I am looking for that finishing piece in my wardrobe.

So far in my fragrance journey, I find myself having smelled a good amout of fragrances, designer mostly, and have purchased a lot of the mega sellers. I think I have a fairly well rounded wardrobe, but there is always room for simplifying and there is one I am missing. A professional smelling scent, or a black tie event scent is what I think I am missing, maybe you guys could help me out with an occasion suggestion to help me out. I always love receiving adivce from the BN community that has much more experience than I do. Keep in mind I am a 21 year old university student. My current collection is as follows.

- 1 million (my girlfriend's absolute favorite)
- PE 360 Red
- Acqua di Gio
- Adidas Moves
- Animale Animale
- Angel Men
- Boss Bottled
- Burberry London (on my selling list)
- Cool Water
- Cuba Gold
- Cuba Red
- Ferrari Black
- Rocky Mountain Wood
- L'eau D'issey
- La Nuit de L'homme
- Le Male
- Nautica Voyage

I have to admist that I have somehow avoided the unique and more daring scents, as I try to have most of the scents I wear be appealing to those around me. Also, I have to admist that a lot of my fragrances are cheapies, really cheap cheapies. I have a small sample vial of Encre Noire, but find it difficult to wear apart from special occasions. Just looking for a few suggestions, and as always, thanks in advance.

Terre d'Hermes for sure. M7 for sure and don't worry about finding a first formulae. The second one is just fine. Hanae Mori is great too and can be found very cheaply. Rochas Man too is great and also can be had for a song. Nothing wrong with Dirty English either.

Noble Vetiver or Noble Cedar both by Chopard.

Definitely a formal evening perfume.

stay away from terre d'hermes is sucks if your 21. im 21 and i wreaked of old man. i would stay away from terre d'hermes until youre like 40.

you should get LIDGE. Its a good frag and chicks dig it. very sophisticated and its ok for 21 year olds. another good frag would be allure homme sport,,, either edition blanche or the regular one... i prefer the regular one as it lasts longer..

Wha? It's one of the most versatile scents you can buy.

Anyway, seeing as I'm on a bit of a high with this at the moment, and seeing as you should get it before all the original bottles disappear, I'm going to say YSL Rive Gauche pour Homme. Very professional, classy fougere. Not a single occasion it's unsuitable for.

Chanel Égoïste! I am a university student (24), and have been wearing it for years Girls usually LOVE it, according to my experiences.

Dior Homme (Intense), also +1 regarding Dirty English.

If Terre d'Hermes, suggested above, strikes you as too mature or too expensive, consider one of the following scents for the formal-occasions piece of your wordrobe:

- Ungaro III
- Santos de Cartier
- Boucheron Jaipur Homme
- Puig Quorum Silver

That's a pretty respectable collection, but it's true there are so many good smells out there that it can be hard to stop.

You've gotten some very good suggestions already, but I'd like to suggest that you step up a bit. Most of your fragrances are reasonably priced nice ones. A bunch of reasonably priced ones costs the same as a few pricy niche ones, so your wallet will be affected either way. You're looking for a formal, professional fragrance to stand above the others in a way, so why not get something a bit less common and a bit more artisanal? This will open floodgates to a zillion more suggestions, I know, but I sense that you won't regret it.

My suggestion is Diptyque L'Ombre Dans l'Eau. It's nicely balanced, slightly herbal green, but not cheap or overbearing. And classic, not dated or old smelling.

Creed Himalaya. It can be found for cheap from Amazon.

Although I doubt you'd ever consider your collection complete, for more formal settongs and depending on what you think you can afford:
Burberry Brit
Bulgari Soir
Chanel Antaeus
C&S No. 88

Well, King James , your location says Omaha, and based on the Basenotes Shopping Guide to Omaha, you've got Sephora and Dillards. Going off of those options, you could give a sniff to:

Bulgari Pour Homme Soir
John Varvatos (the original)
Polo Double Black
Tom Ford Extreme

Those are four pretty different scents, but each has a "black tie" kind of feel to them.

If you want to do something like FragranceNet online, then +1 to YSL Rive Gauche pour homme.

Good luck!

Couldn't agree more about Bulgari Pour Homme Soir as a way to class up your wardrobe.

I'm a college student as well, and looking at your list, might I suggest a few from both designer and niche.

For a professional scent, opt for something fresh and universally appealing. Chanel's Allure Sport and Diptyque's Philosykos are what come to mind.

Wearing a dinner jacket calls for something either classic or mildly oriental. Cartier Declaration, Armani Code, and Penhaligon's Blenheim Bouquet are all great choices.

When you said old man I thought you meant like 65. Looks like I am over the hill. Thanks, buddy.

I saw it for around $100 on amazon after your comment, but after a few non-fragrance-related purchases, I absolutely hate amazon. Poor quality control, and questionable authenticity.

I'd second Cartier Declaration and/or Armani Code.

TdH
Maybe a spicy oriental? Opium PH or Penhaligon's LP9 are good choices for that genre.
How about Tom Ford Extreme?

I suggest going to Sephora and trying Viktor and Rolf Spicebomb. Unique Framework without being confrontational.

Tried it at von maur a couple days ago. It is pretty interesting. As it has just been released, the prices for it are outrageous. They want over $100 for the 100ml bottle. It is a good fragrance, but for that price, PASS!

Good Point...Mugler Cologne...for under 50.

You can get it for a better price at FragranceNet. With a 20% off coupon it's $75.03 (tax might apply though; I'm in NY and my total was $81.69 with tax). Really enjoying it.

Armani Code
Terre d'Hermes (I prefer the Parfum version)
Rochas Man
Pure Malt
Pure Havane
And as others have mentioned, Bvlgari Pour Homme Soir.
Fahrenheit
Sung Homme
M7 Fresh
Michael for Men
Some great suggestions so far. But I think what you need is Guerlain's Heritage. Decent price online, you can class it up or wear it with jeans and a t shirt. I just graduated from college in December and this was the biggest compliment getter when I wore it to class. You will not be disappointed.

Damn. I wish i could have gotten my nose on pure malt and pure havane before they became so expensive and difficult to find. I simply love the original angel men. And i need to check out the bvlgari line some more (pour homme, blv, pour homme soir).
