Suspending Sniff 'n' Speak Saturdays

Thread Starter
Given Basenotes' recent/recurring connection issues and the leveling off of participation in SotD threads, I'm going to cease dedicating a thread to SnS. Once upon a time, the theme subjects were discussed in depth, and we challenged ourselves to try new scents. These threads have become good reference resources, so, I'll blog the material seen below, in case anyone wants to again finds those links.

Thank you for contributing to the fun and knowledge, BNers.

See you in the regular SotD and especially on Synchronization Fridays. ~ Quarry Joy

For newcomers, here's the lowdown on this monthly online event:
Every member, any gender, novice or veteran sniffer, is invited to apply a fragrance related to the theme of the month (listed below) and share your thoughts on the first Saturday of the month. This isn't a mandatory assignment; it's just for fun. Because not everyone logs in on weekends, you're encouraged to continue to add comments within this themed thread on subsequent days. If you don't join us for this month's discussion, please look ahead at the tentative lineup and join in at a later date.
JANUARY ~ Oriental
(warmth, flowers, spices, woods & vanilla)
FEBRUARY ~ Animalic
(civet-, castoreum-, leather-, or musk-influenced scents)

MARCH ~ Chypre
(used to be defined by oakmoss presence, but ...?)
APRIL ~ Floral
(single solifore or full bouquet of flowers)
MAY~ Fruity
(single sweet fruits or a bowl of fruity-florals)
JUNE ~ Citrus
(hesperidic: bergamot, lemon, orange, grapefruit, tangerine, etc.)
JULY ~ Green
(fresh leaves & grasses)
AUGUST ~ Fresh or aquatic
(cool, dewy notes and seaside scents)
SEPTEMBER ~ Opposite-Gender Fragrance
OCTOBER ~ Ambery
(dark, light or blond amber as feature note)
NOVEMBER ~ Spicy
(warm notes associated with cooking)
DECEMBER ~ Gourmand
(fragrances with a foody note, but not usually fruity--save for May)
Looking for suggestions?

Sad ... I have always enjoyed our SnS days, even if I haven't participated in every one. I guess all good things must come to an end.

Quarry, those were great fun. Thank you so much for those. You deserve an award.

Hi, Quarry, and what of blind sniffs? I have a concept, and the fragrances (need to restock my decanting supplies).

I have to be honest, I totally forget about it!!!!! I do the Friday group usually, and then by the time I sign in on Saturdays I have already picked and wearing my fragrance for that day. Suddenly notice oh The Monthly Sniff.

I have somehow managed to miss the SnS thread - have gone back and read some now. Would have liked to participate, and will do so if there is another thread of this kind in the future.

I hold my hand up guiltily to the blind sniff thing. I hit a life wall at the point I was meant to be co-host in November and let the side down a bit there. OOps and sorry. Nothing that cannot be mended however.

I very much enjoyed participating in the SnS threads. Thank you, Quarry, they were great fun.

MsQ -- everything evolves, I realize that. Thanks for keeping them threads organized and clickable.

Re: Blind Sniffs -- Warum who was moderating them in 2012, checked in last back in November. I spoke with her on the phone once, she was doing all right at a time. As much as I love the idea, I sometimes feel that we need something different too: some Blind Sniffs were lacking in participation and if only you knew how hard it was to recruit the sniffers! If there is more interest, I would like to know if somebody would want to moderate them in 2013. Please PM me. Please also let us know if there is anything you would do diferently if you were to organize them again.

In closing, please let me mention that group activities are fun, be it a pass or a sync. Or a game of sorts. I personally enjoy all of them.

Twolf, 'tis true, blind sniffs are both time consuming and hard to co-ordinate, as both sniffers and the hosts need to be available. I really enjoyed the one I particpated in. That said, I've noticed that more and more, people are preparing or participating in sample passes. They are great fun with little fuss. I had a blind sniff all but ready to go, and I think I'll just do it as a sample pass instead.

I really, really loved the blind sniffs, but time wise, they are fairly incompatible with family life for at least three days at a time.
I'm sure a version could be worked out that was slightly less stressful. I had some ideas up my sleeve too, but I couldn't mod them efficiently with all my current family and relly commitments.
I do love online fraggy games though. I shall try and think of some.
