell like you because it has a tendency to smell different on different skin. This one will also cause people to track you down and ask "what are you wearing -- It's amazing!!"??

@ emberfly, Would you like to tell a bit more of yourself, like your style, interests, something... then it would be easier to suggest something to you. Now all we know is that you are possibly male (you want a masculine scent) and possibly young (you are a college student). Imo the fragrance preferences usually match to style and personality.

Penhaligon's Blenheim Bouquet.

I know, funny name but look up the reviews.

Cheers,

Something like Terre de Bois by Miller Harris may be what you are looking for. 50ml bottles are being sold on Overstock.com for about $1 a ml.

Joop Homme - Very, very strong scent. Wear this with 2 sprays and bombard EVERY living creature in that room.
Le Male JPG - Great vanilla, lovely drydown if you ask me.
1 Million - Very succesful, definetly a clubbing scent but the compliments are just...OVER NINE THOUSAND.

Im in the same position as you, college student that is somewhat new to fragrances.
While 1 million is nice I don't think its the right choice for everyday use around campus.
After I did a little testing and researching on BN I picked out Boss Bottled and YSL L'Homme.
IMO these are two great scents for daytime wear and subtle enough that you can wear to class and smell good without overpowering other peoples noses.

as a college student starting out, I would pick something of high value and can last. unless you have a ton of extra cash to spend.

I would recommend you look into Animale Animale for men. Its a unique scent, not over powering, a lot of people say its like a*men without the tart note, I personally never smelled a*men but I like AA a lot. you can wear it anytime after 6pm and everyday in the colder seasons imo. and maybe get something cheap for summer... or something that you can wear all year like Hanae Mori, or Rochas Man.

It sort of depends on what you are looking for. I am a college student and my fragrances range from Terre d'Hermes to Memoir Man. You said fresh, so consider Green Irish Tweed. You can get enough to last you your entire college life for around $125 (4oz), and it is a really, really nice scent that is super versatile.

Outside of that, TdH is a good suggestion on its own. Pretty versatile, but I could not wear it every single day, but that's just me.

Welcome

I like vetivers, fresh, grassy, and long lasting. In addition to the already mentioned one, one example would be lalique Encre Noire (which is relatively cheap). Easier to find, Tom Ford Grey Vetiver.

I've worn Aventus, Pure Malt and Spicebomb to campus so far, haven't received any complaints that I'm aware of so far ^^.

hmm... think about YSL La Nuit Frozen Cologne. Lanvin Avantgarde

none is really 'special', but definitely gets you compliment

I've been wearing Eau des Baux around campus a lot, and people are loving it.

Cool Water & Tommy by Tommy Hilfiger

My girlfriend and her friends love Boss Bottled
Ed Hardy Villain is another one
CK Eternity used to be very popular, but I haven't smelt it around campus recently, so that might be a good choice

If you like 1 Million, you may like YSL Nuit or Armani Code. They are both sweeter like 1 million.

Armani Aqua Di Gio is a refreshing scent and a best seller.

I would not worry about smelling like someone else and buy what you like. You will have time to evolve what you like as you try more scents. Buy a small bottle of 1 million to start.

These two options are perfect. Do not wear anything strong because it's a distraction. I wore a little GIT once from a rollerball and one of my professors walked into the room and immediately started complaining. Another time I was wearing Aventus also from a rollerball and a male student said to the whole class "what the hell is that smell, it smells like piss.

Wow, god, people can be so rude! That's kinda hilarious to read, though. I would definitely like to avoid that

Hi! I am a 19-year-old male. I'm a confident person, but I'm also an introvert. I attend university in a very tropical part of the world--the winter here is about 70 degrees. In fact, it's about 70-80 degrees year-round.

I'm quirky. I'm not very traditional at all. I like to go against the grain and form my own opinions about things. I love nature! I'm very kind and friendly; i'm about as intimidating as a puppy.

because you live in warm place, get YSL LNDH Frozen Cologne

I am a college student too and here is what I get compliments while wearing:

Chanel Allure Homme Sport Eau Extreme
Dior Homme Intense (if you dress well and wear this correctly, compliment city from college chicks. If you don't pull it off it can be a disaster though lol)
YSL La Nuit de L'homme (great for winter days and nights, and cooler spring/summer nights)
Boss Bottled (not as complimented as the above three)

Masculine and refreshing:

Mugler Cologne
Creed Original Vetiver
Tommy
Creed Millesime Imperial
Tom Ford Neroli Portofino (maybe not "masculine" enough).

And none of these is too powerful.

Thank you so much, everyone who has left a comment!

Boss Bottled and YSL's L'Homme have both been named quite a bit (4 and 3 times, respectively).

I'm so glad because I think they both suit me very well. I think I found what I was looking for I like that they are sweet smelling and non-offensive, and I love that they have a weak sillage; that's exactly what I was looking for.

I particularly like the way one reviewer worded Boss Bottled, "If you're looking for something that everyone in your office will know what you're wearing when you pull into the parking lot, then this isn't your fragrance. If, on the other hand, you want it to be noticeable when you sit down by the people beside you, then this is your fragrance."

A lot of great ideas for you here.

Considering the warm climate, and wanting to be different, might I suggest Un Jrdin En Mediterranee? It has a natural smell that sings in the sun. An earthy fig wood scent with ripe fruit.

For low key, boss no6 and l'homme are good.
Bleu de chanel is a manly citrus
TdH is a unique head turner.
GIT is great all year frag, too.

Frederic Malle - French lover, Geranium pour monsieur or Vetiver extraordinaire
Chanel - Platinum Egoiste, Allure homme sport (or eau de extreme version of it)
Tom Ford - Grey Vetiver or Neroli Portofino
Creed - Aventus, GIT, MI, VIW
Lorenzo Villoresi - Uomo, Piper Nigrum
YSL - L'homme or La nuit

Hope you find what you are searching for!

If you like green/vetiver try Encre Noire (more dark) or Tom Ford Grey Vetiver. Alternatively, Spicebomb is recommended.
