Borneo, hands down.

Borneo

Borneo.

I love Black Orchid. I can't even imagine what it would be like to have a date with a woman who wears it... but on me, it didn't work. I have no problem with scents marketed to women or sold as unisex... and I'm a huge Tom Ford fan... but when I wore Black Orchid, all I could think was "This smells like a woman I'd want. It doesn't smell like me." YMMV, naturally.

I do not find any similarity between Borneo and B.O. Borneo would be more in the line of Angel by Thierry Mugler. To me B.O is very feminine and teen-esque and this comes from a guy who wears FlowerBomb. I would choose Borneo over B.O. anyday

I find them very different. B1834 is very earthy, rustic, dense, dusty, resinous and mineral enhanced with a huge patchouli bush sitting in top and finally dusted it's the earliest cocoa (not gourmand chocolate).

Black Orchid is a flower bomb. Tenacious And unrelenting mass of floral.

While the Tom Ford is "OK", it can be quite cloying if more than one spray is used, so I voted for Borneo.

Borneo by far for me

SL hands down

I love masculine florals, but Borneo 1834 easily wins this shootout.

I blind bought Black Orchid about 6 months ago. One of my few blind purchases that I regret.

am i the only one who will leave the house with atleast 6 sprays on my body? (club or decent bar environment)

...Borneo 1834; my favorite Serge Lutens scent so far...!
They are nothing alike. I voted for Borneo.

Borneo! No contest.

Serge Lutens Borneo 1834.
I love both (I personally find them VERY different). If I was forced to choose one, it would be Borneo 1834.

Apples and oranges IMO. If i had to pick though, it would definitely be Borneo.

I couldn't have said it any better myself! Borneo.

Borneo here too. I like Black Orchid, but it nearly killed me once when I sprayed it on a wrist at the Duty Free before a flight from France to the UK (and let me just take this opportunity to apologize to my fellow passengers).

And Borneo isn't anything like Angel, except that both have patchouli. It isn't anything like Black Orchid either.

What I wonder is, do these polls make any difference? Francolino, would our votes actually influence whether you buy one thing or the other? I'd love to know which YOU prefer.

I love them both, maybe Borneo a little more!

Borneo. Black Orchid reminds me of the monstrous plant in 'Little Shop of Horrors'.
Black Orchid and Borneo similar!!?? Really? They have a bitter patchouli note but the BO is sweeter, with the Borneo more medicinal and bright green. The patchouli fades a little in the BO but the borneo keeps on going. They also both have cocoa notes that disappear quite early on.

Other than that, completely different scents, I feel.

Black Orchid for me, definitely.

I also do not get any similarity... Love both but Borneo is more "artistic" IMO

Borneo 1834. One of my favorites from SL.

what he says....Borneo all the way.

Borneo doesn't work with my skin. It's gone in thirty minutes. I prefer coromandel or patchouli nuit (il Profumo) when I want patchouli.
I love black orchid and its works very well while being very unique

Borneo 1834 hands down...
Where can you get Borneo 1834 in the UK?
I voted Borneo as well, and like others don't see the similarity. I find Black Orchid cloying. If we were talking about Black Violet, it would be more of a contest, although that's not similar to Borneo either.
I think they're both good scents, but I find Black Orchid more "interesting" than wearable and worth owning. Borneo, on the other hand, is cheaper (I think), and just beautiful. It's Lutens at his best.

I love Borneo, but why is it that most of my favorite SLs are no longer being officially sold in the US ?

Grrrrr...

Borneo hands down!

It is unavailable in the UK. I've been wanting to smell it for years.

I have Black Orchid but rarely wear it as it does not seem to fit any social occasions.
I will have to get ir from the US then I guess.
Again - I don't see these as even remotely similar - patchouli and cocoa vs huge sweet floral.

I actually like Black Orchid more, but can't really wear it myself (prefer it on a woman). I would therefore go with Borneo.

But really I'd suggest sampling them both some more before you make the choice if you have experienced them as being similar. They are so different imo that you want to choose which type of scent you prefer rather than choosing between two similar scents.
don't find similar between the 2

prefer Borneo over BO
