Does Halston Z-14 give you the cinnamon vibe like Egoiste?

So I finally bought a cheap bottle of Z-14 from Marshall and I'm trying it out tonight... I just sprayed it on about 5 minutes ago, and I'm getting that cinnamon vibe like egoiste.... it's a bit more synthetic than egoiste, but smells very similar... let's see where the dry down takes this fragrance?

I have only tried (and own) the superb vintage version of Z-14 but while I definitely get plenty of cinnamon for sure (albeit it does not smell synthetic at all to my nose), I don't get much similarity to Egöiste.

I personally do not think of Z-14 as a cinnamon prominent scent.

I guess it's just the initial blast that I get the cinnamon? It's somewhat cinnamon now, but more spicy, woody and chypre now... I smell very 1980's now and loving it!

I can totally picture David Hasselhoff rocking Halston Z-14 in his Trans-Am on Night Riders back in the 1980's!

The contemporary bottle of Z-14 that I have definitely has a notable cinnamon note once the top notes begin to fade.

That seems to be the consensus on the new version without oakmoss, but I doubt if any fans of Egoiste are going to rush out and buy the new Z-14 thinking that it would be a reasonable substitute. Otherwise, there are other scents with strong cinnamon, but the thing about Z-14 is that the lavender note is too strong and "cheap" smelling to me, at least the last couple times I wore it. My version has oakmoss but is made by EA and not Halston.

Post-2011 (no oakmoss) Z-14 is a truly tragic reformulation. It is indeed all about harsh, cheap cinnamon. Like a bitter Big Red gum. Very synthetic and linear too.

Pre-2011 is a lovely woody-musk with a nice spicy streak of cinnamon, but certainly not dominant. The difference is night and day -- they don't even seem closely related to my nose.

How do I know if mine is pre or post 2011?

Check the ingredients on the back of the box: vintage list "oakmoss"; the new stuff says "tree moss".

Incidentally, I noticed the other day that Z-14 reminds me of Burberry London in the drydown.

Aramis JHL has a great cinnamon note BTW.

Yeah, the reformulation really diminished Z-14. The version with oakmoss is excellent, and one of the best cheapies out there. The more recent stuff without it isn't worth owning.

ETA: I haven't noticed any similarity to Egoiste, they seem quite different to me.

Not at all.

EgoEAST and Z-14 are both egotists with Firebirds and spice. Reminds me of a disco dance off with 2 loud guys doing Travolta moves with slightly different suits.
